The sheet copper with a little roofing tar will be sold as #2 copper ..they will blend it into there bales or boxes ..export item . The Romex recoveries go from 65 % to 70 % ..keep that in mind . Batteries ..lead acid only is correct...Nicad /Nickle Cadmium batteries can cost you to legally dispose of them and it is costly . Electric motors are commonly bought at a 10% recovery rate . Clean heat sinks can be sold as clean extrusion or 6063 aluminum .Correct on the transformers and Aluminum Copper radiators ..very good ..

Overall yes there are some good descriptions but also mistakes are being told as facts. The #2 copper u showed has a piece of brass on it...red brass in fact. No scrap yard is gonna pay #2 when it has brass on it. Your electric motors segment also had copper bearing mixed in as well which would also fall into the transformers and the backs off of tvs....although there are two seperate categories they break down into. How long has virginia worked in a scrap yard? Id be willing to show u some things if u wanna learn

Got back into the scrapping game about a month ago. It's interesting seeing how competitive some scrappers can be. Glad I don't have to directly compete with an you of them.

Lol! I'm glad you're at your computer I sure do have a few questions. I work for one of the leading satellite televesion providers (can't say their name on social websites) But I started collecting all the power cords, and a few other metals from the boxing I swap out. I start cleaning them to get the bright copper, but one day I had about 8 pounds of cords and after I cleaned them, I had half a point bright wire. Question being, since the insulated wire is like a 1.30, wouldn't be more better to just cut off the plugs instead of doing all that work.
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 9 жыл бұрын
If you have only about 8 pounds it would really be worth it. We usually suggest stripping your wire when you have over 50 pounds. Otherwise you are taking away so much weight by removing the insulation it won't equate to many pounds of copper.

Thanks. it's the AWG 18 threaded wire. I was spending close to an hour stripping that mess, to get one pound. I just focus on stripping 14 and 12 solid wire now. It's a fun hobby.

Great video! I have a question I wanted to see if anyone can answer. I go thru a lot of Bic lighters, when one runs out I always take the steel windcover off and throw it in w/ my scrap steel. Then pull out the little red button lever that let's out the gas, and take out the springs and put em in with my steel. Then take out the little brass piece. My only problem is the little piece that the red button is attached to that let's out the gas. It's not magnetic, is a silver color, but it seems heavier than a piece of aluminum that size would be. I know some times brass can be silver colored. If any experienced scrapper who uses Bic lighters reads this. Can someone tear down an empty bic lighter and see what they think it's made of, please. It's the oval shaped piece with the red plastic piece attached to it that I am trying to find out about. I know it seems like it's so small it's not worth dealing with, but every little bit adds up, I've got about 200 of em. Because everytime my gf or family members run out a lighter they put it with anything else they may have for me to scrap. So someone please help me.

About the bare bright----What if the sticky glue from electrical tape is still on it after the tape is removed. Does is lower the price?
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 10 жыл бұрын
That is a judgement call, if there is a great deal of sticky glue it may be a lower price, but if there isn't too much we don't see why it would be a big deal.

if i bring my scrapyard heat-sinks that are aluminum and copper, they pay me less than aluminum price..... do you guys think that is fair?
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 10 жыл бұрын
If they are paying a few cents lower than aluminum price, that is fair. Be sure to get the all-copper and aluminum heat sinks separate through, some yards buy them at different prices.

If I happened to have melted down copper into purified ingots using flux and degasser where would I sell that or would anyone even buy it
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 9 жыл бұрын
tankkiller308 unless you are a processing plant it and have fined tuned ways of getting 100% copper in the ingots (very difficult to do), it will be very difficult for someone to buy them. They will not know what kind of contaminants are inside of the copper ingots. Your best option is to sell your copper as is to your scrap yard that way everyone knows exactly what material is being scrapped.
