I love that Liz brought up Japan’s high level of government debt when she was talking about tax cuts. That is NOT an economic module that one should aspire to emulate. If you read a book, or even the Wikipedia article on Japan’s economy you would know that the country has been borrowing excessively for decades in an effort to kick start inflation and get out of a 30 year economic slump 🥴 Literally, common knowledge. Canada borrowed more money than any other developed country during the pandemic yet the economy has underperformed…sooo yeah Rishi's not scaremongering, or part of 'Project Fear'...💀

High Gov. borrowing does not have a link to mortgage rates, that's how Rishi is 'fear mongering'. The Gov. debt is not nearly as big a deal as these politicians are stating, we have the same conversations about debt every 3-4 years and never get a surplus. It just doesn't matter as much as they always claim. The UK has had less than 10 surpluses in the last 70 years or so, and yet we aren't drowning and unable to borrow anymore....
@alybabyal12712 жыл бұрын

@forsdykemontague10172 жыл бұрын
Restructuring the duration of COVID debt is not only sensible for a one in one hundred year event, it has many precedents f.e we have recently settled WWI debt. Reducing taxes also tends to increase tax revenues, precedents are the RoI and counter example France under Hollande. Sunak went native at the Treasury and their failed Keynesian philosophy, raising taxes is never a solution when times get tough, unwind QE and reduce the money supply, let interest rates find a new level and reduce taxes, that’s how Moneterism will reduce inflation and promote growth.

You are right, but it's not right either to burden ordinary working tax payers with repaying a debt that basically filled the pockets of the connected rich and wealthy (NHS private contracts/Covid response/Housing development - all scams that syphoned off public funds into private pockets) through disgusting economic choices of a bunch of privileged profiteers.
