that would be cool, though i think they need to improve the design before they try that, it will just get bound up in the gap either side of the blade. they need a tight amount of clearance so theres nowhere for thing to get dragged down and stop the blade.

The stopping mechanism for the guillotine can be improved by making the release cable a fixed length metal rope strong enough to withstand the total "Work" of the Guillotine at the point of impact. > Work = Mass(kg) * Gravity(9.8m/s^2) * Height(meters) Just make sure the frame is built strong enough to absorb the impact. There are ways to soften the impact as well, so it doesn't eventually start warping the frame. That can be through heavy duty springs to spread out some of the final impact force, or by adding some friction to the track at the end by tapering it inward and changing the material to something like rubber. (If you just taper it using a hard material, it will just be spreading all that absorbed impact to the frame). Keep the rubber at the bottom in place for safety, but consider cutting out a slot for the blade to go into so the thicker part of the blade is absorbing the impact, not the sharp tip.
@zodix44

I thought the same

They could possibly cut a strip of rubber and place some seriously stiff springs as you said before beneath to cut down the impact

I cannot be the only one who has thought of a wetstone friction system to be placed at the bottom in a V shape mirroring the blade on pivots with heavy duty springs pressing the two stones together. This would function both as a friction braking system directly on the blade and would preserve the edge of the blade by honing it on every pass... maybe it’s too complicated or brittle but I’ve seen this with a sword sheath

@conniescurse7325

I feel like there are a few keys things keeping back the efficiency of your Guillotine. 1. You should build guards that enclose the rail system to stop jams and further frame the Guillotine, keeping things more stable. The rails shouldn't be exposed and the blade should cross the entire cutting area. 2. Due to the shape of a Guillotine blade being so angled, things that are hitting it are going to move towards the lower end of the blade, which will cause jams, and just a general loss of energy. Notice how on a normal Guillotine there's the hole that your head goes in, to keep the striking point firmly in place letting all of the potential energy be used to cut through the neck. I know things aren't so simple since the things you cut are different every time, but you should make an effort to keep them still.

When reforging the gilltine make the stopper on the rail slide, not the blade, so it doesn’t wear out the rubber as much and you can push the benches closer nullifying the “suck-down” effect

What they should do is test out multiple items so they know the likely result, and then have either guests from other channels or just corridor coworkers pick one thing off the list of items as something they think either will or won't survive. And if they get it wrong they have to watch something of their own face the guillotine. Or maybe just something they enjoy. Ie Sam likes playing the guitar so if he's wrong they chop a guitar in half. Or Niko who likes archery if he's wrong they chop a bow in half.
