I joined my church choir when I was a kid. I can't sing, never could. I just wanted to be closer to the organ pipes.

Watching Diane Bish on The Joy of Music when I was younger is what inspired me to want to play the organ and this is usually the first song I play when I play an organ for the first time :-)

Oh yes, my lack on concentration. I always get these muddled up even though I play them on a regular basis. The question remains though about the last line of the tune being altered when it travelled from Wales to the US. The line "Feed me till I want no more" or "Feed me now and evermore" should all be sung with the same note, not follow the tenor line.

The "slide thing" controls the crescendo. Some organ builders use a wheel instead of a pedal for crescendo. The pedal next to it is the swell pedal.

Any idea where to get a copy of the introduction/interlude arrangement she is playing from?

I love this hymn and i love this version by the majestic Mrs. Bish, i especially love the introduction part, is there sheet music available for this specific arrangement.

Very interesting design. I once saw an organ for sale on the organ clearing house website that had a console that looked just like this. I wonder what it's like to play at a console like that.

Obviously this this is a modern console. I like how streamlined it is. Just goes to show you the modern can meld very well with traditional/classic.

it is not the conditon of the organ , rather it is the depravity of one's soul that chooses to judge godly music in the negative.

Unusual to hear the crowning song of Wales on a Hungarian Organ. Do their people sing it in their churches?
@ToddSF7 жыл бұрын
Probably not sung in Hungary. However, this organist, Diane Bish, is visiting from America, her home country, where the tune Cwm Rhondda is very popular for the words "Guide me, O thou great Jehovah" and this is her arrangement.

I like this performance, I like Diane Bish but I want to know when this tune "Blaenwern" got altered from the original, it drives me mad every time I hear it! Someone please come up with the answer.
@ToddSF7 жыл бұрын
I actually don't like Cwm Rhondda when the sopranos (or the congregation) sing all the same note for the words "Feed me till I want no more" (or "Feed me now and evermore"). I say it's better when the tenors do that and the sopranos and congregation sing the actual melody for that line. It's that way in all U.S. hymnals -- and I note in one of them there's an asterisk and footnote about that particular line explaining that having the tenors sing the melody while the sopranos (and congregation) sing the repetitive note is the alteration and please don't do it that way. This tune, by the why isn't "Blaenwern" -- it's definitely Cwm Rhondda -- two completely different tunes.

Nice sounding organ but that looks like the most ghastly console ever. All the stops on one side:why?
@ToddSF7 жыл бұрын
It's a very compact console designed to fit in a small space. Here's a link to a photo of it taken straight on with no one sitting on the bench so it affords a good view of a very modern console installed in 1984. quod.lib.umich.edu/o/organs1ic/x-69/2008-07-13D_BUDAPEST-ST_MATTHIAS_8.JPG?lasttype=boolean;lastview=thumbnail;resnum=6;size=20;start=1;subview=detail;view=entry;rgn1=ic_all;select1=all;q1=organs1ic;op2=And;rgn2=ic_all;select2=all;q2=Matthias
