I honestly think that Twenty One Pilot‘s best 2 songs are „Jumpsuit“ and „Levitate“ best listened to back to back from the album „Trench“ wich imo is their best Album. But I also think that the Song „Neon Gravestones“ is super impactful at least to me because it‘s about how our culture glorifies su*cide and also the band themselves kinda calling themselves out with that song a bit. Not to mention the fantastic part at the end being: Don't get me wrong, the rise in awareness Is beating a stigma that no longer scares us But for sake of discussion, in spirit of fairness Could we give this some room for a new point of view? And could it be true that some could be tempted To use this mistake as a form of aggression A form of succession, a form of a weapon Thinking "I'll teach them, " well, I'm refusing the lesson It won't resonate in our minds I'm not disrespecting what was left behind Just pleading that it does not get glorified Maybe we swap out what it is that we hold so high Find your grandparents or someone of age Pay some respects for the path that they paved To life they were dedicated Now, that should be celebrated! I mean that always hit me hard. It seems to be a very much overlooked topic and I think it‘s super relevant especially since twentyone pilots themselves are a group that dabble a lot in nihilistic, cryptic and depressive waters while their songs so often play with this stereotypical tone while also burying a really complex message inside their work if you are willing to look deeper into their lore and narrative hidden under all that glamour. Since the stereotypical pop sound of them is literally a part of the lore of this dark place manifacturing soulless music while suffocating and exploiting vulnerable people while said people are trying to free themselves of this exploitative place called Dema. Not to mention also the cryptic things they did around Scaled and Icey like hiding the phrase: „SAI is propaganda“ in an album cover or the Dema resistance logo being used and ofc also ppl mentioning the real title being „scaled back and isolated“ wich is a more fitting title for the time it was written in. And lastly the part of that album title being an anagram for „clancy is de*ad“ wich references the protagonist figure from trench that escaped dema and became a symbol for the resistance. All that is to say that if you put in some amount of interest and look up the lore of that band beyond the surface level, there is a really cool thing behind all that. And the more of this you uncover, the more these music videos and stuff will make you see them so differently from what you‘d perhaps expect before. It‘s a really cool thing imo. Like multimedia but presented kinda in this ARG format where you have to dig through this conspiracy narrative to figure out how this music actually tells a compelling story about mental health issues, social issues, self doubt and other topics the lead singer struggled with in his life.

The thing about SAI by TØP, is that it’s supposed to be a basic pop album. Idk if you keep up with the lore/narrative that takes place throughout the TØP albums (starting from Blurryface and ending with Clancy) but SAI is supposed to be almost a dark night of the soul album. Which doesn’t make sense at first, because it’s a feel good album. Why is it supposed to be a moment of defeat? To oversimplify it, it’s the protagonist, Clancy, becoming complacent to the antagonist of the story, Blurryface aka Nico. You got the album Trench where Clancy is trying to start a revolution and trying to overthrow Nico, but he fails and now Nico is using him to make essentially propaganda music. When you listen to the album with that context, even if you didn’t like it beforehand, you get an entirely different experience and you kinda respect it for its role in the Trench storyline.
