The time has finally come! RNG manipulation is possible on retail hardware in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and I'm thrilled to show you all my first video on it.

Admiral Fish is a legend. Hard to imagine where the RNG community would be without them and everyone else who contributes. I cannot fathom how much hard work ALL of these people put into making these programs and guides, but they have made Pokemon so much more fun and enjoyable! Pretty huge that this was developed for retail. IF there are shiny starters in Arceus, itd be interesting to see if RNG can be exploited there too (Samurotts my favorite mon since Black was my first game ever, so a shiny Oshawott would be huge)

I did an RNG manipulated mudkip in emerald a couple years back and I'm glad this is still a thing you can do pretty easily (reletively) with enough will and determination.

I love the value a shiny has when I work my ass off for it, but it is impressive to see a deep dive into the game to exploit the most hellish hobby to exist

This did take 12+ hours of focus and attention, watching blinks, planning attempts, juggling programs etc.. Not the 200+ hours of resetting I know some people had to do for shiny starter, but much more involved mentally. I love my RNG shinies even more than my random ones haha

@@neurophilosophers994 PokeFinder has a Mac version, but I don't have or use a Mac myself so I don't know the exact method for getting everything to work. If you're somewhat tech savvy you should be able to get it working, otherwise you might need help from the community. You can join my discord, or go to www.pokemonrng.com and join that discord. Thanks for the video! After over 140 hours of soft resetting, I decided to give this a try and it only took about eight full attempts to figure out the timing, plus a couple of false starts where I nudged the controller and did an early A press. Glad to finally have my shiny Piplup, and just in time to still pick up the Mystery Gifts! For anyone else considering doing this but worried about not having a capture card, using a propped up phone as a webcam using DroidCam or some other software works perfectly, you just have to mess with the threshold value a little bit when it comes to detecting blinks due to the lower quality of the image. I've always found RNG manipulation kinda poetic, it is like going through the entire timeline of the game and take it in our hands, like gods. I used to abuse RNG in third, fourth, fifth and seventh gen, it is mindblowing the fact we can still do this in 2021

Two years late but played bdsp til the end multiple times. Saw a shiny magikarp on sp first play through. Didn’t know what I had. Ff I’ve been doing a week of briefcase sim wanting a chimchar shiny. I remember way back in DPPt all you need is your TID, SID and the in-game poketch flip coin app and RNG reporter. You just need to find your seed with the coin flips and (in my case) hatch shinies with specific nature, hidden power type or perfect IVs. My first successful hatch of this method is a shiny spiritomb on pokemon diamond nintendo DS.

Hey y’all. Just throwing this out there, but if you need to advance the rng a crazy amount, if you stand just north of your rivals house and your character is obscured by the roof, you advance approximately 20k a minute. Really helped me lock into a female jolly chimchar sitting at over 1 million advances.

I have soft resetted since launch, here and there, and have gotten 6 shiny starters 3 shiny starlys. I would reset my TID every 100-300 resets and would get my shiny within 50 SRs of all files. I thought the games coding was bugged like Gen 3 but this is nice to see it’s not…also nicer now that I can use this :) (although I do enjoy the satisfaction of SR when it comes to fruition) :D

Thank you so much for sharing this! I decided at the announcement of BDSP that I would get a shiny Piplup at the start to honour my first Pokémon ever. Got the game early January, and was getting nervous about missing the time-sensitive Mystery Gifts, so I found this yesterday and, after spending a couple hours testing it successfully on a second save with a Turtwig, I had my shiny Piplup by end of day! I can finally enjoy the game! This method is super interesting. I think it's so cool that this kind of things is possible, and people are putting together accessible tools to allow others to get into it! This method of shiny hunting is way more up my alley than just trying to brute force RNG because it requires some level of active engagement, it feels like there's some level of skill involved even if small.

Hello Papa Jefé, yesterday I saw your 3 videos on how to get Palkia, Arceus and the starter. And I tell you that I just got piplup on the fifth try, some comments that may be useful to other people: 1.- This is real, I was also very skeptical at the beginning but it works! 2.- I am using an old computer for this with an ElGato video capture device, with an integrated graphics card. 3.- the eye sensor may fail due to the weather; With a daytime photo it was difficult to recognize it at night and vice versa. 4.- Use between 0.65 and 0.9 for image recognition, 0.9 is for when you use the photo of the same weather. 5.- Once the recognition works, it is very likely that it will fail at the first opportunity, so I recommend that you identify the ID of the pokemon obtained, just as it does in the video. 6.- Once identified, they will know what the excess or deficit of frames is. This will help you a lot, since depending on the speed of your computer, the subtraction value (63 and 62 in the video) will change! I had to subtract 68 to get closer to the target. Leave the timeline fixed. Greetings Papa Jefé, you are god. PS: I'm a programmer too so it wasn't that complicated for me.

Holy shit dude I actually did it I don't believe it; I had an even target number and my current advance was odd during the Barry step, so I already lost hope on that run. I started the birds 1 advance before target, because of how it increased by 2, and I opened the ball and chose the pokemon 1 advance before target as well. I don't believe it. Hey Jefé thanks for the tutorial! One question though: are you getting your seed in the room to give yourself the possibility of advancing faster in case of late frame target? @ ahw, yea, I can imagine a lot of people might see RNG manipulation as cheating in the shiny hunting community, but I think you absolutely deserve your shiny, you worked really hard for it, arguably harder than I did since all I had to do was mash buttons and wait lol. Game Freak doesn't typically repeat events, so it would need to either be a glitch, or require Custom Firmware.

I don't get one thing... you said it's not necessary to do all that inital set up with munchlax for the shiny starter, so I suppose we could also start from Berry; should I go for Monitor Blink on Berry's eye or else still go for Reidentify even if I don't have the initial value for the seed? When I try it, for some reason Player Blink isn't registering every blink from Munchlax? Like, the little box is flashing showing that a blink is happening, but they don't all increase the interval.

Is there a way to create advances when you're at Barry near the Lake. Say for example I just found out the closest Shiny I have is 55 minutes away. Since we don't have access to the pokedex is it not possible yet?

Unfortunately you cannot, once the cutscene starts you're stuck. However since making this video I have made one improvement to the process. First you need to play the intro up until you leave Barry's house, and then go back to your room and save BEFORE picking Barry up to follow you. This makes it so you can go from your bedroom, directly out of town, pickup Barry, and head to the lake. What this allows you to do, is scout your shiny frame beforehand. So, you check your nearest shiny frame from your bedroom and then instead of going straight into the lake, you can wait at the entrance to advance a lot closer. The annoying part is that you need to calculate how many extra advances happen per second while you're waiting at the entrance. So you need to do a couple runs and just record some data. 1st you need to go straight from bedroom to lake, and then immediately re-identify off Barry's eye. This gives you the minimum acceptable shiny advance. I think it's around 4000-5000, but I would definitely confirm as it's been a while. 2nd you need to do the same thing, but wait for 10 seconds before entering the lake. Once you re-identify this time, subtract the advance you land on, from your minimum. Then divide by 10. This is how many extra "advances per second" you can skip by waiting at the lake door. Is it still possible to use this to find your TID/SID at ANY point in the game? Or is it only possible to find out TID/SID at the beginning?
