This video I discuss Guard Retention and Proper Body Positioning. When you have no grips and defend off of your back I prefer to have a tight crunch position as it reduces the elbow knee space gap for your opponent to pass into, but one common problem people have is this leads to being exposed to stacks so it’s important to learn to defend both of these passes which for me usually turns into alternating how I position my body based off of what kind of pressure my opponent is putting on me.

Awesome stuff giving me more confidence in my game, was a bit doubtful about when to ball up and when to keep hip heavy on mat, thanks!

Fantastic details, balling up, foot movement and quickly transitioning to flat back and shoulder walking constantly gets missed. Thanks so much!

Great content! I was wondering how you address the leg drag and does the response vary from different positions? For example, defending the leg drag from DLR, SLX, etc., or after the fact? Thanks!

You said you started playing only closed guard . We saw alot of closed guard during worlds this year; why is that? Do you think many schools overlook closed guard? Is there a level of proficiency in closed guard you demand that your white belts reach before you promote them? maybe some concepts, details of how to break down opponents posture, setting up attacks from closed guard?

grigelkotten I will definitely do a video soon on how I go about breaking down the closed guard position and how to build your attack sequences.

I'm watching Lucas lepris sit up DVD and saw your quick breakdown of your whole sit up guard game. You think it's generally a strong guard to get into? I like DLR a lot so i figured it makes sense to learn sit up well also

paint spot In my opinion the sit up guard series is the strongest sweep position in jiu Jitsu, so yeah I think it’s incredibly powerful to learn. Even Leandro switched his dlr game up a lot to start using it.
