Honestly, I do truly like the way they've been written. Such an interesting, yet not entirely over the top species. They, as well as the Zabraks and Pantorans, are among the few races I believe the Empire should've had more respect for, Humanocentric or not. (Especially since the Chiss and Pantorans are just human subspecies)

A lot of Chiss content has been retconned by the new, canon trilogies by Timothy Zahn (which is just as well, as many details in Legends weren't established by him to begin with, like the 'maturity at 10 years old' thing). I would like to see a comparison between the two versions, which details from Legends we can keep, and which should be disregarded in light of the new info. After all, Zahn's writing is pretty much Word of God as far as the Chiss are concerned.

I'm not entirely clear what the source is for "reaching maturity at the age of 10". I know Jag Fel mentions to Jaina Solo at one point in the NJO that the Chiss don't have an adolescent period, and later refers to himself as a "slow-maturing child of aliens" by Chiss standards (not sure offhand if that one was his internal monologue or a discussion with his father about how the Chiss saw him, I'd have to check Dark Journey) , so maybe it was inferred from those conversations.

@@ZoeMalDoran I think that was the case, but there's a big difference between being *physically* an adult at 10 and being expected to take on more "adult" responsibilities at a younger age, which I think is what Jag was actually referring to. He was very young to be in the position he was in, but that's par for the course in SW. Either way, Timothy Zahn confirmed that Chiss are still very much children at age 10 with the girls of the sky-walker program in his new canon books, so it's a moot point.

I'm not convinced that the Empire of the Hand was only created as a buffer zone against the Vong in particular. They were the main danger from outside of course, but not the only one. There were the Ssi Rukh, the Nagai, the Killiks etc etc.

I think the Empire of the Hand was probably created as a watchdog for the Chiss Ascendancy. If there's a threat, they'll strike first since they aren't beholden to the Chiss's policy of no pre-emptive strikes.

I feel that the lore for the Chiss is one of the few things that’s actually become better since Disney took over. The Ascendency Trilogy did a really good job of flushing out the lore of the Chiss & how it operated

I’ve been learning about Chiss lore and they’ve become one of the few races that I call my favorite. I’m hoping that Disney will look into this untapped opportunity (unlikely but it’s good to have an optimism) considering the chiss have a little amount of lore. I’ve also imagined how the uniforms of the Navy for the Chiss are extremely ornate to the point where the lowest ranking members have a uniform that is ornate to a small degree. Same thing with the Ground forces but a tad less ornate but still practical in a way. Kind of like uniforms the late 19th Century.

Good video, however there is a lot that needs to be updated. I recommend reading the "thrawn ascendency" trilogy. It clarifies the names of houses such as "nurodo" which is actually house "mith" meaning of the name "odo" as well. There is also a very strong suggestion that the ascendency has much more than just 29 worlds. Some of the names of planets in the book are not on the map shown. But that could just be a name change like with house "nurodo" to "mith".

Why ignore and override the six latest Thrawn novels, all written by Thrawn’s creator, and featuring a much more layered, nuanced and interesting version of both Thrawn and the Chiss Ascendency? Well, in their case; both being colonists and the global ice-age would tend to lead to the sociological solutions they employed, such as focusing their economics on labor, instead of finances for instance- which actually is a whole lot more logical: as labor makes money, not the reverse, yet money *buys* labor, as it is a measuring of productivity of labor.

What I was getting at is the quantity of genes in the genome would be the *exact same* between the two groups; so biologically they'd be fully human, due to them being descended from human settlers- and that less-than-30,000 years is not nearly long enough to make another species, even if DNA would allow it with the different numbers of genes in the genome of different species to begin with... hence they'd have to be the *same exact species* as regular baseline humans.

The Chiss are starting to remind me of China. Qing Dynasty China. -Saw itself as the center of the civilized world and surrounded by barbarians -Isolationist to the point it's harmful... If the Chiss had broken away from their isolationism, they could have gotten much more powerful and advanced technology like weapons, droids, and shielding. If the Qing Dynasty had broken away from their own isolationism, they would have gotten advanced firearms and wouldn't have became the last Dynasty of China.
