Losing someone to suicide is the worst. I'm so sorry 😢 I only understand a little bit. I lost a friend who I never even met in person. We met online through our mutual love of hognose snakes. The day I found out she killed herself was heartbreaking. I went Christmas shopping anyway (I was in the parking lot of the store I was going to) and was crying in the store. I live outside of town so I don't get out very often so I didn't want to go back home. I still miss her. It's been a little bit over a year. I can't even imagine how much it hurts if it's a family member. I mean just because we only talked online doesn't mean we weren't real friends but I'm sure it's still different. Man I still miss her and I do feel guilty even though I know I couldn't have done anything but I wish I could have. So I understand that feeling 😢

@youngsheldonfan_00124 күн бұрын
This was heart wrenchingly beautiful. Amanda and James captured their characters’s emotions so well; Amanda is able to shift between numbness and pure guttural sobs and James brings so much depth to his character. Not only does James play this vengeful version of his character in his ex-partner’s guilt-ridden mind but he plays it in such a way that the audience realizes the isn’t the same man from the flashbacks-he’s a manifestation of guilt. The flashback scenes are so wonderfully acted, the somber and happy that can coexist despite depression are well represented. This was not just the work of the actors, but everyone in the crew. This was so well-written and so much trust was put into the actors to make the script a visual reality. The writing and directing were so carefully thought out! I’m not well-versed in film-making but I could appreciate the lighting and how the different shots impacted mood. The close-up shots of Amanda and James during the confrontation highlight the intimacy of the scene but also how ‘off’ this moment is compared to others. As James walks towards Amanda, the slightly angled shot adds to the feeling of instability, that something isn’t quite right, and alludes to the fact that this man is not the same one from the flashbacks. Lastly, the shift from bright lighting in the past to dark in the present sets the tone for this piece so well. It reflects how we often view the past through rose-colored lenses or try to focus solely on the good and the present is plagued by bad memories. When you’re in a depressive episode, everything feels dull and monotone. The last scene where Amanda and Sam are snuggling hits so hard with the dark but slightly blue shading. Life is still dark and painful, but at least she is able to feel the pain rather than suppress it. Color is starting to come back and healing can start with the simple act of not being alone. It’s also such an intimate but real scene. All this to say I loved this short film! There’s so much to appreciate-the thoughtfulness that went into every shot, setting, character choice, etc. There’s so much more I could say-all positive!-but I simply do not have the words to express my thoughts (especially in regards to more behind-the-scenes work)! Thank you for making this available for the public! ♥️

This is gonna get buried, but for anyone who's going through or has gone through a loss like this, it's truly not your fault. There's always gonna be a "well I could've been around more" or "I should've noticed" but never forget that we are all conscious human beings; they could've asked for help, expressed that they were in pain. You aren't psychic, you (probably) aren't trained to read body language, you can't hold it against yourself that someone expected you to be. Life is hard, some people need an extra hand; be that hand when they ask for it. But don't feel guilty when you couldn't have known what someone was hiding behind a smile.

I've lost a few friends to suicide and it sucks. Sometimes it makes you wonder and question yourself at times if you have done enough as a friend. I also have lost a dad who was murdered two years ago and still deal with survivors guilt. The day my dad was assaulted at a store, I made a choice at the last minute to stay home thinking it's no big deal he will be fine and he'll be back home. My dad suffered a traumatic brain bleed and swelling of his brain along with other injuries. He died 5 months later in hospice from sepsis that went to his blood and bones. One out of two people involved were arrested and sentenced. Losing a loved one whether through suicide or murder/homicide makes you question things in life and gives you a whole new perspective of life as a whole.

Friendly reminder that in cases of suicide, it is never your fault that it happened. Sometimes someone's life gets to such a low that they feel taking it is the only way to stop the pain. While trying to get them help is always a good thing, it's never a guarantee that help will work. And you can't blame yourself if it doesn't. Edit: this is not directed at abusers. The fact that I even have to clarify this due to people not using logical thinking is incredibly sad.
@jaspirita21 күн бұрын
This is a bad take. What about someone in an abusive situation? A teenager that kills themselves because their parent emotionally and physically abuses them, that parent has no fault? What about a married couple where one partner is abusive, it's not that person's fault? What about a kid getting bullied at school and online, it's not the bully's fault at all? Accountability for how people treat others needs to exist. To say it's NEVER someone's fault that someone commits suicide is not a good take, and it's victim blaming to say it's only the person who commits suicide's fault that they killed themselves. Sometimes the low they feel IS caused by someone else, and that person that caused the low ABSOLUTELY SHOULD be blamed.
@MoonMoonTM21 күн бұрын
@jaspirita You know damn well that I'm not talking about situations of abuse. Use your brain. This is directed at the people who blame themselves for not being able to do more. The ones who think "if I'd done something more they'd still be here". Like what this video is portraying.
@MoonMoonTM21 күн бұрын
@@jaspirita I'm guessing you didn't even read my full comment honestly. Because abusers don't try to get their victims help.
@jaspirita21 күн бұрын
@MoonMoonTM I did read it completely. I still stand by what I say. You can't make a blanket statement of "it is never your fault". I'm guessing you don't like anybody contradicting you and you feel like you always have to be right, but you are wrong here.
@MoonMoonTM21 күн бұрын
@@jaspirita No, I'm not wrong. Abusers don't seek help for their victims. Full stop. This is a situation that is not about abuse that led to suicide. Keep letting innocent people think it's their fault though I guess. All you have to do is use logical thinking and understand important context clues. It's not hard to understand that I'm not referring to abusers.

Wow. I've watched Amanda for ages on Smosh and this was great. But also very sobering. Having lost three(!!!!) people in my life this way it's made me tear up slightly. I think lots of people will always question themselves if they could have done anything differently. It's how we try to take back control after feeling so helpless and distraught over what happened. I wish I could have done more to prevent it (with all three people). But maybe I'd have never changed the outcome. After the first loss I learned that you have to let go of the 'whys' and the 'if onlys' as these thoughts won't bring them back and only cause more misery.

oooh this hits all the right spots. The way she asks for help, receives support immediately, but the guilt is just there, looking at her. a few more scenes of her not asking about it, or asking without really paying attention to what he was saying, would have been even nicer to save on the dialogue and really make us understand why she felt so guilty. But I really liked how he yanked her phone away from her in the memory - sets it up nicely for the discussion with the guilt.

As I am writing this there are 346 comments, so I'm sure someone said this already. But before James said, "Killed myself." I knew what he was talking about and immediately started tearing up. Because at one point his words were my words. A lot of times people who commit suicide don't convey it until it's too late and more so in men and BPOC. So as much as some might say, "Don't have survivors' guilt." A true loved one will always wonder, "Could I have done more?" But give yourself enough grace and mercy to heal so that you can love again. ❤✌🏾 I love the work Amanda does in these shorts; she is such a great actress.
