How do you join these Zoom calls?
@galgrunfeld99542 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly I was able to guess all of them with the exception of Ancient Greek because I wasn't sure you'd consider it a dead language (as Greek is still spoken). Was very cool, I loved these! Please do more. :)

@@weltschmerz0 nice :) Even though he has at least a slight "accent" (away from the standard pronunciation) of all these languages, to people familiar how these languages sound, I think they can be identified VERY fast, mainly using a combination of intonation and sounds/sequences of sounds. What languages do you speak?
@robinsonworld2 жыл бұрын
I messaged you back in 2015 when you were at Harvard, you might not remember but I asked you about contacting Noam Chompsky. Anyway, I am into indigenous languages and I am in Guatemala learning Chuj de San Mateo, and Q'anjobal which is proving a challenge now at almost 70 years of age, compared to when I learned German at 5 and Spanish at 18 and Sign Language at 60. You are an encouragement to all language learners and cementing the truth that the human mind is amazing.

If you were to try and learn a new language from scratch, and you wanted to learn it as quickly as possible, what would you do? Let's say it was like Chinese and had thousands of letters you didn't recognize. Also, how fast do you think you could reach C1 with that method?
@IbtihalMahmood2 жыл бұрын
Guessed all of them except Greek and Latin - need a refresher in Classics, apparently! By the way, your Arabic is amazing! Did you study it with a Maghrebi speaker? My native dialect is Shami/Levantine.

He knows,not as much as Arabic or Persian but ge knows in a decent level.Btw,there are still languages like Kurdish(with at least 3 different dialects),Assyrian,Azerbajcani Turkish,and Armenian(due to some Armenians living in Syria) in Middle East.But yeah due to languages he already now,if he wnats he can speak all ME languages,at some level.

I originally misread the title as “guess the language with _other_ polyglots | tim doner” and was so confused at how so-called “polyglots” couldnt even guess basic languages like chinese and farsi and hebrew, but then halfway thru, reread the title, and realized it was “with _American_ polyglot | Tim Doner”. Lmfao 🤣 🤣 im sorry To the first two ladies for yelling at the screen about how they could call themselves as “polyglots” when they couldnt even guess basic languages like chinese. But, i admit, it wouldn’t really make sense to play “guess the language” with polyglots anyways, lol.
