What I love the most about Prophecies, is that the PC wasnt portrayed as the main character. You were just another soldier, swept up by the events that ranspired. Granted, as the story progressed, you became a more integral part of the story, but I never felt like I was the main character. Personally, I think this is something that GW2 doesnt do as well. They try to focus on creating your personal story, but it feels haphazard and clunky to me.
@WoodenPotatoes10 жыл бұрын
Cleverbird I agree. I always enjoyed this and I don't need to be the be all end all!
@Loyal_Lion9 жыл бұрын
+Cleverbird It is kind of an open problem in MMOs. Being some faceless grunt is not all that appealing to most people, so typically the "single player" quest lines will cast you as the epic hero. So every character in GW2 is the head of the alliance/Pact. Yeah, it is a bit clunky and ridiculous, but I'm not sure the alternative works all that well.
@encycl07pedia-8 жыл бұрын
What I loved the most about Prophecies was the story, skill quests, and Pre-searing. The geography was freaking terrible, though- hard to navigate, lots of places pretty hard to access, invisible walls, and just far too huge.
@Rayalot727 жыл бұрын
Personally I feel like they did make you the main character, but it felt more deserved since you start out faceless and don't expect to be all that important, leading up to you saving the world because you wanted to help your own people.
@JenEssitBroughman4 жыл бұрын
This is why I felt it would have been better if Ascalon was still standing where the player character destroys the searing calduron in that vanguard mission after killing the charr shamans protecting it.
@dicio400110 жыл бұрын
GW1 was the GoT of MMO's. It kicked you in the butt by firstly killing off your whole starting kingdom, then tearing up you political elite and then killing the prince you followed. Basically you were a poor refugee in a foreign land with your former enemy (Kryta) the only one to help. It really did take you on a journey and the way you summed it up in this video makes it obvious, it was actually an original and well thought out chain of events/story. The later game granted, went into tropes a little and made you "the chosen hero" type of person.
@encycl07pedia-8 жыл бұрын
+sekai desu You should use Heroes. They're basically henchmen with better AI, customizable, and controllable. You can get them with Eye of the North or Nightfall. Heroes are pretty freaking awesome, too.

Nostalgia galore!! These illustrations really captured the feel of the first game. Being a staunch supporter of Guild Wars since the Alpha, the game has been a part of my life for well over a decade. Although I love #GW2, I feel Prophecies had a more serious tone and captured the feel of its environments better. There was magic in exploring. #nostalgiagoggles #guildwars #guildwars2

These are fantastic.. I played GW1 casually when it came out and did Nightfall as well but was never able to get into or really get a good grasp of the lore. Now that I'm getting back into GW2 and having a good time I just looked up the lore to get some idea and this is perfect.. More of these going forward would rock!

The summary videos actually don't make me want to skip the let's play prophecies but only make me want to delve deeper into it! Thank you so much for these. I've got a guild from an aging MMO, and many of us have decided to meet again in GW2. But I think I may be the only one among us that has played through GW1 (and even then, only recently; I've just now started the GW:Beyond series). But these videos are helping them get caught up and familiar with (and excited about) the history of Tyria. Keep up the good work, sir. I look forward to the next. :)
