A non-obvious "caster" weapon are claws for blade fury assassins. Blade fury is a spell and does not eat durability but you want +damage instead of +skills on your weapon for it.

Charsi imbue quest also keeps the ethereal property so normal ethereal crystal/dimensional swords can be turned into a rare and then upped to a phase blade ethereal throwing weapons can also gain replenishing quantity from her

Some days ago I found an Ethereal Ali Baba ... and I didn't know what to do with it ... all the specs are the same but as you mention it ... requirements are lowered so now I don't need too much dexterity and that's a lot of value for me (I was using charms to add additional dexterity points) ... and durability is not affected if both clicks (left and right) are configured as spell ... also it looks really really cool !!!

I still personally feel like defense being practically useless is a MAJOR flaw they should've fixed with D2R, but that would've changed the game way too much.....still stupid design to me, though. Same feeling towards the weight system. What's the point of all these armors if most are basically useless and/or just hinder you?

Defense is more useful than most people think. Try playing a sorc with 600 vs 4k defence and you will for sure feel the difference

I missed one tiny detail, with the self repair / replenish, IIRC if it goes to 0 it stops repairing itself so it becomes junk. I haven't tried in some many years but that used to be the case. It may be kind of important for all those that pay a lot for their eth Titans perhaps?

Quantity should still replenish as they did, items however that reach 0 durability WILL be broken.

I just realized yesterday that Blizz removed the ebug feature. What a shame. There are still a lot of annoying bugs yet they "fixed" something which was part of the game for a long time and made the end game loot hunting fun.

@@MarianoGianni1 If you used the cube recipe ( to add sockets to ethereal armour it would reroll the item and add the +50% ed again. So a perfect defence sacred armour 600 def would become 900 def when ethereal. If you were to ebug it it would get +50% again and become 1350 def. It also worked with helms and shields but they were never as popular.

My single player smiter back in PlugY d2 spent who knows how long searching for an eth-buggable Exile base. In the end I couldn't find a vortex and settled for a 43 all resist gilded shield I finally found after a literal week. That was probably the most stressful cubing of my D2 history lol. If anything, I'm glad eth-bugging is no longer a thing in D2R.

I figure caster items like that are usually fine for a while. You don’t want to get hit anyway, so durability drops pretty slow. Yeah, it won’t last forever but it’ll get you for a while. I wouldn’t cry too hard if my first Shako/Vipermagi/Lidless or something like that dropped eth.

Btw guys, ethereal caster helms can be put to use on Act 3 mercs. I know it's niche but for example an eth griffon's on an Act 3 Light merc is gonna do genuine work. Just a tip.

I have a javazon with a nice stack of ethereal self replenishing javelins. Sure they be outleveled soon enough but for now they are a nice set of random rare javelins. Ethereal leveling gear are nice. By thd time they break they are obsolete anyway. An etheral weapon could be a switch in weapon for bossfights.

Can we get real just for a moment, lets just dial things back down to planet earth for a moment. MrLlamaSC casually mentions socketing these really good ethereal items with Zod runes. 🤨😂 Aside from single player where there might be potential for duping, if you're playing online, the chances of you actually finding a Zod rune are almost non-existent, I don't mean in the near future. I mean EVER! I spent half a year in 2015 farming and preparing to solo the ubers with no help from any bots or other people. I was successful, on my first attempt I might add. But in that whole time, of intense farming, the highest rune I ever found was a Vex or Ohm. A far cry from a Zod, Jah or even Bur. Out of the 26k+ people who have viewed this video, I am certain that less than 50 will be able to comment that THEY have found a Zod rune in game.

Its perfectly OK to have an eth Spirit shield. The higher def and lower str req is worth the limited use. What -- are you worried you're going to break a shield and lose your precious Tal, Thul, Ort and Amn rune? these are throw away items anyways. Get the benefits of an eth shield, who cares if it breaks.

Looking at Obedience - Can you make a more in depth guide on what items are used for (i.e. what their purpose is when it isn't obvious)? Lots of videos talk about how great spirit or shako are and why, like obviously that should be easy to figure out, but weapon and damage calcs are so complicated it isn't easy to tell and it's more complicated when it comes to mercenaries. So Obedience looks like such an awesome weapon for basically zero cost, those runes are so cheap. Yet I don't know anyone that uses it. My guess is maybe for a Merc for a fire character before they get infinity? Polearms in particular I'm not sure how they are tiered. Like I know infinity is goat for elemental dealers and insight is great budget for mama Regen obviously, but how do Obedience Reapers toll Pride And more factor in. When would you want to use obedience instead of these other options? Is it literally just a budget option before getting something better on a character that doesn't need insight Merc?

I’m new to Diablo. Played the D4 open beta weekend. Loved it. Bought D2R. Loving it. Got a level 75 Druid sloshing through Hell lol but jus found out last night that if I lose a bunch of durability on a piece of ethereal gear then equip it on a hired merc it fixes itself then I equip it back on myself & it stays fixed at full durability again. I assume this being an old game this is known???

Not how it work. Items with “replenishes quantity” can spawn normal and ethereal. Replenishes quantity is not the same thing as indestructible. The always eth / always not eth ONLY applies to uniques that spawn with the indestructible mod

BTW, there's a rumor that the personalization reward by Anya can repair ethereal items. That's not the case anymore, but I think it was possible in 1.09 or 1.10. The ethereal base armors with 1000 defense in the video are imported from old D2, correct? I haven't tried it yet, but I heard the eth cube bug (which added the eth bonus on armors a second time) has been fixed in D2R.

Only thing I'd add is that good ethereal uniques are still useful and have some value. Yes, they're on a timer, but if it's a big upgrade then it's worth it (for less value of course) because by the time it breaks you would have benefited from it to find more useful stuff. Think of i t like renting. I would absolutely use an Eth shako if I found one or trade some low-mid rune for it from someone who thinks it's garbage.

​@@Wendigo1986 on p1 ber from cows is 1/720k. ber from storm casters is 1/356k, and 1/1000k from other monsters. Now think about the monster density of cow level vs chaos sanctuary. Cows is definitely better. Spectres in arcane also have that 1/356k drop rate, but their density is even lower than chaos sanctuary.

The problem with ethereal ribcracker is you can't hit 5 frame fury without a shael or IAS jewel. One of 2 staves they could have picked that would suffer from this. :(

Correct. A unique with the 'Indestructible' mod will never have a chance to roll Ethereal. If you find one that is both Indestructible and Ethereal, it has both mods hardcoded (like Ghostflame). Note this is the same for normal items, namely Phase Blades (Elite Crystal Sword) - they are innately indestructible, and as such can not ever roll Ethereal. You can only get an Ethereal Phase Blade by upping an Ethereal Rare/Unique Crystal/Dimensional Blade into a Phase Blade.

A high roll eth griffins is Definently very worth the zod. On jsp a perfect eth griffs is going for over 2x zod. And eth arachnids still had a niche place on a bo barb who never gets hit, or if you're pre buffing and need all the +skills you can get.

lvl 14? Don't you mean lvl 24? It's probably worth 35k gold. Could be ~18k. If it was rare it might have been worth something for pvp with good additional mods. I'd just keep it for quicker chaos runs or playthroughs. It's nice to have tele on something other than weapon swap and cold res is often a res that is lacking on starting chars so that's a nice bonus, but magic rings are not really tradable.
