The new Rohirrim minis looks awesome! The entire new starter lokos ace.

I’m assuming this was filmed before the new starter set was announced. But that’s a pretty good indication of where GW is taking the system from a design aesthetic. I personally think they’ve been really clever with how they’ve designed the new troops ( first plastic troops in 11 years mind). Whilst they’re in the upcoming anime, they’ve designed them to tie in closely with the film trilogy. Which side steps the issue of having too much of a visual contrast with the current range. The hero’s look a bit more anime influenced, but they don’t look any less cartoonish than some of the hobbit era hero’s do (Azog, Bolg, Dain etc…). It also means if the WOTR film is a flop, the miniatures aren’t necessarily tethered to that one film and treated with the same stigma. Again, pretty clever. I’m personally way more excited about how this game is supported post WOTR. Plastic troops being re-done is something the community has wanted for years and I imagine they won’t just stop at Rohan. They’ll probably keep going with one supplement a year but hopefully they’ll be a few more new kits released along the way (Last Alliance please). It’s looking bright!

the anime is produced by virtually the same group as the movies and weta designs are clearly still in the anime (which has much less detail in any case) so there wasn't much risk of visual contrast.

They also have designed the miniatures to basically replace or serve as some of the older options. Warriors of Rohan are still Warriors of Rohan. The Hill Tribesman can serve as the wildmen from Saruman's forces. Now we just need some new kits for Gondor and some other factions.

The Callis and Toll characters and all the new Blacktalon characters (beside Neive herself) appeared on Warhammer TV before anywhere else. The Blacktalon box for AoS has art from the TV show on the front with the logo from the TV show. The Blacktalon minis came out not too long after the season 1 final episode. Callis and Toll however, was part of Hammer & Bolter and their book and minis came out quite a while after the episode.

@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Relic Entertainment was bought by Sega (not EA) and was recently spun off as independent after both Dawn of War III and Company of Heroes 3 failed commercially.

humorously they've already shown the redesigned rohan infantry, I think Ash is on the nose and I expect anything seen in the movie will get a model. So on Ash's comment of being distinct of the peter jackson LotRs movies for legal reasons i would point out that peter jackson shows as an executive producer (for whatever thats worth) but interestingly if you flip through the different scenes of the trailer so much of it is lifted directly from the two towers, the palace in Edoras is inch by inch the same, the throne of rohan is the same, the weapons and some of the armours are the same. There seems like almost an allergic reaction to creating their own style or look for it (difference between animating and live action not withstanding). Basically how much different do the models need to get? they all wear the same armour, ride the same horses live in the same buildings. Overall Im very excited, both for watching the movie and for getting new models and rules

I love the Lord of the Rings books and the movies helped me visualize the text better. I so want to play MESBG but they way they sell figures for the game make it so hard to play it. outside the starter boxes they need to have plastic sets. No more individual metal or worse forgeworld resin blisters.

Hope the two of you are aware that there is "talk" of a new film called "the Hunt for Gollum". Sir Ian Mckellen has said he be keen to return as Gandalf, but Peter would need to hurry up as he is 85 years old. I'm guessing that New Line is producing films now as the contract for the rights may expire if they just sit on their hands. The Amazon of "The Rings of Power" is because one of the Space Cowboy's kids is a super LotR fan. Bezos may have done this in the same way as other Billionaires buy English Football teams, as a kind of a hobby, which may produce money and if not be a tax write-off.... They leave the Welsh Football teams for rich Canadians to play with.

Ha, I assumed it was a live action movie too when I first heard about it. Didn’t really care either way when I found out it was animated. The Hobbit movies were pretty disappointing and has put me off everything except the actual LotR books by Tolkien.

Many of these questions have been answered already. We've seen the new sculpts for warriors of Rohan and Dunland respectively, and they aren't "anime" sculpts. Just standard MESBG sculpts. They're not going to have a range of "cartoon" models alongside everything else in MESBG.

I am pretty hopeful on the film. Warner Brothers have a great track record making animated films. DC Animation have released a lot of good stuff based off of comic storyline.

My wishlist for the new SBG is for them to add another co-op/solo mode on a smaller table size. I think it would fit the game well thematically and would serve the community well.

Thinking about the animation tie-ins, GW sounds more and more like CDPR, with no coordination between departments
