I have mixed feelings about Nationwide. I had coverage for all nine of my piggies for about 2 yrs. You pay the vet bill up front, send the claim to Nationwide & they reimburse you a certain percentage of your bill. However reimbursement is often VERY MINISCULE. I had a very sick piggy who was back & forth to the vet for inner ear infection which resulted in complications. I ended up paying HUNDREDS for meds, diagnostic testing, labs, exams. I was reimbursed BARELY $50 from Nationwide. I was really upset about that. Not long afterwards I discontinued the insurance. You really have to READ the fine print. There's A LOT they DON'T COVER such as medications, wellness exams, certain diagnostic tests. Also there's always a DEDUCTIBLE. And I repeat they only reimburse a certain PERCENTAGE only!! Also even more annoyingly, if you have more than one pet, they bill you separately for each. So I was getting 9 bills every month. Why can't they lump them together?? I had the bills on autopay from my checking account. Big mistake!! I forgot to put enough in the account once and my bank charged me $30 fee 9 TIMES!! Yes fee totaling $270. Unfortunately my bank only refunded me only $30. 😭(Believe me not long afterwards I quit that selfish bank too!!) Anyway insurance is a good idea but I think for small animals Nationwide really could do better. If they had some competition maybe they would improve. But currently no one else is covering small animals, only cats & dogs unfortunately. 😟☹️☹️😭😭😭

@@Sprklnstrwbrygrly it does save you money to pay up front, I pay a little more for payments. For each of ours it is 79.80 base premium for a year includes a 5% multi pet discount of 4.20. I also pay 2.00 payment processing with each installment bringing my monthly total to 8.65 per pig. So if you pay up front it would be only 6.65 per pig per month

Just called them for a quote. They said what you were offered, Scott, has changed and it's more expensive per month now, with either a $100 or $250 deductible!! He also said the older accounts will change soon, so look out for that! He said they don't send out pamphlets either.

Hi Scott! I'm an international student in graduate school in Washington D.C. and I just got my pair of boys Dashing and Almond 2 weeks ago thanks to your awesome videos! We called Nationawide (and mentioned LA Guinea Pig Rescue) as there is no online form for DC zip code. They offered a monthly $20.5 (for 2 piggies) Whole Pet Plan 90% with $250 Deductible - for our piggies which one had ringworm the other sneezed (but the pet store fully covered our bill from the vet). This is quite different than what you learned on their website. Do you think it is still a good deal? We believe insurance is necessary for sure, but not sure about the $250 deductible...My friend and I really love your videos. We ordered many stuffs from Amazon from your website. You could probably use care credit until you submit your claim n then just pay it off. Care credit is a pet credit card and you can use it yourself too. It's no interest if you pay it off with in 6months.

Ok guys I called Nation Wide and they charge monthly per piggy so if you have two piggies it's an average of $30 a month per pig. I have two so I would pay $60.00 a month. I don't know if it's like this in every state but I think it is. Oh and they have a few different plans with different deductibles.

It doesn’t seem like it’s really worth it after I did the math cause nationwide pet insurance now wants $74 a month for 2 4 month old guinea pigs!! That’s almost $900 a year just for the cost of insurance not to mention just like you explained you may not get the 90% back it may only be 50%! And that’s not even adding in the deductible!!! It seems to me if I put that $74 away every month it would be cheaper in the long run.

That is not correct, they still offer Exotic/ Avian plan if you ask, but the higher premium and deductible plans allow you to choose the guaranteed reimbursement percentage. 250 per year. You can spend thousands in one visit. You can spend thousands in one visit It is up to you just never deny your pet's care because of cost. You will almost certainly meet the deductible on your 1st visit
