I'm glad most people in the comments are being understanding and not criticizing him. The man just lost his mother and now has to adjust to a new life and new commitments at 73. He doesn't even know the date he is in because he has so many things on his head. He hasn't even had the time to grieve privately. Monarchist or not, we're humans and we can relate.

Grief in losing a loved one no matter how old is difficult. Imagine becoming the King of multiple nations at the senior age of 73 AND hosting THOUSANDS of world leaders and MILLIONS of people grieving your precious mother. Grief comes out as frustration on those little things. King Charles-100% agree about fountain pens and the ink being annoying however, it would look horrible to use a cheap assed $1 ballpoint pen!!! He sounds just like his dad! I bet Prince Phillip said something similar multiple times in his life. To be fair, no matter how old you are, losing a loved one is tough and King Charles just lost both his parents in less than 18 months. Instead of grieving quietly, he's here there and everywhere doing official duties AND attending all these things surrounding his mother's funeral. It's all on his mind constantly and grief comes out differently in everyone.

I'm from a country who had many past turbulent times with the UK , and caused us much hardship. However in saying that, King Charles III lost his father just over a year ago and now lost his mother. He has not got any time to mourn, due to being whisked away to travel to different countries (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England), dealing with all the ceremonies, Harry and his wife, newly crowned King, lack of sleep etc. etc. etc. Anyone with morals would not have taken this video, of a man who just lost his beloved mother, who I'm sure is under severe pressure and lacking sleep, he is human, give the man a break in his hour of need. This happened in Hillsborough in Northern Ireland. I live nearby and to be honest it's a shame that this moment earned so much attention. Despite having lost his mother so recently he was very attentive to the gathered crowds and spent many hours in both Hillsborough and Belfast performing his duties. He had flown in from Edinburgh on the morning after having paid a public vigil to his mother in that city the day before. That was preceeded by many long hours of having to guard his private grief in public. He must have been exhausted and highly stressed. That he lost it over a pen in such circumstances is hardly criminal. While in Northern Ireland he held warm meetings with local politicians and most notably Sinn Féin. It was such an historic day and full of extraordinary moments. It seems like a such a shame that the incident with the pen dominated the snippets of international coverage. Big deal. The bigger deal is that the new King spoke and exhanged real pleasantries with Sinn Féin and shared a genuine hug with the President of Ireland. Who could have foreseen a day in which the Sinn Féin leadership would attend such an event and acknowledge the Queen's contribution to reconciliation on the island of Ireland? It was unprecedented.

He was just frustrated with a broken pen.. This isn't an official event so he's just being a human away from cameras, not a king.. He has just lost his mother , he's grieving on the inside and obviously taking out on trivial things He is also probably too overwhelmed and stressed about becoming king and I don't think he's getting any sleep with all the flights and services+ official events and meetings he has had to attend since Thursday ... He's literally having to grieve his mother in public, not one moment of private grief... That just breaks any human! Last but not least, he's 73 ..Cut him a little slack I'm no royalist, I'm human who has been through grief and all this is normal
