Mesmer is definitely playable and good, but it just requires more effort to achieve the same result as playing something like Necro or Guardian.

Occasionally, I fall into the illusion that I might actually be able to pvp on my mesmer. But then I watch something like @1:15 and I realize I could never A) be the rev and know exactly when to blind (unless he was just lucky?); or B) Be the mesmer and realize I'd been blinded and react accordingly. It's all too fast for an old guy like me. It's a shame, as I do love the pvp!

Hey, I feel the same but I'm not old. Ultimately, I believe the difference here is that Vallun has played around 30k PvP matches over the decade since GW2 released. Imagine if you played the class you really like for just 5000 games, looking for challenges, going against struggles, reflecting on mistakes and opportunities here and there. I'd bet you'd end up learning and noticing things like specific blinds from other classes and from yourself on their critical attacks. You would need to learn more about every class but that's because you need to know your enemy. Vallun has done a great job fast-tracking that for us with his "how to counter" videos.

@@tworadon Excellent points. I still wonder, despite it being my favorite class, if mesmer is a class I could ever do well on in pvp, as it appears to be much less forgiving than others. But, it's also probably premature of me to decide it is without playing many more matches.

Can someone explain to me how a mesmer does a ranger leap, and does a revenant staff twirl? Because there were several times that Vallun did moves during this video that I swear had absolutely no utility or weapon activation.

one is a roamer the other is a duelist, depends on the current meta which is better but at the moment the roamer is better

Can you use this with a scepter instead of sword?

no because you need infinite horizon to make scepter work, but then you wont have any cleanses, would require an entirely new build

For Mirage every time they dodge (and other skills give them this effect) they "distort" which makes them invulnerable (for like 1s I think), while in this state their auto attack (weapon skill 1, the left most skill on the bar) turns into a "ambush" skill, the sword skill 1 ambush skill is that lunging leap you see being done (it also dazes if you hit a target).

Thanks for the videos, learning a lot! Is their any viability to scepter instead of sword? I like the idea of putting out a lot of confusion with scepter but it just doesn’t seem to get me results. Probably user error

yes but only with infinite horizon on a tankier build with other cleanses

@@Vallun funny you say that, over the last couple of days, I switched it up and have been playing with Carrion amulet and traveller runes with infinite horizon and chaotic interruption for the last few days. My thought was to not shatter unless its for f4 and instead utilize ambushes. Using scepter 2 and then its ambush after an interrupt has been working really well. Thanks for the tips 🙏🏻
