To add to the point about Rukia beating Aaronierro, every memory that Kaien ever had was used against Rukia. The 3rd dance of her shikai was an ability Kaien had never seen before, as she only mastered this ability after he died. Aaronierro lost because Rukia had kept moving forward, and was able to grow as a person after Kaien’s death, her new ability symbolizing her growth as a character from where she once was. Ps: I’m so glad you said so far, you’re going to need to be mentally prepared for at least one more espada.

^This. This is a subtle point too many people miss...anyone who criticizes the way Rukia wins this fight has missed this crucial point. Aaronierro was supremely overconfident because he thought he fully knew Rukia through Kaien Shiba's memories. But Rukia has long been separated from Kaien by this point and learned quite a lot. She demonstrates that with her double incantation, and Aaronierro does note he doesn't remember her capable of that...but even with that forewarning he was incredibly overconfident and didn't imagine Rukia could have a power like the 3rd Dance she had mastered since Kaien's death. That's part of the danger of thinking you know your enemy

Indeed. It makes his later impersonation all the more sick and twisted on Aaronierros part. Especially the initial 'pretend sparring' followed by the request to murder her friends.

@@manuelacosta9463 Yes. Aaronierro is one of the most vile villains of the Arrancar arc. Him being the lowest ranked Espada and mainly leaning on the tactic of manipulating others, makes him eerily similar to the likes of the early Hollows like Shrieker, in a effective way. His Eldritch character design is also very memorable.

Aaronierros twisted impersonation is among the more subtle yet darkest elements of this portion of the saga. Rukia underwent an emotional rollercoaster and undoubtedly PTSD from that night. Good on her to snap out of it and purge the fake 'Kaein' and keep the memory of the good lad alive.

Retraumatizing Rukia and making her kill Kaien AGAIN.... Is one of the cruelest, most beautifully executed tragedies and character moments in Bleach imo.

A disturbing thought that Aaroniero's explanation implies is that Kaien might have actually overpowered Metastacia's will and become the dominant mind in the body. Aaroniero says they have devoured 33,650 hollows and gained their powers. Metastacia's powers were spirit body fusion, zanpakuto destruction, and the ability to respawn in Hueco Mundo after death (Aaroniero seemingly possessed none of these abilities, only Kaien's). When Metastacia died and respawned back in Hueco Mundo, it unintentionally brought Kaien's soul back with it since it was still fused with his spirit body when it died, losing the battle for control of its new reformed spirit body to Kaien. Kaien was then devoured by Aaroniero. Poor Kaien; the man could not catch a break.

One theory I've seen regarding why Aaroniero looks the way he does is that he was a pair of twins that died in the womb, hence why his "heads' aren't able to survive outside their container.

Well for all we know Hell Verse isn't canon. The only people that are CONFIRMED in hell are the ones we see and that are mentioned in the One Shot NBFH.

Rukia's thoughts about Orihime highlight the true greatness of the Arrancar arc, which some think of as a weakness but is really its great strength. Many dismiss it as a sub-par arc that's just a rehash of the Soul Society arc--a girl has been captured, we go into enemy territory to save her. But the differences are a mix of subtle and not-so-subtle contrasts with that earlier arc that make them both stand out more. The Soul Society was 'the enemy' to a degree, but as we discovered, some terrible governorship in the Seireitei aside, these guys they were fighting were actually the good guys, just deceived into standing against our heroes. But this time we've gone into the true enemy's lair, and although we've found a few sympathetic allies, we've already learned this isn't going to be 'defeat means friendship' of the Soul Society arc--the Dordonni battle showed Ichigo couldn't just heal his enemies after his fight and expect to make friends as he had before. Every enemy they faced was truly in a kill-or-be-killed mindset against the invaders. And crucially, in the Soul Society arc it was Ichigo's mission. Chad and Orihime were along because they were his friends and Uryu mostly just wanted to beat the Soul Reapers and keep on that 'prove himself stronger' bit. Their attachment to Rukia wasn't as great. But Orihime by this time is much closer to all of them, and Rukia in particular, as she expresses here, is determined to save her because not only is she a friend she made over this time, she alone can, because of her experience in the Soul Society arc, sympathize with Orihime in a way no one was able to sympathize with her before. Boiled down to bare bones, it's a 'rehash' plot--go into enemy territory with small crew, save the girl against all odds. But no story is fairly judged or properly appreciated by its basest summary. It's the little things that differentiate the two and make them both greater for the contrasts in their situations.

Reminder that Aaronierro was the only Gillion class espada, and honestly with that insane ability to gain all the powers of people he absorbs, you can see why even being a gillion, he still made it into the espadas ranks.

I really appreciate that you actually take the time to analyze the psychological aspect of Bleach. I often hear people complain about how 'bleach is only cool fights' and the certain characters have no depth or personality, and I can't help but wonder if we read/watched the same thing. Kubo shines the most in the way his art (the paneling, specially) shows how the characters feel or the symbolism behind certain moments. It kind of reminds me of how people can look at a painting and only glance at it once, then say they understand it. In reality, there's details inside that painting that contextualize what it really is about, or at least one of its possible interpretations. Art can express so much, it'd be a shame to ignore that. Bleach not only shows character depth in its art, though. The characters actions throughout the story are one thing, but also the poems Kubo writes at the beginning of the chapters are also part of that. The emotions and character relationships are an aspect that makes Bleach such a charming series to me, besides all the cool fights and amazing twists.

The Heart- in the terms put by Kaien! -is an incredibly important theme in Bleach, and will remain so going forward! It'd be very wise to keep that in mind, and I'm super glad that it's struck you as poignant in the way that it is. Good luck with the rest of the series, Agamotto!

This were the chapters that cemented to me that, Rukia is my second favorite character, i have a bit of main character syndrome, so usually if i don't click or have the main protagonist in my top 1 or 3, sooner or later i end up dropping the series (Ichigo is my favoriite character of Bleach and on the top 5 of my favorite characters of all time in fiction). This struggle and this message, it's just beautiful, and i couldn't help but admire and learn from Rukia's strength of character even at her weakest point. I love her, i love Orihime too, and her and Ichigo were always going to be a thing and i love it. But Rukia is my favorite female character of Bleach and this was just the final shoot i needed while reading Bleach to confirm it.

Kubo did it so good because when he removed his mask he tells us he isn't Kaien by stating his real name " I am Espada #9 Aaroniero Arruruerie" but we're still giving the Benefit of the Doubt. Also in the anime he uses hos real voice at first before using Kaien's.

Man if Arronierro had managed to get a Kaien with Bankai in him it would have taken his absorbtion from just about about keeping him as Espada to probably top half, though a higher tier Lieutenant Shikai still is scarier to have in skill set than most regular hollow abilities since thats getting something that can take out Menos Grande. Also the talk of the heart is showing how even how becoming an Arrancar hasn't filled in the loss of humanity (the hole) in some Hollows even a bit, what made Arronierro slip up as he lacked a level of humanity even weaker members of the army got back. Without it his slip ups, both disguse and sadism that got him killed by putting enemy right up to true face, were inveitable.

So on the topic of Aarioniero's potential power levels, the simple fact is I think he's too weak to get stronger. Remember Ichigo had more raw power than Rukia even back in the first arc, he's gotten stronger several times since then, AND Bankai...and still couldn't keep Dordoni down without his Hollow mask. And Dordoni isn't even a proper Espada anymore. Aaroniero may have a bunch of powers, he might be twisted and cunning, but his raw power is just too low. If you gave him Luppi's corpse I doubt he could even "chew" it to absorb his powers.

Absolutely magnificent conclusion you just spoke my mind, Bleach's heart theme is literally one of my favorite things in all media and one that I hold dearly irl in how I view relationships and loss. I dont know if you read Kubo's message after Akira Toriyama's passing, but it was basically this, showing where Kubo's writing is really true to his own philosophy, he may be gone, but his work and heart will always be with us who grew with and enjoyed dragon ball as part of our lives. Congratulations on such a beautiful video! (Ps: english is not my main language and i wrote a lot, sorry about mistakes :p)

Another fact, the chapter that concludes their fight is called "The End Is Near". Which is a quote from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, the author known for his eldritch monsters and cosmic horror, as well as deceiving narration and madness. Which are all themes played around in this fight and Aaroniero's character. His character and ressurection body horror design as well. Then again I'm very pleased to see you've catched up on that as well in your video. I praise again your writing analysis skills a lot.

6:20 The saddest part is that it was true. Hollowfied Kaien reformed in Hueco Mundo, is just that he was eaten by Aaroniero, if it wasn't for Aaroniero he might be alive... so it is specially mocking from Aaroniero to put in this act.

I'm so glad you gave this fight the analysis and love it deserves, its in my top 3 in the series. For some reason most people doing yt reactions just dont have empathy for Rukia and get annoyed at her because she needs 100% confirmation he isn't Kaien and has her resolve shaken because of it. While she goes through some psychological torture this fight, I love how by the end she can win because she remembers how strong their bond was. She stops Aaroniero from continuing to disrespect Kaien's image and finally can put Kaien to rest truly. The heart conversation always makes me emotional and never stops being relevant. "Don't die alone Kuchiki" and "Kaien left his heart with me" are lines that have stayed with me since I first watched the anime, their dynamic is amazing.

I may be an anime only, but from my recollection, the only thing that we saw from kayan was his shikai. It is very uncommon for a lieutenant to have bankai.

The important part of Rukias' fight is not about power, but Bleaches powersystem can sometimes be confusing for people that dont have the full context. So here is some information about the powersystem. *Reiryoku* means "spiritual power" but also relates to "spiritual energy." Reiryoku is the thing which a Quincie/Uryu combines with Reishi to create things, and also the thing which Shinigami channel through their Zanpakuto in Shikai/Bankai to create attacks and generally. All Spiritual beings have a certain amount of Reiryoku. It's worth noting that Reiryoku and Reiatsu are closely related. If somebody has a huge Reiryoku pool, they generally have higher Reiatsu. However, Reiatsu (which is essentially Reiryoku output) can be controlled *Reiatsu* means "spiritual pressure". Reiatsu, like Reiryoku, is slightly ambiguous. While it directly translates as pressure, it's often used interchangeably with the concept of "spiritual energy", and as a result, Reiryoku. Like I said in the Reiryoku section, Reiatsu and Reiryoku are closely related, but not quite the same. *Reishi* Reishi means "spirit particles/matter". Reishi is the thing which objects are made of inside Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. There's also Reishi in the World of the Living, but concentrations are much lower than in the two spiritual worlds. Reishi is essentially the same as Kishi (Physical Matter), which is what objects in the World of the Living are made of. Kishi is a catchall term for atoms in reality. As a result, Reishi most likely has a wide array of elements which make up the term "Reishi" (as in hydrogen, oxygen, sodium, etc). Why am i telling you this? Well its interesting and also because Rukia is weaker than Aaoniero but not massively that she cant hurt him. Also, Reiryoku fluctuates based on mindset as youve seen with Ichigo against Zaraki in SS arc or Ichigo against Yammy. So someone with lower Reiryoku and a high-spirited mindset can defeat someone with higher Reiryoku if he's not strong minded or if it's a surprise attack. Of course, the difference can't be too massive if the much stronger char is prepared

At it's core, Bleach is really about loss and our reaction to it- inward and outward; acceptance and rejection; progression and stagnation. It's a theme present in every strand of the series' DNA: from simple aesthetics to world building, all the way to even the core motivations of almost every major character (including some you'd not expect). Few sets of chapters dial in so keenly as these, however. Some of Kubo's best work- simultaneously morbidly tragic and beautifully hopeful. Even so, Hueco Mundo is just getting started. Buckle up man. These next chapters are gonna be a hell of a ride.

This fight was just one big roller-coaster of emotion. Ironically, this hollow made me love Kaien even more and wish he had been the real thing. Glad you were able to get so much from this. P.S. this is far from the last of the emotional gut punches.

When I first got to Bleach it was still unfinished and by the time I got to the end of the Hueco Mundo arc I have already forgotten a lot of details. I haven't realized it till now and won't spoil the details but there's something in this fight between Rukia and 9 espada, that helps me to understand better to completely different character and their character development. You could in no way known that, but thank you for helping me to see Bleach in a different light.

Kubo hides important stuff in plain light, in this way we, the readers, think "well, this is too obvius, shouldn't be it, maybe is an idea and not some kind of deep correlation". And I say it cuz I taught the same as you about Kaien (not just the hollow). However, when you read Bleach for a second time, everything is there right from the start. Pay attention

It’s quite messed up the deeper you look at it which I think makes it great for both the character and the terrifying predatory nature of hollows and how they hunt. I was really curious about what you think of Arrenierro’s design because it’s so wild. Especially with his ability and how it’s shown through the artwork. Love how much you pick up on as a writer as well as things I myself don’t notice (Gin being the one who led Rukia there). Can’t wait to see your thoughts on the other Arrancar and Hueco Mundo

Rukia vs Aaroniero is probably my 2nd favourite fight of the Arrancar saga, always preferred the emotional fights over the, clash clash i'm stronger fights. glad you enjoyed it :D

Spoiler warning! When he said anyone else wouldn't have much of a connection with Kaien. I do wonder how Ichigo would have reacted to him especially since he doesn't know he's his cousin. But Aizen and I'm sure Gin both know so it would be real messed up if Ichigo had found out his connections to the Shiba clan this way. Also Ichigo had to deal with a similar situation with Grandfisher.

A genuinely love the idea of the hearts presented in bleach by Kubo and how he goes deep into it in Hueco Mundo since they are being who in a sense have no concept of a heart just the aspects of Death they represent compared to soul reapers who are gods of death but oddly have some mastery over the heart I.e Zunpuckto and humans who's heart residents with another person altogether...Keep everythin I said in mind while readin it's enough to go on the lookout for but not enough to give any real picture of what it is I'm sayin

slight correction, that was Kaien's Shikai, not Bankai. a Shikai typically has a release command (howl, grow, turn all things in the universe to ashes) then followed by a name. bankai always starts with the word "Bankai" then the name

About your hollow question, it depends on if you're gonna read the cfyow novels or not. They are considered cannon for now. I have no clue if breaths or Christianing are gonna change this.

All Menos Grande Hollows (Gillians, Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde) are amalgamations of thousands upon thousands of souls, a Gillian is just a mindless thing where none of the souls within are dominant or in control. If one soul in the collective does manage to rise above the rest and become dominant, then it decreases in size and takes on an individualized bestial form, becoming an Adjuchas class. Adjuchas continue to consume more souls, especially other Menos Grande, both to maintain their own elevated state and to attempt to break the barrier and ascend to the highest level, the human sized Vasto Lorde. However, if they fail to maintain their own form, or if part of them is eaten by another, they can never reach that highest level and in the case of the former, once reverted back to a Gillian, that particular Hollow in the collective can never ascend again. In the case of Aaroniero, he was turned into an arrancar from the Gillian stage and was intentionally fed Metastacion once it reformed in Hueco Mundo with the express intent of augmenting his own abilities.
