Given how well-adapted the nautolans are s a species BEFORE technology became prevalent to the sea at such baffling depths (a vanilla human in that environment would probably get crushed from the pressure alone), i'm actually more curious about how they can still function so well on land.

Haha..apparently many of my questions would be answered if I'd waited 30-ish seconds. It's odd that they don't have webbing between their fingers or toes...and it's also contrary to the accepted theory of evolution as well as survival of the fittest they haven't developed dorsal fins or a tail. Especially since as you stated they've been living at great depth for..eons was it? From our own indigenous examples( i.e. whales and porpoise and many other examples sea cows, sea lions etc which all were at one point terrestrial animals that evolved from forms very similar to Wolves, hippo ...amongst many others and who now only have vestigial legs and hips hidden under the skin. Then there's the questions..why do they have eyes? At depth it's devoid of any star light. What about their size ? Should it be far smaller due to the pressure..or far larger like deep water gigantism ? Well then I wonder if they look like skin covered skeletons in the deep or do they expand into a lump of gelatinous goo like the blobfish ? Yes that's a real thing with really disturbing images online. Most likely I'm over-thinking rather than accepting and enjoying...like the space battles seem set in our pree space race days when we believed that the cosmos was floating in Luminiferous aether or ether.
