Btw if you have a Wii Motion Plus accessory or Wiimote with it built in, you don't need a sensor bar (though you'll still get better results with one). Set the controller to "Emulated Wii Remote" instead of "Real Wii Remote," press "Configure," and use the built in "Wii Remote with MotionPlus Pointing (Stock)" profile. This will use the gyroscope and accelerometer to simulate a sensor bar, and it works good enough for low accuracy situations where you just need to navigate menus or point at things. Separately, you may notice that the Wiimote speakers don't work even if you check "Enable Speaker Data." Unfortunately, with current builds of Dolphin, speaker audio does not work for any Wiimotes except for a specific model of Wiimote plus (the -TR model). The workaround is to enable Bluetooth Passthrough, which you can look up how to do on the wiki. (Bluetooth Passthough means nothing else can use bluetooth, so you may want to buy a cheap usb bluetooth adapter so your main bluetooth card still works. You also can't use MotionPlus pointing with bluetooth passthrough, so you will need a sensor bar or candles or two phones with the flashlight on or something.)

Good advice. Hope this comment gets pinned.
@Rocky24185 күн бұрын
It's weird, I tried following your instructions in the first paragraph (the Wiimote speakers are an afterthought - just trying to get the Wiimote itself working for now) and haven't yet been successful. I side loaded the "Pair Wiimote" app, and successfully got it paired to my Odin 2. Then I went into Dolphin and selected the "Wii Remote with MotionPlus Pointing" profile after selecting "Emulated Wii Remote". But even after doing that, no games are detecting any input from the Wiimote - whether the nunchuk is plugged in and enabled or not. Any thoughts as to what I might be missing?
@augustdeer5 күн бұрын
@@Rocky2418 *Short answer:* The "Pair Wiimote" app is not a supported method for connecting your Wiimote to Dolphin, and the built-in profile will not work with it. If you want an easy solution, you'll need to purchase a Dolphinbar or switch to the PC version of Dolphin. *Long answer:* I had not heard of "Pair Wiimote" before seeing this comment, but here is my best advice after some minimal research. The "Pair Wiimote" app appears to be primarily designed to let you use your Wiimote as a controller for Android games. As such, your Wiimote will show up in all Android apps, including Dolphin, as though it were a standard Switch/Xbox/Playstation style gamepad. Thus, to use the "Pair Wiimote" app with Dolphin, you'll need to manually remap all the controller buttons back to the correct inputs within the Dolphin settings. In addition, as far as I can tell the "Pair Wiimote" app does not process motion plus or the sensor bar, so you'll need to find an alternate way to control pointing inputs, like the touchscreen. This will likely require some trial and error to work out exactly how best to set everything up. Hope this helps! I'm sorry the only answers I have are "buy a $30 gizmo," "waste several hours of your life trying to get this 5 year old app to work," or "get a gaming PC." I hope you find a better 4th option I don't know about.

In regards to the Wiimote syncing, the launch Wiimote also had that sync button inside the battery comaprtment but it was rarely used. The Wiimote was synced with the console it came with out of the box, so that's why you could just press the 1 and 2 button and get them connected but if you wanted to connect it to a different Wii or spent awhile without the Wiimotes connected to the Wii, you'd need to press the sync button.

It's probably been said, but the Mayflash bar works on PC too. If someone has Dolphin on PC and Android, you wouldn't necessarily need to buy both bars. My Mayflash is from years ago, so maybe my experience is outdated. Just putting it out there so people aren't buying two bars unnecessarily. And I agree, it really is a seamless, great experience on Dolphin with these bars!

Thanks for covering this. Figured this out around 3 years ago on my laptop, but the excitement for those who has set it up the first time never changes. I use a mini-pc setup now which is perfect for the console-like feeling. You can also use Raphnet V3 (no tilt sensor) or RetroCultMods V3 (with tilt sensor) adapters if you want a wired connection. What these adapters do basically is convert the signals into DInput or XInput respectively. Note: 3rd-party Wiimotes do NOT work with the MayFlash DolphinBar. Stick to OEMs if using that sensor bar. It also works for both PC and Android, so no need to buy separate sensor bars in case that was not clear in this video.

The Steam Deck's trackpads are perfect for Wii pointer games, like Sin and Punishment and Mario Galaxy star bit cursor aiming. But taking it further, I somehow managed to beat Zack and Wiki in its entirety on Steam Deck. Cursor controls were all done via the trackpads, but for things like twisting the remote, that's where I had to carefully use the analog stick+modifier buttons. Twisting was janky, but I somehow got it to work. But yeah, you can simply just pair a Wiimote, but I wanted to prove almost anything is playable on the Deck.

Speaking as a Batocera PC user: Dolphin Bar has some input lag but is SO MUCH easier than the other options. Sync them up to the bar, plug in peripherals as needed... no fuss. I spent hours fiddling with Bluetooth passthrough and direct connects to Batocera or to Dolphin but on Batocera specifically Nuchucks and other plug-in controllers would do all kinds of crazy freezing/not working/other BS. I try and make my Batocera rig as console-like as possible, so I straight up would not have Wii games in my setup at all if it wasn't for the Dolphin Bar. Don't overthink it just get one and use it and enjoy it!
@michaelmuller14335 күн бұрын
Did you manage to get sound out of the Wiimote? I have Batocera, the first generation of gyro Wiimote and the Mayflash Dolphin bar. Sound out of the Wiimote speaker doesn’t work (just a garbled mess) and after doing some research it only works with one of the last generation of Wiimotes. But you seem to be able to fix it somehow with Bluetooth passthrough.
@zachb45615 күн бұрын
@michaelmuller1433 It's been a while since I set it all up and used it so I don't remember for sure honestly. I have Bluetooth Passthrough on iirc, I think I had the same issue of the sound being garbled as you say when using the Dolphin Bar. I believe if you go into the Wii's popup Home Menu and turn the Wiimote speaker volume all the way down most of the Wiimote sounds get mixed into the TV's audio output anyways?
@michaelmuller14334 күн бұрын
@ Thanks, I’ll play around with passthrough then. I want to play Silent Hill: Shattered Memories in Dolphin and it has things like static noise coming out of the Wiimote when enemies are near you or getting phone calls where you hold the Wiimote to your ear so you hear the caller coming from the Wiimote speaker. That was very immersive back then when I played it on original hardware. Playing these sounds on the TV would probably work but it would cost a lot of atmosphere.

One thing to note, sometimes the Wii Remote will lose Sync with Dolphin if you leave your game running idle for too long & sometimes when you re sync it will make you the wrong player so I highly recommend the Mayflash Dolphin bar for handheld PCs instead of the generic one, since you can turn it on and off to re sync the remotes easily

Nice video, but I hoped it would address some of the common problems. I.e. that some (or a lot?) bluetooth modules just don't work well with the Wiimote. So the Mayflash sensor bar is also a good choice for the PC as it has no bluetooth issues of course. And the other big issue is sound over the Wiimote speaker which is essential in some games like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Sound depends mostly on the Wiimote and only super new ones (from the Wii U era) are without problems. For older ones (including the ones with gyro!) you need to set the bluetooth module in a special mode which then causes other problems. I hoped the video would explain that point because I haven't managed to get it right for now.
