My Viennese mother made this cake throughout our childhood. She passed away in 2019 & I was left her cook book with the recipe written in German. Thankyou so much for taking the time to do this Guglehupf Cake in English with clear instructions & measurements. Greetings from Manchester, UK :-)

I once saw Austrian marble cake sold for £33 so I began to search for recipes. I made the cake today using this recipe and it turned out to be one of the most amazing cakes I've ever made. Tastes great and melts in the mouth. Thanks 👍🏻

I travel yearly to Vienna and love this cake so much. I always bring a gugelhopf back home to American from Demel but this time making your version. The recipe is wonderful. Can’t wait to try it.

Hi Jim, I use a pan by a company called NAVA they are greek so I don't know if you can get these in the us, I have also tried an aluminium pan from amazon which worked very well, check the blog for more information on that. Thanks for watching

I really hope you see this message!!! Please help me. I used to live in Austria and this is one of my favorite cakes but I remember it as a child. I live in America now and I just wanted to make sure this wasn't similar to American pound cake? As far as I remember, this cake has a very unique sort of dry and crumbly taste and texture. Is this the right cake I am thinking of or something else? I have been searching for the right recipe for years as I am a Baker but I can't remember the correct name of the cake I had as a child

Hi Irma, Gufelhupf is made in two way, this one is has a cake texture although a bit more dry, the old version has a bread like texture and is made with yeast. Which one is it you are looking for?
@irmaavdic94683 жыл бұрын
@@UrbanTreats thank you so so much for your reply! I believe I'm looking for the first version you mentioned which I believe is the recipe in this video. Do you know of any other Austrian cakes that may be similar to this?
@UrbanTreats3 жыл бұрын
@@irmaavdic9468 Hi Irma, sorry for my late reply. With a dry texture, this would be the only cake I know from back home. Its quite easy to make so give it a try and let me know how it turned out :)

If I reduced the sugar to half the amount, will it affect the texture of the cake? I like mine less sweet. Thank you for the well-informed video!
@UrbanTreats3 жыл бұрын
Hi, No it won't affect the texture, you can safely reduce the sugar. However it doesnt turn out very sweet with the sugar I added, maybe try reducing it by 25% first and see if you like it? Thank you for watching and leaving a comment :)

the whisk is not designed for creaming the butter and sugar together because the whisk has thin wires. the flat beater is suitable for creaming butter and sugar together :)
@UrbanTreats2 жыл бұрын
That is true, however, using a whisk with thin wires introduces more air and makes your batter light and fluffy. But I can tell you that no matter which of the two you use your cake will turn out great ;)

At what point do you add the Lemon Zest? It's not in the video.

In the video presented, you mentioned that you put baking soda and in the recipe ingredients at the bottom of the video you wrote baking powder. What is correct?
@UrbanTreats3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for pointing this out I actually missed it. Baking Powder is the correct ingredient although, both will work due to the reaction with the milk and lemon zest. Baking powder will work better. Sorry for the mistake

Is it okay if I dont separate the eggs?
@UrbanTreats3 жыл бұрын
The egg white fluffs up better when you separate them due to the fat content in the yolk but jt should turn out ok even if you don't 👌

I thought kugelhuph is bread??
@UrbanTreats3 жыл бұрын
Hi Wedad, Kugelhupf is a traditional Austrian/German cake. There are two versions of this cake one of them uses yeast similar to an Italian Panettone, however no one in Austria makes it like this anymore, at least not at home. I grew up with this version which is easier and faster to make.
@Dalal19813 жыл бұрын
The texture is thick a little bet it is ok?!
@UrbanTreats3 жыл бұрын
Its a similar texture to a marble cake, not very thick but also not fluffy, perfect with tea or coffee 😉
