😎don’t forget to mention to de-barb that pig sticker. I know, it’s a given for most of us. Always great info.

Absolutely! Good advice. I should have shown how to crush crush the barb in the vice head. You just gave me a great idea for a YT short. Thanks for watching and appreciate the feedback.

Last week I caught a fish on the Juan that, in addition to my fly, had an annelid still hooked in its mouth. The annelid was trailing tippet still connected to a jiggy mop fly. I was stoked, caught a fish and got 2 free flies.

That's my fish. Was using that exact setup when I was there last August.

Hey James, Was great seeing you on the water last week and wanted you and your viewer to know that this pattern kill it on the Juan. Thanks for the great videos and information. Have learned a ton from you over the years and just wanted you to know I appreciate all you do. Stay safe out there and looking forward to the new arrival to the family. Stay safe and I'll look for ya on the water.

Always enjoy watching your videos. I have been tying red larvae with small or medium spanflex which make a great pattern. Keep the vids coming. Happy days

Noticed your thread was fluorescent. Does the "flourescent" make a difference? Seems like flies tied with material that glows bright under a UV light catch more fish.... Or is it just me?
@AboutTrout11 ай бұрын
I like UV on darker days and more stained water

love me some easy guide flies. however, i have no idea how to nymph when it's not a perdigon. would love a video on Rigging non euro nymphs like these... (if you have one already can you link to it?) like do you use this as your dropper fly on a euro rig or is this best for a bobber and split shot nymph... i know there's nuance about how you use any fly but there's a baseline and then the variations stem out from that

I am not trying to be a wise-guy, but I'd seriously like to know if the fish can tell any difference between a San Juan and a red Gamagatsu Octopus hook? For the record I've seen a number of trout strike a bare red Gamagatsu hook.
@AboutTrout11 ай бұрын
You’re not. They absolutely eat red hooks. The slang on the Juan for a red hook is “BNL” like the band.
@locomtn16a211 ай бұрын
I like the Gamakatsu C12U hooks for tying pig stickers, but have never seen the hooks in red. Just use various colors of thread & wire.

The first larva worked really well at munoz. I had to down size to a 20 though.

Hey james, what kind of pfd does one need when floating the Juan? Thank you

I use the belt pdfs which are the most popular on the river.

Now you have to combine the two together and make it articulated. I call it the wiggle worm. Works every time, 43% of the time.

Skip the thread and the rib and just put some resin on the red hook and your ready to fish

Too much work. A red hook by itself will fish.
