This is probably my favorite song by Crosby, Stills & Nash. I've loved it since I was a teenager and always wanted to learn it. For some reason, it took until now to do so. This is a very satisfying song to play on guitar and the open tuning is particularly beautiful. For the past few weeks, I've been playing this song a lot and it has such a meditative, contemplative quality to it, it would leave me feeling so calm and serene. I'm actually sad that it's time to move on to another song - that's how much I have enjoyed working on this one. I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought me XXX

What a blessing to have such talented friends join you in your soulful expression through music. I've been meaning to listen to this, but a project has been keeping me busy. Love your guitar playing and the vocal harmony of the two of you. Don't know if you've ever heard the band Renaissance with Annie Haslam, there are bits in this song that remind me of them.

Thank you, D! Surprisingly, this was one of the quickest recordings of all of the videos. I think 2 hours start to finish! A disclaimer....we did a lot of rehearsals before recording day. That made the difference.

I regret waiting until I was after 40/nearly 50 before I started trying to sing. I have played guitar/been in numerous bands since I was a kid in the late '70s! Another thing I regret... (Idk why I'm blabbing about it now, lol) ...is that I play almost always with a pick! I never developed a "finger-picking" style! (Not even Travis picking, which I love when I hear it done well by others!)

Boom! That was world class. That song had to be a challenge, with low vocal registers and insanely lush chords & fingerpicking. Did you have to restring your guitar with the higher pitched notes you used? I love the more visceral-sounding rock-style strums you threw in. It have just enough tension to the struggling in the lyrics. But overall, blissful warmth to the power of blissful warmth. For a fantastic song & a missed songwriter. GREAT job, you two!

Thanks so much, Jay. No, I didn't need to re-string my guitar. I used CSN's original tuning, but raised the key a little by tuning each string up. Vocally, there was one note in the song that was giving me trouble..at the end of the first lines of the verses. Generally speaking, I'm very comfortable singing in a low register but that note was so low it was out of my range. I'm glad you enjoyed it and as always I really appreciate your kind comment 🙂

Hi Vesper! This just played in my youtube music mix so I got to enjoy it again...I'm wondering if you happen to know what Crosby wrote it about? Because I remember in the Vh1 Behind the Music he talked of his first wife's death in an accident when she went to take her 4 cats to the vet. And then of course he was with Jan after that until his death. Listening to the words I figured it was about that. It makes sense anyway.

@Vesper Yes it does...my thoughts exactly. As I listened earlier it all just kind of meshed with what I remembered from that show. What a beautiful tribute to both these ladies if so! I listened to the lovely Pink Floyd song the other day you played on your classical, which is sounding great! I was on the move though so need to go back and give it a proper listen...sometimes I'm too busy for my liking...ugh 😄 Talk to you later 🙂
