Hi Guido, I used to work on German air cooled cars and wish I had the diagnostic tools that come with your plane! But I have no hands-on experience with aircraft. Getting all the cylinders to pull equally usually added up to the sweetest running engines. You might ask Mooney or some racers their opinion. The simplest cure that happens in cars is to clean dirty injectors by running fuel conditioner/injector cleaner like Techron in the fuel. Auto gas tends to clog them slightly making the spray vary like a can of spray paint, fine spray when new, blows out coarser spray with gobs when old. I assume the same is true of AVGAS. The fine spray burns clean, the bad spray burns incompletely creating a leaner mixture and sometimes the carbon pits the valve seats. Poor running tends to soot+up the exhaust and perhaps cause some degree of spark knock. A lean cylinder should improve with richening the mixture. And as you say, It could also be all or in part poor ducting. But Mooney has been making planes for a very long time, they should have it right. A little fiddling with the mixture costs nothing and fixing a problem may gain you a few GPH. Good luck with your past-time!

Hey Guido. Amazing video as always. I just had one question. You were originally cleared to 180, but when you checked in with Scottish control, you read that you were climbing to 160. Was that part of your flight plan and they originally cleared you of traffic up to 180 or was that an oversight?

Hallo Guido! Awesome videos, very instructional. Just a question: why do you retract the gear immediately after lift-off? I was taught when flying SEP complex, to wait until there is no more usable runway ahead before retracting the gear (I guess in case of engine failure you can land back down).
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
You have a good point here. Difficult to judge, what "sufficient runway" in an accelerating aircraft means. I personally retract early, have a full understanding for different thoughts too. Similar situation is: you you fly an approach as such that you can reach the runway after an engine failure. Probably not. Happy Landings, Guido

Thanks Guido Warnecke, once again, because through your videos I can learn more about aviation (I am a pilot), and I can see amazing scenes, like this Catalina (PBY) that you parked next in Reykjavik. In the 60's and 70's the Brazilian Air Force used these aircraft to support the population in the Amazon region including the indigenous people. I lived in a city in the state of Pará (SBAA) from 1964 to 1974 and at this time I flew a lot in PBY and DC-3 of the Brazilian Air Force (I was not a pilot yet), good memories. When I became a pilot, I went flying in the jungle (SBIH) in a gold mining region (Piper Navajo, PA-31). I also flew 50 hours (as a co-pilot) on a DC-3. God bless you Guido ...

Hey Guido ! This one is neat ! And the quality of the video is outstanding !! Plus adding all those pictures of the cockpit items you use is getting greater ! thanks for all the efforts you put in those videos ! I clearly have to get better on my vids ! and that's what i like with you, somehow, you push me forward to get more professionnal when i fly. And also, i'm freshly qualified night VFR :) and it is awesome. To end this, like always, i have a question for you :p Normally wouldn't you prefer to set a speed setting on PA climb instead of a VS ? i don't know why, but i think on the ATPL theory, they are teaching us this, coz then the PA could then "chase" the v/s, therefor loose the speed, which is not good obviously. Am i wrong on this ? ( a wild guess is that there is no A/T on the mooney, and that if you are looking out and reducing v/s along the climb, it's ok) Anyhow, good to see you, and take care of yourself on those ferry flights over there ! Misha
@GuidoWarnecke8 жыл бұрын
+Suma_ket Thank you, Misha! Congrats on the night VFR and any license / endorsement that comes after this. Autopilot: if you climb on vertical speed mode, you have to be very careful to control the airspeed. In some aicraft, like the new C182T, I use the "indicated airspeed" (FLC) mode a lot. Some autopilots struggle to maintain a selected airspeed though. Some autopilots don't even have this function. Happy Landings, Guido

Hello Guido, I am enjoying your videos. Although, I have to ask why you did't don your gumby suit on the crossing? As I was ferrying a PC12, our route of flight was LSMV-LSZB-EGPK-BIRK-CYYR-CYBT-KBJC. Specifically between EGPK-BIRK-CYYR we were in full suits just in case of the slim chance of a PT6 failing. I would think trying to put on the suit in a small cockpit such as the Mooney would prove to be near impossible. What was your plan in case of an engine failure?

Love this video. Flying a Mooney is more related to my personal flying (renting 172 and 182RGs) than a busjet or King Air. There is always something to learn from your videos. This time meticulous engine management and "precedural service" which I haven't come across here in the US yet. I have also never used speed brakes. Was surprised to see them used on short final. Sir, do naturally-aspirated piston-engine aircraft tend to cause piston ring flutter when cruising at long periods at altitude with manifold pressure lower (let say 11,000 ft ISA or warmer less than 20 in Hg) of what is recommended in the POH during cruise?

I just want to let you know that I love, love, love watching these. I've been a "wannabe" pilot all my life, but the opportunities have just never arisen, for many reasons. I "play" some flight simulator from time to time, but it's still not quite the same :) Seeing the real thing that you do is very refreshing, informative, and pure fun for me. Thank you.

Nice flying - but there is too much static interference on the radio. How do you not get a headache?
@GuidoWarnecke9 жыл бұрын
+Enthusiastic Coder Thank you! I think the static noise is a result of the audio connection to the camera. Much better in the cockpit. Happy Landings, Guido

Silly question, when wearing the cannula in the nose, what happens if you start breathing through the mouth at high altitude?

Your videos are really awesome. When you fly this manu different types of aircraft, do you use mnemonic/checklists like GUMPS/CIGARS etc. or can you remember all the different flows and memory items across the different types?
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
I am a great friend of ch lists, even if they are simple. For the smaller aircraft with fixed gear I have generic checklist, for the larger aircraft I use the manufacturer's checklist. Easy to forget something. Sometimes you can forget something like to lower the landing gear. Estimates are that 50% of the wheel up landings are caused by pilot error and not technical problems. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@kch20053 жыл бұрын
@@GuidoWarnecke thanks for your answer. Have you made your own generic checklist for smaller simple A/C? I agree that checklists are our friend. In some of the aircrafts I fly I need to remember to change tanks But this os not in a checklist. Other A/C’s have very incomplete so maybe a generic self made would be a great idea. Then I always have my own? In UK a lot of pilots do a FREDA check in Cruise. To remember: Fuel, Radios, Engine, DI, Altimeter.
@MikeKobb8 жыл бұрын
Guido, you always seem to have really nice laminated checklists. Do you make your own?
@GuidoWarnecke8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Kobb Yes, I do. Mike. One has to be careful however to "design" on own checklist. I use the manufacturer's list and just make it better to read. Happy Landings, Guido

why ferry an american airplane back to America ? - just buy one there and save the ferry..

Why did the Reykjavik tower call a go around for the other aircraft at around 13:00?
@GuidoWarnecke9 жыл бұрын
+Jaccoob233 Thank you! i am not 100% sure, but I assume that the spacing was too small. Another option might be that tower wanted to get the Jetstream aircraft that was holding short of runway 01 on the way. You see the aircraft when I was on short final on the video. Happy Landings, Guido

instead of watching the checklist you should call out the checklist item it will be good for you 👍🏻
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
In a single pilot environment there are different philosophies about checklists and their use. I elected to read the checklist silently (as a backup of my memory items). Other pilots may do it differently. I do call outs "to myself" for certain items on the checklist flow. "say-look-touch". Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Do you need a lot of survival equipment when going over large amounts of water? I see your wearing a wet suit
@GuidoWarnecke8 жыл бұрын
+Keith Sewell Yes, you do, Keith. Without an immersion suit, you don't even need a raft, because you will not make it in the cold water. It's a raft, Immersion suit, satellite based emergency locator. Happy Landings, Guido
