Walt Disney Imagineering just revealed their newest and most advanced animatronics ever. The figures coming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland and Disney World are so fun, expressive, and impressive! So I decided to rank all the animatronics that we’ve seen so far on this ride that will open later this year.

I met an imagineer at world championships for robotics, and he said that the way Louis is designed is changing the way Disney does robotics. Louis is so complicated that his head moves with the detail and precision we normally see in finger movements. It’s crazy how precise and detailed each piece has to be!

It’s awesome they managed to balance 3D cartoon style while sticking to the source material, the fluidity of the animimatronics, all without accidentally going into an uncanny valley. I think this style of animatronic, fluid but not super realistic is probably what people should stick with, it makes the most sense for android purposes.

I love how they kept the proportions and features accurate to their animated versions. It keeps them from looking uncanny. Mama Odie is easily my favorite! As terrifying as kids find him, I do wish Doctor Facilier was included in the ride too.

I'm glad they brought back proper animatronics, I remember the last time I went to Disney back in 2018 several of the animatronics had the traditional animatronic bodies but these screen projected faces that were just super uncanny, especially the frozen ride.

You gotta check out the behind the scenes videos of the beauty and the beast and the airel rides in Japan, they use a lot of the T1000 animatronics, also I'm pretty sure they used the knowledge from building ursula for Mama Odie.

I’m being nit picky but oh well, that’s not what the “uncanny valley” means. Uncanny valley is when something that isn’t human looks too much like a human, for some people it will physically make them feel sick. Our brains can tell that what we’re looking at isn’t a human, and it doesn’t like how much it looks like one. Shitty robots, while potentially creepier don’t fall into uncanny valley because our brains can easily tell “that thing isn’t a human”. Personally, Mama Odie did definitely make my stomach turn due to UV. She looks amazing, and my brain doesn’t like that 😂

The problem is they're making the ride inspired by a somewhat racist film into one that represents the only black disney princess. It's probably a change for the better overall, it just- leaves a sour taste in the mouth when t h a t is the one they chose to throw Tiana at. As though they're trying to cover up and brush off the error.

When I figured out Splash Mountain was being replaced by a Princess and the Frog ride, I was disheartened, since SM was my entire childhood. My favorite ride at Disney. But they've nailed everything so good that I'm happy to say I think with just what I've seen, I'm going to like Tiana's Bayou Adventure even more than Splash Mountain!!

“looks so real” it is real :) they really created it. It really physically exists and moves as seen here. For a portrayal of an animated character, yes, it looks real. Like the art came to life. But not like a real person

I just hope they keep up with these Animatronics. Ariel used to be smooth a fluid, not quite to this extent but they let her go. She just sits there her mouth barely even moves anymore.
