I have bonded thousands of boy guinea pigs. There is so much to it, that one video on two boys is not going be enough to really get a decent grasp of it. I will make a series out of it so you will really become well rounded in your knowledge on the types of personalities that appear in a bonding session and watch a bunch of different males and their different energies and personalities. And we will find the all elusive "Buddha Pig" Buddha pigs are old soul guinea pigs and mentally put together quite well. Never looking for that fight and always calm in the face of adversity and a relentless humper. The gentle and calm energy of a buddha pig will almost always confuse the other boy because that gentle behavior is not expected.

@@BobbyGeee This is normal behaviour. It may look upsetting to humans but for guinea pigs this is just normal submissive behaviour, you'll get this with every introduction. It will most likely calm down once they're together for a while. It's not oppressive it's just the way guinea pigs are.

I love watching the way they interact, the body language, the sounds, going back and forth. I think for a good bonding its a matter of finding 2 boars with the exact same temperament so that neither one is overly dominant or submissive. I think then they just decide to call a truce and live in peace. The little "punch" you mentioned made me laugh because my one girl does that to me when she doesn't like what I'm doing, usually cleaning her cage, she's very possessive of her 💩💩 and gets mad when I take it away. Weirdo.

Seeing this makes it all the more clearer that I made the right choice when I kept 2 of my girls separated from my other girls. The two alpha females went into a full on tussle flying at each other in a fury, and both of them bit the other. I tried a few more times with different approaches but it was clear that they were absolutely out for blood and hated each other. Really sad. However, I have them each in a midwest side by side, with a wooden "fence" between them. They actually lay next to each other sometimes on each side of the fence, which is hilarious. Just don't remove that fence....lol!

I was wondering about this. I recently got 2 sister piggies from the shelter. We built a huge cage, so I want to rescue another girl. I would keep her separate at first, but if I got a young one do you think the chances are good they would become friends? The 2 I have are 8 months old.

I am so lucky, I used to have a male trio that didn't work out (two of the boys were fighting the third one, but they were all completely fine in any kinds of pairs with eachoter) But then hen I had another trio with 3 different male piggies, they never fought. One of them passed, I adopted two more and now I have 4 males together. It's all about their personality.

I had boys only for 5 years now. Did the bonding game countless times. some boys couples lasted for months before falling apart regardless of age some didn't last more than a day and some stays friends forever. Always in large c&c cages with plenty of everything to avoid arguments. One of my single boys, Harry always plays submissive for a week and after that time turns dominant and aggressive, never lasted longer than 2 weeks with any friend. My way for single boys is massive c&c cage split in the middle so each boy can have neighbour to talk to and share meals with while keeping his own territory, All are calm and happy. Good luck with Your piggie bonding and don't give up one them to quickly. Sending loads of love to all L.A. Guinea pigs and their amazing care takers.

I discovered you through the dodo and my mom actually used to teach at a school near your rescue in chatsworth. But my aunt rescues guinea pigs in ridgecrest CA. So i have had little guys like this for years. I just wanted to say thank you for showing people how to care for them and how they are as pets. So many kids get them and don’t treat them well. I seriously loved mine. I had 3 named named Harry Ron and Hermione. I appreciate the time you’ve spent learning about them and the fact you sometimes know more than vets about their behaviors! Keep up the great work and I’m definitely donating to this because you’re doing great work.

:/ they're just animals tho. They act more on animal instinct. If humans (animals) got at their extreme low points, where if you had to kill another one, in order to survive, you'd prob do it too. I'm not trying to be edgy, I'm js. Maybe even cannibalize. Animals are prob on constant survival mode. They only learn how to be more compassionate towards humans, once a human enters their lives. Their instincts only tend to drop more once you put food into the equation. But lucky for you, g. pigs are vegans.

Geo sarks well i had two rabbits so it might be best to ask a vet but from what i know it completely calms their hormones and so they're less likely to attack each other. please do ask though but i would highly recommend however as i said, it's true for bunnies so i don't really know how well they cope under anaesthetic. otherwise, something that is recommended for bonding rabbits is to take them for a drive together as it's quite stressful and they're more likely to use each other as comfort, but again please double check as i don't know how the pigs would handle being in a car. i hope this helped though

So I hope it’s all good! I got them as babies, different litters. I got one and then two days later I got another one and the second I brought the second one home the first ones behavior and personality was super super different and happy, completely perked up! These guys remind me of My boys! Lol kinda anyway.

Would definitely recommend lots of hay and veggies already in the bonding enclosure before putting the pigs together. Two way tunnels, or a place for the submissive pig to kind of back off from the stress periodically throughout the bonding experience is important too.

My oldest male just passed away yesterday, had him put to sleep after battling to get him to eat for a couple days, with nothing to show for it but two sleepless nights of syringe feedings and weight loss and him just lying there passively. He was done. I speculate the pain of his arthritic rear legs was too much to bear. I used the cbd every 3 or 4 hours but he was so locked up he must have hurt a lot. He even dragged his legs a few times and had trouble getting them under his body. The xrays showed the damage in his legs. You could see it. Im gonna misss that guy a lot. For years I started each day by waking to him ringing the bell in the boys side of the pen, for breakfast lettuce. This morning it was silent and that was when I realized how big a part of my life that bell had been. He rang for me each morning, and rang it as soon as i stepped in the house after work. ( And lots of times when I was home!) He had a male friend on his side of the pen, a young fella. The girls are next door seperated by mesh so they can kiss through it, and sometimes have carefully supervised visitations. So this video is perfectly timed, as little Ronnie Red will need a new friend. My impression of boys dwelling together is you need two components. 1 A mismatch in strength, age, or willfull temperment so that one pig agrees the other can be top dog ( top pig?) 2 A gentle temperment in the dominant pig so that they dont use that position to abuse the other pig. #1 you can venture a guess by looking at them before trying....but.... #2 you just dont know until you try, and has to be observed over time. I mean several weeks. So anyway, perfectly timed vid. Ill be taking this up eventually, just need some time to recover from losing my friend. RIP Kirito-San, my little bellringer. I'll always love you.

I had a pair of males years ago and after one died I got the remaining a younger male friend. I just put them together on a blanket and they ate and didn’t even mind each other at all al. Remained best of friends for years. Shared their house too. I have recently got a pair of 2 males who came together, and show more small signs of dominance than the 2 piggies from years back. I suspect it may be because the older one was very big and older so the hierarchy was already set and the baby didn’t try to even test it, or they just suited each other very well. My current pair won’t share the house but one likes the tubes and sleeping under the hay rack anyway so it works.

Everyone who is bringing a single boy or who wants to pair up two of our boys should watch this video. I can't tell you how many times I have tried to explain that a bonding was going well and people project their human emotions onto it and insist that I break the pair up. This is why we book adoption appointments for an hour--it takes that long to determine if it's a match! :)

Thx for the info. This helped ease my mind on some of the behaviour my two boys portray on rare occasions. They are brothers and have been together since being babbies. Generally they are realy peaceful but sometimes they still do the humping/ chasing. I never understood who the dominant was. but now I know thanks to your explanation of the sounds. Also good to know that guinea piggs are not food aggressive I always thought one taking food from the other was a dominance thing. But i guess its just like whoever is smarter/faster eater ;) thx a lot i will continue watching your videos to continue learning about my boys.

Question (sorry if it's long); I adopted / rescued some piggies from a home where they were put in the basement, in the dark, and alone. They were in a store bought rabbit cage (so not the biggest). The cage was disgusting to say the least (I had to use a scrapper to scrap off the pee and poo built up on the bottom), they had 1 cave between the 2 of them, and they had 0 interaction from the owners. So I ended up starting them off in a fresh new cage with new caves. The previous owner swore they were bonded, so I moved them into a new 17.5 sq ft C&C cage - almost the size of my twin bed. Lots of caves (duo exit), different bottles around the cage, timothy hay in different places, etc. But I noticed over time that Tom (the dominant pig) would often chase Phobos (the submissive pig), and they would run and run and run. Phobos would NOT let Tom hump him, but Phobos would never try to hump Tom. They never fought at the beginning, but as time went on, I noticed they progressively started to get worse. Then 2 months down the line, as Tom's behaviour got more aggressive, Tom actually tried to bite Phobos (he bit me instead, right through the towel and left a big welt). That is when I separated them, and they've been separated since. My question is - Why the regression in behaviour / bonding over time? Phobos would never hump, spray, teeth chatter - he would make those little squeaks (the submissive ones you mentioned) - but he would never let Tom hump him; he would just run away. Tom on the other hand would chatter his teeth, rumble strut, at some points bare his teeth (towards the last week or two), chase Phobos, and some other behaviours. I'm just not sure what went wrong. Can guinea pigs un-bond after time? Or maybe they were never really bonded to begin with?

Depending on the age of your boy, choose a boy that is younger or older to pair up with your boy. I had a boy, whose brother passed away in January, so Roadie became a lone piggy. I paired him up with Zoomie who is a couple of years younger and they get along really well. Zoomie is a gentle boy, who became a lone piggy, after I lost 7 boys last year, otherwise until Trigs' passing this year, I would have had an even number of boys. Good Luck finding a friend for your boy.

I adopted two males caged together that the owners did not admit to a problem. After I got them home, both were scarred up and each had active abcesses! The aggressive pig continued to mate with the other boy, if you get my drift. They stopped all that when I gave them more room to themselves and they got comfortable with the rest of the mixed gender, heard. Just saying as you can't trust them to be nice until they have really stopped all that chattering. Every case is different so keep a close eye on them. Then the wind was really taken out of their sails when I got them fixed 😉

Wow, I never knew this was the way to introduce the male guineas. I always pick them both up and pet them together and see if they purr when petting. Then I'd put them in a clean and stocked cage area. Learn something new every day. They were very aggressive. And I never quite understood the humping on the same see. Kinda like dogs, it's a way of greeting each other. Chattering teeth always seemed like a warning and precursor to a rumble. Guineas are very entertaining!

Hey Saskia, how are you & how are you getting on??.. I just want to say a massive thankyou for putting these very informative video's out. And for actually showing us. Your video's are amazing to watch & the information is so valuable, honestly, you give so much. I have managed to bond two of my boys,Max & punk. They are quite funny really because punk tries to be the more dominating one. But when it comes to me getting them in from the garden punk hides behind Max. Any sign of trouble & punk runs to hide behind max. But also Max was handled from birth (not by me but by my friend, who I got max from). He is the more laid back one, other guinea pigs don't really bother him. Max just wants to eat & run round bopping or pop corning away. Even when punk tries to dominate him,max just kind of ignores him. They make a good pair. Cause once max is running around buckarooing punk joins in. So funny to watch. But I have got 4 guinea pigs all male. I have tried bonding the other two,but it doesn't always go well. And if I mix them all up. It's like max & punk have to start again. It saddens me I have to keep the other two separated, because I feel like I can't give them the time they deserve. Also max is quite happy to lie on my chest & chill. Or I get a nice big comfy cushion & he will sit beside me & chill. Max will also react to his name. When you call him he will come to you. Anyway I am going to try & bond the other two again. I am just going to take my time & take it day by day. I wanted to ask would it help if I got a female in with them or two. Obviously they would have to be done. I don't want no babies. I have got enough mouths to feed in this house 😅😆.. I am also planning on making a bigger home for them indoors. I just feel if they are handled properly from birth it really does help. I mean my piggy called bear is a very anxious little thing. I know they can be quite nervous little things, but bear worries me & I think he would benefit more one on one with someone who can give him that.. but I am going to do it..I thought I was loosing bear. The one day I was getting him in out of the garden. And I don't know what made me check him. (I had already bought harry in)anyway as I checked him I saw some tiny tiny maggots on him. That was it,I was so worried. Long story short. I got the maggots off him washed him. And I found an open little round open sore looking thing under his chin. Later I realised that bear & harry had fought. But when I found the maggots, I got rid & washed him. As I am giving him a love I noticed the cut under his chin. So I bathed that in salt water. Bear healed just fine. I panicked when I found those tiny maggots. But when I checked him over, they have like an oily spot above there bottom or tail, end of spine, spot. When I first had them, they were about 3 months old. I never noticed this oily/greasy spot before. Anyway when I though bear had that fly stave (can't think of the proper name of the top of my head).I kind of rubbed away at it,not aggressively. Bless him he didn't like it. I guess I over panicked. Because when I found those tiny & they were tiny maggots,my mind went on overdrive. I bathe the quite regular now aswell. Especially the two of mine punk & bear have longer hair. So when they wee it can stick to their fur. And you can smell it sometimes when you pick them up. I mean I clean them out properly once a week, that washing the home & everything. Then through the week I clean there mess up,wipe where needs wiping, putting clean bedding in.. They are messy little buggers though 😂😆. Feeding them, they get fussy. I mean they won't eat hay..Sometimes they might nibble at a bit. Maybe I have made them fussy eaters. I always collect fresh grass & dandelion leaves for them. They love them. It's the same with veg, I try & change it,give them diffrent selections each day..but they can turn there noses up sometimes. The thing is I haven't got the money to waste on veg. Or them turning there noses up.. I give them pellets& grass & dandelion leaves of a night. Then night time when I get them in I give veg. They never stop eating lol. I really apologise for the long comment/message. It's just good to get how I feel out in the open,to people who understand. I don't normally write this much. Anyway if you read it all or if you didn't, any advice or help you can give me, I would really really appreciate it. Also have a blessed & beautiful day & Takecare,xx.. Sending love & big hugs to you all,xx

Saskia, I recently just became a G-Piggy Mama about a month ago. I researched videos on KZbin about G-Piggies and learned how these creatures need companionship with another of their own, so I bought White Boy Edwin. They are just a BLESSING and they BONDED right away, I have not seen any humping or any displayed aggressive behaviors. All I seen is a little nose nudging, but it’s because they were eating but nothing severe. And now that I’m so invested in these 2 little guys, I’ve been watching so many of your videos and truly admire the person you are and the cause you emanate. Witnessing your passion and realizing how so many piggies need loving homes, I’d love to adopt one of your piggies, but I want a female companion, spayed of course. So my question to you is, would you recommend a female with 2 young sweet male boys?
