Undoubtedly one of the most important sacred compositions of our time. And a composer beyond all categorisation and standards.

I am not mature enough for all works of Gubaildulina and cannot enjoy all of them but this belongs to a series of works of her which I listen repeatedly. It is a highly spiritual music.

I love this woman and her music, everything I've heard from her so far has been thourally enjoyable, moving and interesting. From the interviews I've seen and read, she's also a beautiful person who has had her struggles, as many composers from that generation. But I'm very thankful to have her music to listen to!!

Tabarnac! This is an amazing piece of music. The singers are singing as if they were present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Such amazing voices and such a collaborative effort by all the musicians. Truly stunning.

Amazing masterpiece which you would probably not listen to very often - like Bach's Passions. By the same token, it sheds a new light on Sofia Gubaidulina's other works. Although I am fairly familiar with her compositions, I will need to listen again to the "Sieben Wörte" (for Cello and Bayan: not for the faint-hearted) and to the "Meditation über einen Choral von Bach". If you enjoyed this Passion and if you do not know Gubaidulina's Chaconne for piano, I suggest that you listen to it (it is much easier music than the Passion): there are many good interpretations available on KZbin... Enjoy !

This is so haunting and terrifying, yet very sublime and amazing. It's like as Jesus is suffering and coming to his death, a wicked world full of evil and diseases is slowly unfolding and coming to it's end. The Golgota sequence is one of the most eerie, heavy and astonishing things I've ever heard. The chorus shouting and whispering "Khristos" all way through gave chills to my spine. Glórias a Deus e a seu Filho que está Vivo!

Is it fair that I compare this masterpiece to Beethoven's 9th symphony? This work is truly amazing!! Wonderful and profound music...

Is Gergiev communicating special indications to the musicians with his wavering fingers? Or is that just a mannerism he has?

Not caught in the 12-tone technique, a great song so a compelling melody and chords can also be convinced. Since the Russian but do not know exactly the progress, if the bus would be gospel historian? And tenor is Christ? Melody of the bus (gospel historian?) Is also as sutra chanting, it was also felt to resemble the melody of the Shostakovich Symphony No. 14 bus singer.

unfortunately, instead of basso profundo the singer possesses only baritone... With basso or even octave the performance is much more impressive
