We talked with Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi from Arc System Works at EVO 2024 about season 4, including the addition of guest character Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the return of Dizzy and Venom, and whether or not they want to add Instant Kills into Strive.

My theory is that is has to do with the fact that Guilty Gear’s world is one that abandoned technology as we know it… meanwhile Lucy’s world is all about that tech… so maybe they’re going to try to say that Cyberpunk is an alternate reality to Guilty Gear’s? So basically, they cannot do Instant kills because that means they would need to dedicate half a season pass in terms of character to just do that.... So instead of getting 4 characters for a season, we would get 2 for getting Instant kill for that season. My guess, its not gonna happen with Strive. Maybe a new version of the game ? Like a version of the game that has revamped ranking system, new graphics, etc. Maybe then they can justify it budget wise to implement it.

My theory is that they chose lucy instead of david so that they can put it in the new trio game mode, maybe the assist will be david's ability or something alike, or even that you can transform into david that's my best guess.

Lucy is legitimately the better choice. She’s a net runner who is skillful in hand to hand combat with her monowire. David with Sendavistan wouldn’t make much sense for such a game.

I'm confused because how were they able to get instant kills in ggxrd when they didn't have as much experience with the 3d modeling like they do now? How is it an ongoing problem for them to implement?

The game was developed during covid, so instakills were shafted to focus on more important stuff. Now though, it's probably a lack of recourses/time and wanting to focus on more characters first
