This is what KZbin is all about, at least for me, listening to great music played by fantastic musicians like these in this video. All I can say is WOW and thank you for sharing this! You guys are great!

Absolutely brilliant. I was fortunate enough to see Curtis Jones in Helsby, England in 2005 when he visited the Robin Hood pub at the invitation of the Williams family and John Dowling (Banjo player extraordinaire). He played a free gig and sold his album from when he was in a band called Acoustic Room; He was a very nice, humble guy. No airs and graces and a pleasure to meet.

Totally stunning, the guitar break at around 2:30 put a huge smile on my face which isn't gonna shift anytime soon-

I have returned to this video dozens and dozens of times to watch Midkiff shred. Funny thing is--the guitarist, poor guy--is quite a killer player, too. Cryin' shame he's sitting next to this mountain of a player.

They are equally matched IMHO. Looks like a lot of mutual respect going on to me.

A blistering performance from a couple of geniuses. I know others can bash this out, probably just as good but, here the are, and fair play to them. I like their contrast in styles too from the, almost dinner jacket bolt upright technique of Jeff Midkiff to the frantic, and raring to go hands-on style of Curtis Jones, both clearly enjoyed the gig and so did I. Great Post, Thanks..

You guys have gotta be joking. This is awsome stuff. It captures an era of guitar jazz and combines modern skill and performance. Take it for what it is- two guy's interpretation of a great standard.

So, I'm in Guitar Center the other day and this cat comes into the acoustic room and starts tearing it up with Gypsy jazz, bluegrass, Hot Club, etc. I'm thinkin, this guy is gonna run out of notes. It was Curtis Jones, super nice guy and one hell of a picker. It was truley a pleasure.

@LifeWithSideburns at 0:53 when the mandolin stops soloing, and the guitar takes over, even a deaf man could hear that there's a bassline still playing (and it surely doesn't come from the mandolin). yes there is a doghouse bass playing (double bass, upright bass, bass fiddle/violin are other common names), and you can hear it is plucked with fingers not picked.

@wartburgknight Do you not know that the length of each string can be changed by cutting the end off ? As long as the type of guitar string you have has a ball end, and the gauge is suitable, you could use it on a mandolin.

poor guy... :( Now that 14 years has past, is he a bit more recognized ?
@BoyajianDon12 жыл бұрын
Hate to break it to you, but you most likely could use a guitar string of the matching gauge and construction. The only problem would be the end by the tailpiece. The length isn't the issue.
