I remember when a rescue found a match for my male (Naoki), it was kind of interesting. He is usually super aggressive, but he just immediately started popcorning around when they matched him with Koto. The rescue said it was the fastest bonding they had ever seen. It took a whole 5 seconds for them to start popcorning around together after being put in their introduction space. They've been inseparable ever since. When I get Koto out, he goes crazy and squeaks really loudly until I put her back. It's kind of adorable how close they are.

I worked in pet stores growing up and the guinea pigs were always my favorite. It was my first pet at around 8 years old. So fast forward to when I was 21 and my roommate and I both manage pet stores and our house looked like a zoo. 2 ferrets, 3 dogs, red bellie piranha tank, geickos, anoles, ball python, albino red tail boa and probably 4 other fish tanks. At one time we had around 15 guinea pigs and it was awesome. Now my gf has never handled or known anything about GP's, so I take her to the local shelter and she falls in love instantly. We end up taking home a 2 yr old female that was probably the smartest GP I've ever seen. We named her snickers because of her coloring. Had her doing tricks for treats in a few days. She was awesome. So after about a year I see there's a 3 month old female at the shelter, so we decide to go get her a friend and name her Izzy. Snickers is an American and the baby was an abyssinian. We do the typical introduction like you're doing in a neutral area. Things go OK, snickers basically doesn't care really, just doesn't want to be bothered, and obviously the youngster has quit a bit more energy, but they seem fairly ok together, no teeth chattering or showing teeth, just rumble strutting and some "I'm annoyed" sounds when snickers had enough, and the baby would back off when she got "the look." forward about 3 months, I cannot tell you how massive this Izzy got in that time. She was able to stretch out and touch the top of the C&C grid with ease. She was at least 3 times the size of snickers and became absolutely relentless chasing her and rumble strutting, mounting her etc. I cannot overstate her level of dominance enough. She didn't sleep barely ate, just 24/7 chase. After a few days snickers was fed up and it became violent, teeth showing, squabbles and urine spraying/marking constantly. So I put a divider in, Izzy just continued walking back and forth at the C&C divider, trying to dig under it, chew through it, climb over it, whatever she could trying to get to snickers. So I put a solid divider by covering the C&C with Coloplast. STILL didn't matter. Hee behavior ensued nonstop, 24/7. We ended up having to put her in a completely different room to get her to stop, and eventually adopted her to a family friends daughter as a Christmas present. I have never in my life, I'm 46 now, seen a GP act that obsessed and aggressive in my life, and I've probably own 20+ over the years. Have you seen or heard of this, where after a certain amount of time together, one will turn on the other? Or do you think they were able to tolerate each other just because Izzy wasn't mature enough yet???

Then Cisco died from a sudden case of bloat and now we get a chance to start over. There aren't any shelters in my area that do pairings, so we are going to see what we get with a quick introduction and then some bonding at home. Love bonding videos! Thanks so much for sharing this. Are there female Buddha piggies? I swear I have one like that. She just doesn't care who she is placed with, she does her own thing. She will make that "I am annoyed noise" if they come too close, but then goes own to do her thing. I have a question though, after they have been bonded for some months, can you separate them when taking one of them to the vet? I heard stories of people separating for vet visits and when the piggies get back together is if they are going through all that bonding process again. What would you suggest? I am afraid of separating them because of that and always take all three with me to vet visits. Thanks!

@rodrigocaceres28795 жыл бұрын
Yes, actually, yawning and relaxing even when you are close is a good sign that your guinea pig trusts you. Their instinct tells them to run and be alert at anything, so doing that means they don't feel in danger. They'll get startled from time to time though, but don't worry, it's normal.

I have 4 male guinea pigs. I originally got 2 and then went back for one that was by himself (I got them at petsmart and now they live in big C&C cages.) The two original piggies have a tight knit bond, and then I introduced the boss pig. He displays a lot of dominant behaviors, but the other piggies do not seem to mind him too much and they even chase him too. I got nervous when I read online that 3 male pigs don't usually end well and that you risk losing the bond between the pigs and ending up with 3 single pigs. So I got a 4th pig so I can keep them in pairs instead. Have I made a mistake in separating them when they were all getting along well? Is it recommended to have floor time with all of them once a day and then they go back to their cages? I just worry that they will miss each other and lose their bond. Your feedback would be much appreciated.

Hello, I have some questions. On 15:58 (or about that time) doesn't black and white guinea pig want to eat ant try to reach herbs and cucumber? I am really curious about that part. Secondly, about divider, I am not questioning your experience, but when two guinea pigs are living separate, "talking" with one another, couldn't they fell more comfortable with each other i one space? I saw this advise really often, while doing research about my two boys. Third, is it easier to bond two plus one guinea pig, than one plus one? Also, you guys are awesome. You inspired me to think about such kind of rescue in my country. Thank you.

18:33 I really don't buy that guinea pigs don't yawn, apart from doing it to show their teeth. I've seem my guinea pigs yawn and stretch their legs when waking up from a nap so many times. Yawning stretches the lungs and it's surrounding tissues and it makes you more alert. This is one of the reasons why you sometimes do it when waking up, especially in combination with stretching your arms or legs. I see no reason why guinea pigs wouldn't have the same with their muscles after they've slept. There's more than more reason for yawning.

They draw blood whenever I try to bond them I have tried every single combination and people only want already bonded Guiana pigs so no guinea pigs are finding a home. It’s so sad! I got two of them to bond for a little while but then they got unbonded it’s so frustrating! @@hi-dp3wo Aspen is a different wood, but as long as it is kiln-dried it is fine

They are all fine as long as it says it's kiln-dried and intended for small animals

Hi do you have any advice on helping a guinea pig put on some weight. My wee guy is about 4 now and I'm struggling to keep weight on him. He has unlimited hay, and gets about a 3rd of a bowl of pellets just now and some veggies everyday. Do you have any advice of what I could maybe add to his diet to help him gain weight?

Maybe try just giving him a constant supply of pellets and veggies? I give mine a constant supply, and they keep weight just fine. They eat when they’re hungry, and it’s better because they’ll eat all the time instead of waiting for you to feed them and being hungry.
