We are switching to the fleece method. Our first pig, Addie, who is 10 wks. now, has her first upper respiratory infection. I have noticed when we have her down stairs in the pen with no bedding she seems much happier and sneezes less. Thank you for showing what each layer looks like and how simple it is to clean. As soon as I'm done posting I'm on my way to get more fencing and start adding some fleece. ++30 bucks a year for adult pads is AMAZING!!! Thank you!!

$30?!! That's insanely cheap for a c&c cage
@jst4bella10 жыл бұрын
Ya there was a great sale at bed bath and beyond where I got the c&c grids and the chloroplast was free. The other thing i spent money on was the fleece. The cage is a 4 by 2 set up so it's awesome for my two little darlings. After the food, toys and other fun things I probably spent about 100.00, so it was all pretty cheap and it was fun to do a lot of it ourselves, made the fleece pads and 4 fleece huts. Pretty awesome and easy, great crafting project with the family. :)

Is building the c&c cage easy? I pretty much want the same setup as she did but don't know where to start. I liked how she had the nice sized plastic bin on bottom then had the fencing upstairs! Help me please! Thank you.

This is such a great detailed video! I had a guinea pig many moons ago when I was a kid. Times have really changed in the guinea pig world! I never have seen this type of a “playground,” for the guinea pigs. I was 10 years old when I had my guinea pig “Caesar.” He only had a cage. I took him out constantly though and let him run around my bedroom. I love the new playgrounds for the guinea pigs. If I get a Guinea again, I will definitely buy 2 pigs, and definitely they will have a playground such as this! Thanks for sharing.

What I like to do is go to JoAnn Fabrics and I get their No Sew Blanket kits when they are on 50% special. They will have a nice, colorful, fun print and then a solid. I make the bottom liner using two pieces of the patterned fleece and then add the sides with the solid color. I then make pads for the upstairs and pee pads with the scraps. For those, I do add 1-2 layers of terry towels in the center. I get inexpensive towels at WalMart for this and cut them to size.
@rskibuk12 жыл бұрын
I cut the fleece to size for the bottom, added a little for seam allowance and then I cut 12 inch strips and sewed them together to make one long strip then sewed them to the edge of all four sides of the bottom so that they wrap up and over the sides to prevent the pigs from burrowing.

The majority of my fabrics I got at Joann Fabrics. I wait until they put their No Sew Fleece Blanket Kits 1/2 off. You get a printed piece and a solid for the back. It is enough to make a bottom piece with sides, a top liner and about 3-4 pee pads depending on how big you make them. This is a VERY affordable way to get cute fleece and there are tons of patterns.

DENISE MILNER I no longer have any piggies they have all passed on. My cage was a 2 x 3 with a 2 x 1 upstairs. I don’t recall of the grids were 12 inches square or bigger. I had my cage set up On a coffee table, that I had found at IKEA. It was the exact size of my cage, it was the perfect height, and it also had a shelf under it, that I could store supplies.

Anywhere that sells fabric. I like to get the no sew blanket kits when they go on sale. There is usually a printed piece and a solid piece and it will allow you to make a bottom with flaps, a top liner and a number of pee pads. JoAnn's usually puts them on sale half off a couple times a year!

@Az4angela Angela, I ordered the cage from guineapigcages. You can Google it. You can also build your own by getting the grids from Walmart or Target, just make sure the holes are no bigger than an inch and a half. It can be hard to find the coroplast for the bottom locally, so ordering the cage kit was the best option for me. I ordered the 2 x 3 and then got the 2 x 1 upstairs with ramp for their eating area. I am off to find and friend you on FB!

You can use Dreft, which is fragrance free and color free. Pigs are sensitive to smells. To properly with the fleece, it must be washed with that type of detergent and vinegar. No fabric softeners. It will keep the fleece from wicking.

You can add cubes and attach to one side for a roof/lid that will open. It really isn't necessary unless you have other animals that may try to get in to harm the pigs. All of our dogs and cats are pig friendly, so we are good.
