I rescued two budgies from a private household once. They were kept outside in winter on a higher altitude (about 1000 metres above sea level) and were about one cold night away from freezing to death. The owner didn't want to give them up so I had to pay a hefty ransom to buy them free. Never regretted saving these two precious little souls. They were with us for many years to come.

It was so heartwarming when I got home and brought them inside and they instantly fell asleep in the warmth of my home, exhausted from the trip but also finally feeling warm. It was a team effort, too. We weren't prepared for having birds, but a neighbour provided food as it was later in the evening, so we could set them up with food and water and get them comfortable for the night. But it's you who does this sometimes heartbreaking work every day, Scotty, so thank you for everything you do and for never giving up. 💖

I know it's the natural world we live in as far as prey and predator, but I feel really sorry for any feeder animals because they are in a captive environment not like out in the wild where they would have some chance of escape, but I feel sorry for livestock, lab research, and stray animals too, most of any of these animals don't have a decent quality of life. Bless you both for all the furry baby rescues (poor rabbits though😔).

I'm grateful that you make the connection between the feeder animals and all of the animals that are raised for food. The irony is not lost on me that we gave the cats cat food that certainly had meat in it. But we do what we can given the paradoxical nature of the world we live in

I worked at a grocery store that loved feeding cats(kept mice away), Most were neighbor cats that would let you pet them but one lived in the parking lot and was known as the grocery store cat. 🐈

We adopted 1 month old "whoopsie" babies several years ago and I got a very suspicious vibe off the lady that was selling them. First, she charged $50 per baby which implies she saw them as a payday. Second, she claimed the breeding was accidental but she also said her "daughter" put them together on purpose, and the young males had still not been separated from their mom. She wouldn't let us go in and see the pigs, but brought them outside in misty 50 degree F weather in a completely empty tub. One of the babies had ringworm and a nasty wound on his neck. We took all the babies and I pleaded with her to not let them breed again and DONT FEED THEM BIRD FOOD omg.

I started out feeling a little kindness towards this man but after he made you guys pay for them so he did go down a notch in my eyes. However, he did not feed those very beautiful piggies to the snakes. Now Valarie on the other hand is my new saviour. Bless her heart! You do travel in the best circles!!!!!!! not to jump at the guy's defense, but when you consider he's in charge of snakes (costly creatures), and could only obtain live food for them from a breeder that said "we will give these to you *only* if you also buy these piggies, and we dgaf what you do with them"... I'd like for that breeder to be openly exposed much more than the guy who just had to overpay for food for his charges, and for animals APPARENTLY even their own breeders didn't want.

Oh Scotty, this was a great rescue--wonderful to see Valerie also with you on this rescue too! I think we need to give the man credit as not many would have cared for the welfare of these piggies. We have a love for our guinea pigs, they are our pets. There are others who have reptiles, lizards as pets and they need to eat. We may not like it, we may not understand why either. They have a different mindset and view certain animals in a different way than a pet. So hard,but I still remember what Scotty always says, the outcome is better than the situation the piggies found themselves in. These piggies were saved!! The man asked for money, I know, but he's in a totally different mindset and he took down a reachable number for the next time. More saved and who knows, maybe more of people he knows will do the same thing. It's the outcome---piggies being saved---thank you Scotty and Valerie!

Breaks my heart people feed live animals to snakes in America. Its against the law in my country. It has to be be put to sleep which is so much more humane. Thank you for going to rescue these babies, even though you had to pay for them. I hope all five of these little ladies will grow fit and healthy. I feel so sad for the rabbits! Personally, I don't think people should be allowed to keep any creature that requires live food at all. I even feel so sorry for the crickets in pet stores, chirping away. I would have paid for the piggies myself, but of course you wouldn't be able to do that usually. It's a really hard one and you don't want to be taken advantage of with situations like this. I'm still battling to cope with the missing 318, I think my heart is too sensitive for this world at times. I LOVE Valerie!!! I'd also have been trying to save all the kitties!!! Teehee! There’s a bit to process here with the whole snake food thing in general and then paying for the piggies. I’m not a reptile person but snakes gotta eat. And as for paying for the piggies, when you’re on the ground with a problem sometimes you’ve got to be flexible and make the best decision you can with the available options. I paid to rescue 2 piggies from someone (in my hometown) who was keeping them in their bathtub! A momma & her son!!! I had already contacted a rescue & they were willing to take them. So, I met up with one of their volunteers 1/2 way. Mom was pregnant again (4th time apparently) & this time delivered safely in the rescues care❤

My daughter and I saved a tank of feeder mice yesterday. The males had seriously injured each other. We took them all. Poor babies. Definitely pay to save them. Animals or reptiles that eat live should not be pets. They makes for so much suffering of animals bred for this purpose. Totally different in the wild where animals have a chance to escape.

Then my roommate got her off an ad the guy placed cause his kids lost interest. My piggy is the most loving darling youll ever see. It really sounds like the guy wanted to feed them to the snakes. I had experience with a owner a while back and he didn't care for the pig at all after the cage mate died. I found him with mites and was bloated.We had to drop him off at the shelter because he could infect my other pig. Thankfuly he has found a home with those who are going to be able to take care of him

Oh boy! I had to muster up some courage to watch this video. I'm glad you were able to save these piggies. There is a big systemic problem underneath, so rescues paying a ransom to "free" their target animals would only open a new hole of exploitation for these asshole breeders. Why do feeder animals need to be treated like crap, though? Underfed, ill, scared... At least let them have a good, short life, where they can be healthy, well fed and happy! 😢 I'm pretty sure the buns were in rough shape, too.😔 How on earth do you end up with 16 large snakes? Does he work at some kind of zoo or snake breeding or testing facility? I don't think it is fair to say "that animal is cute, so I will treasure it and I don't care about that type of animal, so I'm mistreating it".

I had to muster up the courage to even go meet this guy because I knew if I saw rabbits that I couldn't help I would lose my mind. He drove off and we didn't see them but trust me I couldn't get them out of my thoughts. It makes no sense to me why these animals weren’t treated well, as you said at least let them have a good life beforehand. These girls were so thin, it was sad. Luckily they have put on weight and I am getting ready to film an update for you all.

I agree 100%. I also think it was the only way to get them. I did explain that I was a rescue volunteer and that I couldn't pay for them but he said he could not give them to us without recouping his cost this time. After getting these ones he said he would do better to try to get his cost down if he came across guinea pigs so that he could surrender them to us without paying.

I do not like the fact that guinea pigs or rabbits for that matter are being used as snake food. To me that is the most disgusting thing ever. Thank you so much for rescuing the little piggies from that dangerous situation. The piggie girls are so beautiful and before you know it they will gain all the weight needed to be healthy.

unfortunately, its a reality that snakes need food. Rabbits, piggies, rats, mice etc. I wish It could be different, but some animals cannot survive on a veggie lifestyle. I am happy that this guy had a soft spot for these cuties. He does have a heart, he just has to feed the snakes too. They do cull the feeder animals humanely. I've had snakes in the past. You gotta do what you gotta do for the animals. Love that this guy wanted to save the piggies. Love what you do

As someone who has paid to rescue a few different species of animals, I completely understand why y'all have a policy to not shell out cash for animals, especially when they're unwanted in the first place. It makes people think they can ask for/demand money for other unwanted animals and, in my opinion, the people surrendering their animals should either donate to whomever is taking their unwanted pets or at the very least not charge the people who are going to be caring for them. I don't know if they just don't think about how much it's going to cost to get them medical treatment if necessary and to feed and house them or if they just don't care, but I definitely understand why some rescues and shelters charge at least a donation fee to take in animal surrenders. I have over 100 animals in my care right now, from mice and rats, to guinea pigs and reptiles and even a couple dogs. The cost for food, bedding, cages, treats, toys, medical care... it can all add up SO quickly and when you're not getting support from donations, it can be a really big financial struggle, not to mention all the time put in to care for everyone. Perhaps a video about that sort of thing could help to raise more awareness for what rescues and shelters have to deal with on a daily basis so that what they do doesn't go unnoticed and unappreciated by those who surrender their animals, especially those who just don't want them anymore. Maybe something about the average cost per piggie per day/week/month/year may help people understand just how much and how quickly everything can add up?

Remember that people (in prehistoric times) were once prey too. But we learned to fight back against those who would hunt and kill us, we built tools starting with crude axes and spears to defend ourselves from predators and before long, were able to turn the tables on them. Eventually we became hunters ourselves, able to hunt the most dangerous animals using technology, or hunt prey animals by running them to exhaustion. Nature has shown us that nothing is constant, prey can become predators, predators can go extinct, etc.

it makes sense, he likes guinea pigs. but he lost income on feed for his snakes, and has now less food for them, didn't know he was getting guinea pigs. but he's willing to listen and do better....i wish he could give you the number from breeder to see if they have more guinea pigs.

Poor piggies! Horrible that people think it’s ok to sell these babies for food. No one should have pythons for pets! I think it’s terrible he charged you to get the piggies. He didn’t want to kill them yet wanted to get a profit for them?. I hope he has a different heart next time if he does this again. Thank you for going to get them. Glad they will be safe and have good homes.

yes, it has been confirmed that they were taken in by a reptile breeder and snake food retailer in Apache Arizona. People at the Tucson Humane Society have lost their jobs over this.

@@robbiemcghee yes there were around 54 I believe that were turned back into the humane society in AZ that hadn’t been “adopted”. This was only after questions had been raised. To date not one person who supposedly adopted any of the more than 250 missing has stepped up nor has the reptile breeder provided proof that they went to good homes.
