I’m really enjoying these little conversations before play sessions, great to hear what Ash’s buddies feel about the game

Here's a weird thing: The audio for the intro section is only coming out of the left channel. The tabletop sections are stereo. Just something I noticed.

Game looks perfect as a light GWS coop game. It’s a massive void in their offerings. I’m picking up a copy for sure. Hopefully, they release more content for it.

I felt meh about the game becase they reused old models instead of making minies based on the video game, but it looks so fun to play! Now I want it!

Definitely a great game to play with friends/family. Simple enough for people to understand while still involving beautiful minis... If not originals. I hope to get it for my little cousin when his B-day rolls around

I can totally see more sets coming out. It's a good system for such a whimsical game. They could introduce new scenarios with new enemies &/or heroes and link it all still. A hex based skirmish game just makes me think of the mobile game Tacticus, could we see that be made next? You mentioned adding Tyranids in place of Chaos, so they could make a set called "Tacticus Onslaught. The Board Game." Include a bunch of gaunts 4-5 random Warhammer models give each one special skills & attacks and be players vs game just have to survive seven waves of Nids.

This might be a purchase - mainly because I only have the psyker. So the other 20 models work out to - based on a $130 Canadian retail - works out to about $6.50. Given even a pvc reaper bones mini is about $4, that's alright for the minis - but ongoing support is probably the main decider . . .a one and done from GW makes it a lot less appealing (the Doomsday Countown game was ok mainly for the chaos cultists, but it screamed for expansions)
@JerzyBaksinski5 ай бұрын
Im happy they made it but for now I dont really see a bang for my buck. Couple of old non-unique models, just a couple of missions. I pay a little more and get full Blackstone Fortress with much much more stuff inside. By golly for much much cheaper I get BGGs top: Gloomhaven Jaws of The Lion If it was cheaper and would be guaranteed support and expansions then maybe. For now its a hard pass.

0:52 Couldn't agree more. I recently posted on MWG about how they should try 'Zombicide' and 'Massive Darkness 2', as both are interesting co-op games that follow the kind of Narrative campaign that Mat likes to run with his Deathwatch, but Games Workshop are missing a MASSIVE trick by not producing their own game in this style. I also feel that although the gaming community loves hexes, they are very off putting to casuals. WQ: Silver Tower was immensely popular besides being on grids, and their big one of 'Space Hulk' is grids and that is always popular. Really glad you'rve chosen to do a vid on this game.

Another really well made video, It's always godd to see some coop action. It's not a game I'd play but it's always interesting to see game mechanics in action.

What a great game review with some proper play loop shown with great enthusiasm as well! It makes me want to get the tabletop game. I also subscribed to the channel hoping for more content like this. I was worried the tabeltop would be not great just using the name as a gimmick, but this does look really good. I feel though that I need to comment on some things said or rather add some info on it :) The names and what they represent The planet is called Atoma, the Hive city you fight in is called Tertium and the sector of space is called the Mobiean sector. I'm not sure if the tabletop game really explains this. The sector is what gives the Mobiean 6th it's name, the regiment that has turned to chaos and are the enemy soldiers seen in the tabeltop core box that wear carapace or Flak Armor (I think it counts as flak even though it looks like thin carapace plate armor to me). In the PC game there are more than one faction of heretics and not all are former Imperial Guard. The rejects slang for the Moebian 6 soldiers are "Scabs". Those other soldiers "Dregs" wear yellow rags and are a Nurgle cult militia. Those may not all be in the tabletop game yet. If not, then those are a good idea for adding more figures over time. Other enemies that could be added from the PC game to the tabletop are Monstrosities: Beast Of Nurgle -a big slug monster, Plague Ogryn which is far gone diseased rampaging Ogryn and a Chaos Spawn which is a jumping tentacled fast blob-like enemy that whips and smashes with its' long tentacles and grabs and eats players. Actually all of them eat players if they can to regenerate hit points. You could also add End-bosses like a Heretic Commander with a force field and plasma pistol or the Twins - two Champions of Chaos working as a team. In the PC game there are also a lot more regular enemy types: Pox hounds and trappers that can disable player characters, Bursters that suicide bomb, Ragers that are two weapon berserkers, Crushers that are Ogryns in Carapace Armor, Bulwarks that are Ogryns with a shield and club, Maulers that are tall humans in Armor with a 2-handed chain axe (but much smaller than an Ogryn), and Snipers (Mobebian 6th sniper -I think maybe it's equivalent to a dangerous gunner in the game). Also Bombers that throw flame or pox gas grenades as an area effect/ area denial. There's also the meditating Daemonhost which is a possessed human which can levitate and if woken up can rip players apart with their claws and has a very high toughness. So in theory a lot could be added to the tabletop game from the PC game if they want to. Of course so many other things from the full 40K universe could also be added. They could just add rules for various enemies from the existing 40K or Necromunda games. More things that you could add are more widespread pox gas areas that can kill you over time unless you pass through quickly, exploding barrels and pressure tanks that rupture if hit and med stations with a built-in medic servitor. So is the Darktide PC game dead? As a dedicated Darktide PC game player with more than 1000 hours on the game let me just say that even though it's not for everyone (FPS Co-op vs hordes), the game is far from dead. It is however diminished in player numbers compared to the 1 million copies sold or the 103 000 players in-game at any given time on launch to currently 3,975 players at any given time. It's about where Fat Sharks previous Warhammer fantasy game is settled at after a year in terms of player numbers. Numbers tend to come back up again somewhat whenever Fat Shark releases updates. Which happens regularly but not as often as the player base in general would like. Most recently though we got the most excellent Clandestium Gloriana mission which is an abandoned Mechanicus site that produces "True Moebian Steel" outside the Tertium Spire. The team has to go in and reactivate it and also rid it of hordes of Heretics that have taken it over. This mission would probably be a great addition to the tabletop as well as it's quite immersive and has players needing to hack away ice from gears on machines to get them running again, while being attacked by waves of enemies. Yes the PC game company Fat Shark has cosmetics in the game you buy for real money. They have added a lot more free ones in the game though recently and you can play it without ever buying a single cosmetic. Buying cosmetic doesn't add performance so it's nto pay-to-win like some games are. So you can simply ignore that shop. It was an issue when you had non-working crafting and bugs in the game but priority clearly put in having having a working cosmetics shop on launch. Those days are long gone though, bugs are fixed nowadays and the crafting has improved a lot (but still not perfect, see below) The core game becomes quite addictive beyond the initial steep learning curve of fighting hordes of enemies with multi tasking and stress being a big part of what makes it both hard to win and addictive when you manage to. But what really turns away most players is the prohibitively difficult and frustrating weapon upgrading system that has blessing and perk locks and is heavily RNG oriented forcing vast amounts of grinding and then random chance gives you something great or nerfs it to useless at the last step. That part with the annoying locks is being done away with, finally, so you'll be able to freely mod weapons and equipment. At least in the relative near future ( a few months?). Just as me and many players have advocated for every since launch as it turns away beginners like nothing I've ever seen from an otherwise great and artful even graphically stunning and beautiful and ingenious game. Maybe after that gets changed you could try the game again and see if you start to like it? Sync between Tabletop and PC game At least some of the abilities in the tabletop exist in the PC game, so do the equipment. The Auspex is something everyone has in the PC game but it works differently. The combat stim also exists. An interesting point is that the PC game developers are also soon going to allow all classes to use all weapons where some were previously locked to only one class. I see now how this reflects the tabletop game, so we can see a move here to sync the games. We may see more of that over time from both sides. I wish they'd add picking up temporary weapons in the PC game like in the tabletop while the board game could benefit from more enemy types being carried over and possibly a 3-dimensional terrain/map system a bit more like Necromunda (but with a hex grid system) to get the same spatial feel to it. Being thrown or blown off ledges and hanging on to it for dear life as teammates attempt a rescue like in the PC game is also something that the tabeltop could find both useful and fun.

Just picked this up for half price, and ordered the new kill team hivestorm! Looks great and not having distinct models doesn't bother me as i haven't played the darktide video game. Already have a full 20 blooded kill team though (all options) , but with rogue psykers, cultist kill team, cultists from the old dark vengeance box and some other bits and pieces, the extra traitor guard can be used to make an all traitor 'humans' army an option . or chaos human defence force for use in OPR!

This "Kill Team boardgame" seems fun but overpriced to me. If a box with factions/models for my taste comes out sure I'll gladly go for it though :) Also if add ons with just cards/tiles/rules using my existing models came out (White Dwarf stuff !!!) hell yes. As a non youtuber and non-tournamnet player thsi is waht whould make me finish an army or 25 models in one go.

While there may be expansions in the future, I'm surprised the base game didn't include the possibility of a bad big guy spawning like a Chaos Ogryn or Spawn. Would provide the uh oh moments from the video game, add needed challenge, and not be something you have to play through 15 missions before you get to any possible expansions to see them.

Looks like a one-and-done product, and like Crypt of Blood its too expensive for what it is. Agree that GW needs to do more on the solo-coop side of things, but I would still go with Blackstone Fortress as that offers a tremendous amount of value in comparison and one can easily create a small expedition of 2 combats & 2 challenges, and remove the combat cards with 3-4 hostile groups. That said, I've been playing a simplified version of Quest using the boards from the Direchasm underworlds set, and also find potential in custom terrain for the impassable hexes. The good thing about being a soloist is that its so easy to make our own games, using what is available.

@@kaibe5241It's a great way to get newbies into the hobby. I know plenty of people who love Darktide and the Warhammer universe, but are too intimidated to start the mini side of things. For us veteran gamers, we just bat an eye and shoulder past it. For newbies, this is a golden opportunity for them to tackle a small project.

Dont want to be rude but saying Darktide is Left 4 Dead is almost a disservice to Darktides mechanics and structure and its huge jump forward in terms of what and fps can play and feel like compared to other FPS games.. To give you an example compare how Darktides treat its enemies with ranged weapons vs any other shooter. its gun toting enemies dont behave like shooters, they behave more like souls bosses or even fighting game characters. There attack have windups actually allowing you to dodge them. oh yeah having a dodge button in an FPS makes going back to other fps games with no dodge painful. i think even folk who play it dont quite grasp how much its trying to move the fps genre forwards.3:01 ouch. ive not even used the store. the games has had updates, new stuff, its not burnt out ha
