My go to beer, for sure: easy, pleasant drinking. I can knock a few of these back, knowing I won’t wake feeling fuzzy-headed or disoriented. You’re absolutely right throughout your excellent analysis: it isn’t complex; particularly contemplative, or a flavour extravaganza. It’s, quite simply, an enjoyable beer. Great review.

Very good review from an Irishman, I think you have captured a clear commercial aim Guinness has made in making a session stout which will sell well and not alienate much of the market. They have balanced this very well though to be fair as the stout still has some very nice points. You will notice though that when you have a more crafty stout/porter there is a lot more going on taste wise but they are typically much higher ABV and you will have one and be finished afterwards whereas guinness you can have a session of!

Guinness is an ok beer although I never drink it. The Guinness I used to drink was a bottle conditioned Guinness known as XXX. This was an outstanding beer. Not a huge fan of the cans but I love a good Guinness pulled the correct way which is hard to come by in The UK.
