Right? One time I ended up with a suite for a reason I don't remember. Nothing to do with me. Charged for a regular room. I'm a long haul trucker. There are times I'm laid over for a weekend for one reason or another. Frequently, I find out around midday (noon-1:00 pm) that I'm down for the weekend. If there's a reasonably decent hotel nearby, I'll go in and ask what the rate might be "for a tired ol' truck driver laid over for the weekend". Sometimes it's too rich for my blood; other times it's easy on the pocketbook. If I can, I'll go ahead and register for a room; at times there's a room already available. More than once, because I'm a nice guy to service personnel (y'all put up with enough s**t that you don't need more from me!!) - and especially the front desk clerk, I've gotten upgrades to nicer rooms. I NEVER ask for an upgrade - at most, I hope for a decent chair to sit in, rather than the hard chairs they like to put by the "desk".. Other times, I've gotten a night knocked off the bill. The guest has a corporate credit card, by his own admission he travels frequently and stays at this same hotel frequently enough to be demanding, curt and rude to the staff so he knew the coffee pot wasn't an 'amenity'. His phony reaction when the hotel contacted him and told him he needed to return it or be charged for it ruffled his feathers because he never dreamed they'd confront him about it. He wanted to show them who was boss while flexing his perceived power because he was butt hurt he didn't get an upgrade this time or his last stay and he felt he was owed by the hotel so he swiped the coffee maker. Why not swipe the lamps, desk, shower curtain and bed while he's at it? If the sun rose and set on this guest the way he believes it does, he wouldn't have to work for anyone, or any large corporation, or have need of a corporate credit card to cover his expenses, let alone having someone scrutinize his expenditure sheet for his travel before being approved for payment.

At a hotel I stayed at in Anaheim, there was plaque with a list of charges for hotel room items, from bed sheets to the TV. The most I've ever taken is one of those mini bottles of shampoo, a pen, and a bar of soap. My mother was a company accountant who audited all the travel expenses. Nobody got away with charging pay per view porn at company expense. If somebody tried to get away with charging a coffee maker they stole, they'd wish they could find a hole to crawl into when being called on the carpet. Besides, after an event where somebody bought personal items on a company credit card and refused to pay, then hired a lawyer when they tried to garnish his wages, they stopped company credit cards. They'd pick up the annual fee, but would only reimburse legitimate expenses.
