Scotty gets REAL about Guinea Pigs in the Swimming Pool! When it gets hot, you start to see all these videos online with guinea pigs swimming. Guinea Pigs are capable of swimming, but they are not comfortable (scared) of water they cannot stand in. Would you scare your pet for your own amusement? NOT ON MY WATCH!

Hi I was wondering if there was anyway to make a suitable cage for a guinea pig? I have a long green habitat for my boy but I'm a young teen and my parents don't have rooms available in the house for a suitable cage for him. When we bought him I didn't realize this at all untill I started looking more into facts about guinea pigs to help me out. I have no way of knowing where to get a decent cage for him even less so on how to build one if I could.

Fandom boi I have seen some really nice pens/cages where people have old chests of drawers and taken the drawers out and replaced it with suitable wire netting so it’s usually big enough for the guinea pigs. Have a look online from some cheap drawers where you could convert it. Also look at some where people have made them for their guinea pigs on Pinterest perhaps. If there is more than one tier for extra space (then it only takes up space upwards rather than floor space) you could get some smallish wood planks as stairs. Hope this helps

@@codieh2632 I'm sorry to shoot down your idea but guinea pigs need horizontal space not vertical space and most of the time converted bookshelves or dressers do not have good airflow and are very difficult to clean and they are also very heavy. You can make your guniea pig swim, in a pool as long as it's not deep for a guniea pig to drown in, make the guniea pigs feet touch the ground and don't make it deep, it's a small animal, so it's not safe to make your guniea pig swim in a pool that is deep

I grew up in California we had a very small zoo that had a herd(30+) of guinea pigs in out door open area surrounded by a moat of about 3 inches of water I asked the keeper won't they escape and the answer was that the piggies won't cross water so what does that say to me they don't swim and this way before I became a guinea piggie mom

hi ! i have a blind guinea pig and she won’t bond with others - she gets really aggressive and tries to fight any guinea pig that gets close to her. for now i have her separate but i will be making a larger c&c cage this weekend but putting a divider so she can’t hurt the others but isn’t alone and can socialize. i’m not sure if she’ll do okay like that, please answer me if you can or if anyone else has an opinion 🥰

Thanks for posting this scotty. We have 4 guinea pigs right now and its great to see warnings like this for people who might otherwise not know better. We would never put our piggies in a body of water where they couldn't stand on their own. Piggies are a scared of everything. I cant immagine their fear being in a pool or bathtub where they couldnt stand. Most piggies dont even like water I dont think. Our babies have nice large 10 square foot cages that I built with plenty of room to wig out and popcorn. Plenty of hidy holes and shaded areas. They love to hide out and nap in a comfy dark place. So much hay everhwhere, fresh veggies every day. Lots of clean drinking water. We love our piggies. Theyre just so sweet. Thanks again Scotty.

My daughter had been watching your videos since she got her Guinea for Christmas to learn about him. I so wish she had seen this video first or earlier. My son’s first pet was a guniea pig. Snoozer was his best friend. We had him litter trained & he patrolled our house. At night he made his rounds making sure we were all safe. He was the sweetest pet we’ve ever had. He lived to be 8years old & like you said. It’s not funny putting a guniea pig in the pool. Snoozer loves baths, but we had a shallow dish pan for that. my guinea pig is having trouble with moving his legs - he's 7yrs old - and after going to the vets, they ruled out anything being broken or fractured and his vitamin c levels seem normal. He has minor arthritis though but he still seems to drag his leg. Would water therapy help him with his limbs?

While getting hay at Petsmart this Monday, I saw a baby Guinea pig with obvious ringworm. I knew if I didn't get him, he'd only get worse...so I bought him. Carried him to the vet, he got medicine for his URI, and ringworm. He's doing so good now. His name is Panda. My pigs have their own room, and they're spoiled rotten. Love them so, so much.

Can guinea pigs get a bath in a small baby kiddie pool outside? Were thier tiny toes touch the pool though or is that a no.My faye is filthy but I'm scared to bathe her she doesnt have gripe or sticky stuff on her just smells musky.Bc I bathed my star bug in the sink last time and she hated it so bad she constantly grooms herself now star hated the bath I felt horrible.Also I have not had my babies outside much this summer bc its 90 here and I dont want them getting heat stroke.

Is it safe to have an a guinea pig cage in like an 8 ft.² cage that's like called the Midwest cage. Because that's the kind a cage I have and I only have one guinea pig but you're going to think why do I don't have to because my guinea pig does not like either guinea pigs so I was one if it's safe to have a guinea pig in and in the Midwest cage I have a little pet store cage but that's like say if I'm ever going to go traveling or syphilis to go stay at a friends house from where they go for a week or two . I cannot stand it when people brag that their piggies LOVE to go swimming. Oh they just LOVE it. NO THEY DONT!!!! I could just scream sometimes. I know this one person and she says “let your piggies go swimming! They love it!” I tried telling her they, in fact, do not love it, and she says “oh yes MINE love it, they go swimming in the pool all the time! When it’s real hot in summer we just put a planter dish in the piggies cage with like a centimetre of water 😂 I then put cucumber slices in there and they can just pop their feet’s in if they want too and get some hydrating cucumber. They love it!

My guinea pig is rather territorial and pretty aggressive to other pets (a cat and dog who he chases when given a chance) and I remember when I got him he was pretty closed off from his other litter mates (given he was crammed into a glass cage with 5 others at a petco and that glass cage didn’t seem too big. If I remember right it’s smaller than the cage he showed in this video) Do you think I should attempt to get him to be friendly with another piggy? I really dont want to get another piggy and then my piggy doesn’t like it and I may have to give it away. He has this huge cage to himself and seems pretty content and really playful all on his own. He will actually run around and do little laps in his cage and I do bring him into my front room so he has even more room to run around (Yes it’s cleaned before hand and fully guinea pig proofed) I’m sure to pamper him as much as I can and if the weather is good I take him on walks in his carrier that he loves to be in. He will actually just lay down and relax while I walk or if he’s on a car then he still chills out. A good handful of times I’ll set him on my bed while he’s eating lettuce and the moment I set the carrier next to him he runs right to it and stops eating. I actually have a hard time getting him out lol. But anyway I’m just not fully sure if I should get a second I’m also very sure my piggy was the runt as when I got him he was very social with humans and continues to be comfortable and social with humans he was just really small. I’m not sure if it because they weren’t feeding him right but I remember for awhile that I could feel his ribs and he was frankly the size of a fully grown hamster. Though soon I stopped being able to feel his ribs and he developed a belly. I also have a question: my piggy seriously hates his underside touched. Even if I have my hand too close he kinda does this warning snap at me. He doesn’t break skin but he definitely uses teeth and I’m curious if there’s anyway to break that? He’s almost 2 years old now this coming October and I fear it’s a little too late to correct that but I’m just curious if anyone has dealt with that before and if they found a solution.

Good going, Scotty! Right on! Terrible thing to put them in water like that! Imagine if they're scared of a bath and it can stress them out, what about a pool?! I saw one video where a girl put them in a child's wading pool but was kind of holding them and was careful, but still I commented that it would be better to leave them in a nice cool, but not ice cold air conditioned room with small cucumber slices floating in cool water in a shallow pan. A lot better then ever bringing them to a large swimming pool where they can sense danger!

I know guinea pigs are social animals and shouldn’t be left alone but my piggies don’t get along well and one of them is a male so I split my cages. The cages are homemade and are quite large so I’m wondering if it’s still ok for the pigs since they share the same cage but are divided off. I also plan on taking in one of my gmas piggies who gets along with my younger female and they will share the cage and I’ll move the male to my older females cage, sectioned off of course. The male also isn’t aggressive. Is this ok?

But my piggy loves water. When she gets dirty, like covered in dirt, I bathe her. She almost fell asleep one time. I took her to a creek once, and she walked and splashed in the water. She also ate the wet grass growing in the water. I never force her to swim.

What’s the minimum space for 4 Guineapigs cause my guineapig just had baby’s

The more important question is what sex are the babies? You will need to separate any boys in 3 weeks from the mama. At 4 weeks the baby boys could get Mama pregnant again. Also the minute mama gives birth she could get pregnant by any other males. The minimum square feet for guinea pigs is at least 10 ft for a pair and the more pigs you have the more space you should give them. 2 x 6 C&C cage would be nice

My guinea pig lost all his brothers and we don’t plan on buying anymore because the heartbreak hurts so much.. he’s lonely, depressed, doesn’t like human interaction and now he’s blind.. he mainly sleeps all day and only comes out for food but doesn’t let anymore touch him.. I was thinking about putting him to sleep? What are your thoughts? I just feel so bad for him

Okay i have two guinea pigs they both dont get along at all. Both female. Is it okay if i have them living side by side where they both can still talk to each other? Or in a bunk bed style c&c cage? Hi there my piggie wheezes when she eats I’m worried there is a problem like in ur vid u said about fluid on the lungs I’m worried this only shows when she eats and gets exited it’s hot where I live so I give her cool baths as she is all black the other 3 piggies don’t have this wheeze I have four in total and there is two little ones and two bigger ones one of the bigger aka older ones is wheezing just to confirm there is only one piggie that is wheezing thank you for making the vids u do they help me as I have autism and worry about my pigs all the time

I’ve seen many videos on KZbin with people putting guinea pigs in the pool or kiddie pools. It’s basically torture for them?

Justa Lilhel I am sorry to hear about losing your Ringo! It hurts and time is a slow medicine. Maybe our common grief and support can accelerate the healing. But I miss all my pigs who have gone so much. Its not fair our clocks run on such different time.

Scotty thank you so much it helps when people understand that grief you have for these guys. you are so right not fair we’re on different timelines. I was sad when I heard about your recent lose. They all take a piece of you when they have to go. Such little animals give such great love. I remember my first when I was 5 yrs old to everyone in between. Ringo was my most recent loss and he was just one that always looked for you and be the one I could call too and he’d come running along with being a big cuddler. I have a herd so to speak they give me joy. I get some rescues in since there are always ones who need help. So understand the importance and heart ache what you and the rescue go through.

Justa Lilhel I'm so sorry for your loss🌹😔I recently lost my sweet girl Rosy too. She was such a darling and a wonderful singer! It was a few months ago now, but I still miss her so much. I hate it when people think you're weird for grieving so much over "just a guinea pig." Some people just completely lack empathy it seems. I'm so glad I just found this channel...it's wonderful that there are so many other like-minded people who understand our love for these sweet little animals. Take care❤️

Scotty's Animals I just found your channel with this video popping up in my recommended list. I'm going to have to do some serious watching now! I'm so sorry to read here that you recently lost a sweet piggy too🌹❤️It's truly so hard that they don't live as long as us. They really are such special, sweet little animals and it's so very hard to lose them. I've had guinea pigs literally all my life and can remember (and still miss) every one of them. You take care too and know that you gave your piggy the most love and best life he/she (sorry I'm not sure) could have ever had.🐹💖

Stella Anon thank you. And very sorry for your loss. Bet she had a great song to sing to you. One thing I notice many of the people who love G-pigs are awesome and compassionate. From the rescues to normal pet owners to even the breeders. In Peru they say guinea pigs are magical and have healing powers . I think they do and have a magic for bringing good people together.

You know, I really liked the concept for this. The point of view gave me actual anxiety as if I were in the pool and not able to get out. Excellent job at illustrating how these poor piggies feel when they're thrown in pools. If I ever manage to actually get my channel going one of the videos on my list is something like safe guinea pig "swimming". Aka, letting them run around on a wet towel and cool their feet off. LOL

I don’t understand why people dump their piggies in deep water out of nowhere and scare them. On a hot day I’d put them in a kiddy pool with just enough water to cover the bottom so they’re still standing.

For some animals, More ISNT always better, Baby geckos for example cannot/should not have a large terrarium, since they can easily get lost and not find any food and/or water if you put the water in the bowl, ( I understand this isnt a guinea pig )

You had me there for a minute. I cannot understand for the life of me how anyone would think it's okay to put Guinea pigs in a swimming pool. That is just mean. The people who do stuff like that should be jailed for Animal cruelty.
