It's about the only one left I think. I can't find Marston's Smooth or Tetley Smooth anywhere, and Boddington's is horrid now. Bitter has sort of died a death in the supermarket beer world since the dawn of all the guff 'craft ale'. You can't even find proper bitter in pubs anymore. 'Driving Bitter' as my late uncle always used to call it.
@heiltd1286 Жыл бұрын
@@emospider-man6498 You can find proper bitter in plenty of pubs. In fact in any decent pub there are great ales/bitters. This beer isn't a proper bitter. It's a disgraceful travesty of a proper bitter.

A few years ago I was at a work Christmas do, fair to say I was quite bladdered after a canny few pints of lager, a colleague then bought me a pint and for some reason he got me John smith’s which I’d never had before, I didn’t even know what it was until I drank it down to halfway and thought to myself wtf is this!! @trixiek942 What you say makes so much sense. You have boring old geezers who can't see beyond John Smith's and boring young geezers drinking Peroni and Corona. I get frustrated that they're living in England, a country with amazing beers and a deep beer culture, yet cannot appreciate it. You'd never find such people in Czech Republic. It seems there that appreciation of their native beer and its integral part of their culture and nationhood is pretty much universal.

I drank this beer as my first ever venture into ales(about 20 years ago) - it got me away from lagers, but I quickly realised there were better beers out there. I would certainly never choose to drink it now. You won’t find many traditional ales that are ‘Nitro or widget included’ that give it that creamy texture. You’ll get plenty of Stouts & Porters that do this though (Guinness, Murphy’s, Brewdog Nitro range) Best bet is to look for ‘Oat Ale’s’ or beers with a high oat content.
@MrScotchpie3 жыл бұрын
To me its not a bad beer; it doesn't taste rancid etc which would indicate a beer that has gone bad. It is however a beer that, though once popular, no longer suits modern palettes. How we ever came to a place where this was considered acceptable is beyond me . I've brewed beer based on recipes 150 years old and they were better than this. In fact they have been amazing with beautiful malts and a nice hop bitterness etc. So our ancestors didn't drink rubbish beers and their beers would sell well even today and get favourable reviews.
@YinvsYang4 жыл бұрын
I used to drink this along with Caffreys many years ago and both were very decent....but I tried both recently and they are shocking...the abv has been lowered on both along with the flavour, as far as flavour goes you may as well drink water. These beers get bought out because they were popular but that was because they were decent then the likes of Henieken screw them over for the sake of profits and they screw over the loyal customers along with it. They must obviously still sell enough to tick over and the only reason I can see is the price point....less than 4 quid for 4.
