A big thing about GW2 is that it doesn't require a game time subscription. The base game is free and the expansions are one-time purchases. Once you've got it, it's permanent. I sometimes check out other MMOs but I always come back to do the new content in GW2 because why wouldn't I? It's always there for me.
@wiziek

Expansions content patches are a bit mixed because you need to log in during 2 weeks (wrote 2 hours before by mistake) of release of this content patch to get it for free, else you need to buy it for gems (option of converting gold to gems) or money. On the bright side you can unlock them passively with login even without expansion.

Its a great game with sooooo much content. Glad you are liking it. My most favorite thing besides story is that there is no gear grind, trading post exotic gear is good for everything in the game but a very specific high level small scale dungeon mode (you can raid and get legendary rings and armor with exotic gear). The highest level gear in the game is only 5% boost in stats compared to the exotic versions.

But world map completion grants (and sets a limit) on important materials for legendaries, you get basically two per character with world completion so you cant short cut that. Although I take the point that they could run that mechanic and leave the waypoints unlocked on account basis

@@HexPhoenix Well, if you don't throw away your gold, you can covert to gems and then buy waypoint unlocks per character in the gem store. Since GW2 is a free to play after purchase, I spend about $15 per month on gems anyway because I feel it's good to support the game. One of the things I love most about GW2 is how each class plays so differently depending on which allowed weapon is in use. Mesmer's Broadsword is maybe one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen (and it slaps enemies, too). The dodge mechanic is pretty sweet, as well. I'm mainly a FFXIV player, so I was very much not used to being able to dodge AoEs without fleeing the danger zone outright before I got into GW2. I enjoy the storylines in GW2, even if they aren't always _quite_ as deep as the ones in XIV. The voice acting and writing is generally pretty fun. That ONE CHARR who loves apples is one of my favorite MMO characters ever... he's such a fun fellow! I went with FFXIV after that and have enjoyed the hell out of that game, but I did occasionally think of GW2 in the back of my head, not sure how well that game has done over all these years. The game has been steadily growing (albeit quite slow imho) over the years and have gotten some pretty good updates and is a solid choice for an MMO to play whether new or not. I myself have been through the process of dropping it for a bit then picking it up again after some time. Overall it's a great underrated game to just kill some time and have fun, though it must be said that isnt perfect and has cons like any other MMO. GW2 has been my main (and often times the only) MMO for about 8 years now (couldnt get back into WoW with its constant rush to catch up to the newest arbitraty systems and grinds each patch).

I was skeptical about going back since Path of Fire was an amazing expansion story and mount addition wise; I felt like it'll be hard to keep that standard. Boats and fishing really didn't feel as impactful and interesting as mounts did to me. You however managed to remind me why i loved this game to bits in the first place - the world, the story, the characters, the fashion wars, the emersion i felt while traversing the world. Beleive me, if you play GW2 and ignore EoD existence, you are fine. EoD gives nothing important for the game to be played. Nothing special like Gliding or mounts. The Jade Bot is character bound so you need to either spend thousands of gold, or play the story on EVERY single alt. The E-specs are not as good as previous ones. The game is perfectly awesome and fine to play forever, without ever knowing EoD is a thing. Skiff is better then the boat too. and the EoD story is garbage.
@mebrandonb
@mebrandonb 2 жыл бұрын
@@Goremize Your personal opinions of the story aside, everything you said about the jade bot isn't accurate. You don't have to play through the entire story for a jade bot on an alt if you want a free core for one, just get to the 2nd map. The jade bot is a mastery so it's unlocked for every alt regardless of if you do the story or not. If you don't intend to play through the story at all, even up to that point, then you can just buy a tier 1 core on the trading post, which isn't THOUSANDS of gold it's currently 2 gold. The elite specs are hit and miss, but there are some that shine depending on the content you are doing. Vindicators are basically devils in pvp currently, and heal mechanist is exceptionally strong for content such as raids or strikes. Circling back to the story, I actually thought it was really strong and I haven't encountered anyone else that even came remotely close to thinking it was garbage. Even people upset over the whole DE/turtle drama admit they do like the story.

GW2 was my first MMO and my first Collectors edition, it will forever have a spot in my heart though it is hard to come back to as its impossible for the story to live up to something like FFXIV which is what I enjoy most in mmos, but in terms of open world content GW2 was some of the most fun I had just wasting hours away clearing out achievements and the such. And it still has some of the best systems in mmos IMO, The mounts and transmog are great and the combat is the most satisfying mmo combat to me personally cant wait to hopefully have the funds to get a computer that can run it and get the expansion

The best part for me is no endless gear grind treadmill. No more having your hard earned gear turn obsolete every time there's a new content release. Just a quick note though, unlike other MMOs when new content comes out, or a new expansion comes out, the previous content and expansions don't automatically become obsolete. If you're a new player don't bring that traditional MMO mindset with you thinking that you have to get into the latest expansion now because all previous content and expansions are obsolete in terms of drops, rewards, gear, mobs, bosses etc..... they aren't, they're just as current as the latest release. And lastly there's absolute no need to rush through the storyline to get to the end ASAP thinking that you'll miss out on something by not being there, you won't, there's no hurry at all to complete anything.

Guild Wars 2 could put all the other MMOs to shame if they just focused more on endgame content. My main issue with the game is that you are encouraged to play brainless open world meta events while litteraly afking on the map rather than engaging challenging content like CM fractals or raids
@zeri7835
@zeri7835 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they're taking the steps in the right direction with harder meta events (and actually teaching us mechanics) like the controversial one we have and with the strikes we're getting (still hoping for better rewards on the CM). And as seen with that controversial meta map, there's obvious splits in the community between people who know the meta and knows the game well in terms of combat and those who are just doing whatever build in the open world and honestly probably barely touched the dodge button or just panic spammed it. Endgame content helps yes, but it's not the sole solution to make the game better, as seen in FF14, there aren't as many raiders as you think, since raids take a long time to set up and not everyone has the time- Most from what I've seen is that it just felt like a chat room or a hang out place in FF14 and if anything, the raids are just one of many side things to do in the game. It differs from person to person in general of what content is for you.

I've been playing GW2 almost continuously since 2014, sometimes intensely, sometimes less intensely and all my other games I`ve played so far run more casually as a variety, but apart from Elden Ring with its amazing new concept no other game has so far inspired and captivated me as much as GW2. My participation in GW2 fashion war is mostly that I let my characters walk around in the simplest outfit without any shiny blink blink or any effects, at first glance they look like I just started playing the game ... but of course they are very well equipped and use effective builds ... with this and with my matching playstyle I keep surprising other players, especially the so-called "real heroes" in their shiny outfits ... and because I like to go solo in GW2 and my open world builds are mostly created towards that, these "heroes" are always surprised when I attack bosses on the maps, especially in group events, directly without hesitation and without waiting for additional players and this a special extra fun for me, I like playing "Monster Hunter" in GW2 😉

Is it worth playing? That depends. If you're a pvp'r? If you're willing to shell out some (or a LOT of cash) cash for the cash shop gems? Sure. Otherwise? I'd say no. Yes, the base game is free and SOME of the expansion packs are one-time purchases. OTHER expansions you need to buy gems from the cash shop to unlock EVEN IF YOU BOUGHT THE OTHER EXPANSIONS. As for the game? It can be maddening. You'll be googling a LOT, to find things/areas, to find out how to do jumping puzzles, etc. The story boss mechanics are TOTALLY screwed with many of them having "invulnerability" mechanics until you "figure out" how to take that down.... while you run in a circle... trying not to die... because YOU don't have invulnerability. Seriously. I've now run into quite a few "quit moments" in GW2.... JUST from the gameplay. Insta-respawn of mobs, and I do mean instant, making some areas of the game a total grind JUST to get through. Cave areas that aren't shown fully on your map, while overland areas are, making some areas a total grind to get through as mobs randomly just insta-respawn. Skills on timers that are way out of sync with how much time you get from the skill (as in, a skill might give you 6 seconds of (insert here) and be on a 30 second timer cooldown). You can't even GET a mount to make travel faster unless you bought one of the expansion packs. Aggro in the game is way messed up, just go look at the games wiki on "aggro" to see how bad that is. It's a 10 yr old game, and the devs are STILL trying "balance" gameplay for CORE classes in PVE, much less PVP. Fast travel is totally borked because waypoint nodes get put under "contest", constantly, making you unable to fast travel TO that node, forcing you to go to another waypoint and run across the map... and at times, MANY of the waypoint nodes are under "contest" at the same time... so good luck running across the map... repeatedly. That doesn't even take into account that the legendary gear gen 2 is locked behind pvp. That's right. Want to craft the best gear in the game? Well, F you, go pvp. Otherwise. F you says the devs. Gen 1 legendary gear you CAN buy on their in-game trading post... IF you care to shell out over $200 in real world cash for enough cash store gems to convert into ingame gold to afford ONE PIECE of legendary gen 1 gear being sold on the ingame trading post. Otherwise, you are locked into a certain tier of gear, by no means the best gear/weapons in the game, and, that's it. That's all you get. Seriously. If you're not a pvp'r, and not willing to fork out a lot of cash, I'd skip this game. If you are? Eh. Your call. It's irritating as hell most of the time. So, my conclusion? The devs have decided to murder their game and drive off any but the most dedicated of players.

I'll give one example of just how irritating the dev's have made their game. In one map area, there is an event (the game's version of quest to get xp) where you play a cannon mini-game. In the area where the cannon's are located are ALSO mobs. That aggro onto you. AS you're playing the mini-game to try and complete enough of the event meter to finish. So, you run in, kills mobs, and you interact with the cannon, start the mini-game... and oh, you're being attacked because that mob respawned... so you exit the mini-game, kill mob, go back into mini-game. You get a little in your meter. You go back into mini-game, mob has respawned again, you are attacked, you exit mini-game, kill mob. You do this... not once... or twice... but about 10 times. Entering mini--game, get attacked, leave, kill mob, re-enter mini-game, get some of the meter filled, and rinse, repeat, over and over, to finish ONE event heart (ie, quest). Why? WHY would the dev's make mobs spawn in the area where you have to do a mini-game cannon puzzle? JUST to piss off players? TO make the game annoying as possible to play? WHY DEV'S? Was THIS your game design?

Stats you want to check, weapon types. All of that is involved it your combat and that's not even all of it. You have conditions and boons to consider too. You can dodge but also block AoE's. I wish they stepped up their graphics game a notch, not only via skins :( Models/lighting look quite sub-par these years, not even talking about flat surfaces everywhere.

I just love enjoying one of the best combats in the genre and matching even the play style with my fashion game. Like training my willbender and making him look like a demon hunter so it feels like i'm playing illidan, you can do that with all the variety even un gameplay with the élite specs but still not feel overwhelmed by the variety like in other games

While gw2 is by far my favorite game ever, I’m finding myself disappointed with this latest expac. One thing I always enjoyed about gw2/anet is their originality and innovation in all areas of the game, especially their expansions. This one however, lacks that. There is so much recycled content it feels like a wow “expansion”. The elite specs are overall not well designed and are all fairly lackluster in some way, ( either boring and uninteresting mechanics or visuals effects, recycled animations, or lack of synergy between the skills and the traits, or inconsistencies with the class/game world lore and themes, etc). It’s still fun, and the environments are as beautiful visually as always. But overall, this expansion didn’t live up to the standards anet has set for itself in past expansions.

They had a chance to create something special like the first two expansions. Going back to cantha was a mistake and this feels like wow's mist of pandaria. The areas are beautifully designed, but hollow and empty. It reminds me of the china ghost cities. After this colossal blunder, I wouldn't wait four and a half years for the next one to drop.

@@rickyo56 the fact that we went back to cantha doesn't explain the bad elite specs though. I main warrior for years and when i tried bladesworn i was like.. that this spec was made by someone who was SUPER stoned.

Oh boy, nobody tell him that the Wardrobe tab on the bank shows you (almost) every skin to exist in this game, he might get lost for a while there xD

Ah yes, the annual sponsored "First Impressions" video for a game you've been playing on and off since it released nearly a decade ago.

You know you need 300+ hrs to have an account similar to his? Considering the amount of different games peon plays, it's far more than just for a sponsor clearly.

The only con for me atm, is they need to show the Zip lines and their pathing on the maps so we can plan how to get to the higher points in the zone

He got sponsored so none of this is his real opinions. Even if he thinks like that and he really loves it, why wouldn't he play it more and daily basis? Simple, cuz he doesn't like it as much as he says since he's sponsored. I don't have trouble with that but don't u guys think it's that good as he keeps saying it is cuz it's SPONSORED.

Peon... I indeed tried to jump off of the airship and soar to the next. I also jumped to an airship with Mai Trin and had to restart due to every other airship moving too far away. Lmao
