"They're coaching them well" is a big reason for the Guardindians' 2024 success (GO Steven Vogt!), despite the incidental irony that the 3b coach wanted Ramirez to stop there. Kudos to Jose Ramirez, who might know the game, and his own abilities, better than many coaches. Useful video of the Pale Hose getting schooled once again.

Why are the Gaurdians playing an Arizona Complex league team?
@Mitten4371Ай бұрын
Yea also as a base runner you are taught before you take your lead off of any base to look at the defense in where they are playing. Because usually what teams do is if there is a right handed hitter at the plate well usually the defense will play to pull. So typically the second baseman will play closer to second base which means normally he is covering second base. But you have to know that as a base runner before you take your lead because you don't want to get a big lead and get picked off. Because usually that will kill any momentum that the offense might try to put together. But with two outs you are usually running on contact anyway as soon as the pitcher goes home and the hitter makes contact
@AlbertEdwards-q9mАй бұрын
Also, the shortstop did not quickly cover third, so the third basement couldn’t even check the runner back at third base 3:17
@AntonelliBaseballАй бұрын
I don’t think there is anyway to check the runner on this play. You either try to make the play to 1B or you eat the ball and it’s 1st and 3rd
@Tryp-j9dАй бұрын
Like he had TIME?? He BARELY(NOT!) got the out at FIRST!!!
@nichodemus10Ай бұрын
The fake throw to first likely hangs up the runner at third. But I am not sure you can just concede the out at first for the hope to get the guy at third, particularly when the base coach is stopping him. I have seen I a bunch of times, but I think that I because it is a highlight every time and not because it happens frequently. I do wonder the coaching perspective on if your high-school or college player tries it.
@FadkinsDietАй бұрын
He couldn't have got him out, but the ss being there might have given the third base coach some doubt

@bigz0725Ай бұрын
The pitcher didn't back up home, either. So if 1B did decide to throw home, and if the pressure of the play makes 1B's throw wild, the batter-runner could take 2nd. As a Royals fan, there's a special place in my heart for putting pressure on 1B to make a throw home.
@rjstegbauerАй бұрын
I like the full field view, except I can't see the ball. Maybe highlight it like they did for the hockey puck?
@geraldponce8336Ай бұрын
That was a really big heads up high IQ play. Not sure there is anything the defense could have done about it other than make the play at first. My question would be why was he playing so far back? Eating it was not an option. My other question would be does the run count from third if the runner is thrown out because if you look at the video the runner from third was crossing home plate as the third baseman was making the throw. I'm really surprised it was as close as it was because the third baseman ran a good 45' before he even got the ball. My overall thought was that the third baseman was playing a step or two too deep. But back to the secondary lead. Secondary leads are great. Just don't get caught napping and get back doored. Most pitchers are focused on the lead runner. 2 outs, 3-2 count, trailing runner, infielders playing back. Like the perfect time to be slightly more aggressive. I want to say as a pitcher. I would look the runners back a little if possible. These new time limits really put a damper on that part of the game. Forgot how long you have and how many times you can throw over. Me personally I don't like it. It has really given the advantage to the runners.
@geraldponce8336Ай бұрын
Of course the antidote to the new time limits as a pitcher would be just to work a fast pace and throw all strikes. Just constantly have the hitters in the hole and on their heels. It sort of works both ways. Hitters naturally want to slow things down when they are behind in the count. And of course pitchers want to slow things down with runners on deep in a count. Just don't go there as a pitcher. Time limits means throw lots of strikes and make the hitters hit. Speed things up. I'm not a fan of time limits. It doesn't give players a lot of time to think in a thinking game.
@geraldponce8336Ай бұрын
Guess another way to look at it. The pitcher doesn't really need to give in that situation. He can try to get the hitter to chase and the heck with it load the bases and set up a force play on all the bags. Can't really see from that angle but by the looks of contact he probably did just that and the hitter reached out to hit it
@erixonstone7002Ай бұрын
To answer one of the questions you asked: The run from 3rd base would not count if the batter was out at first base on the force play.
@kerrytodd3753Ай бұрын

Now show a play where the defense is heads up on a play like this and gets the runner at home. Salvy 3 or 4 days ago against the Yankees I believe. Edit: Sept 11th. Bottom of the 7th.

As a lifelong White Sox fan, all I can say is that the opposing team just bunt, the players will run around, into each other and throw the ball somewhere it shouldn't be. On offense they are just as bumbling. Stooge level. Joke. I am glad my Father isn't alive to see this mess.

@venalleader2909Ай бұрын
that's just a bang-bang play at 1B that I wonder why the 3B just didn't hold the ball since he knew there was a runner rounding 3B. That would have been an easy out at home.
@freezer8530Ай бұрын
On that two-out play, one runner had already crossed the plate. If they get the out at first base, then none of the runs would count. If instead the third baseman holds the ball and catch R2 rounding third base heading for home, then that's an easy out, but the previous run would then count since it's not a force.

I’m 100% down for teaching everyone that every man on the field has a spot to be on every single play and being able to see all of that unfold. But man, ditch the overhead view! Or make two videos if you feel obligated to teach each video. One instructional one and the other for people who already know the game. Your videos were so good and unique to any other baseball creator. As one of your consumers I feel this is the wrong direction.

Meh, disagree. I mean, it's ok if he starts off with the high view, but, cut to the other angles later in the video PLEASE. The bat is six pixels big on my screen. The ball itself doesn't exist. I can't see much of anything. The high view is OK for setup, but, vary the angles and it'll give more interest and impact to the videos.
@joshuaanderson4090Ай бұрын
This view is awful. You can barely see the runners and the ball is essentially invisible. Even at 720p. Cutting from it to closer shots and back is the answer.
