The guitar in this video has classical style fingerboard, but nylon strings can be playable on instruments with acoustic-guitar dimensions. My favorite guitar is an Ovation acoustic guitar with nylon strings on it. It's very quiet without amplification, and the strings buzz if I try to play loud, but I really like the tone when I play quietly. A demo is at kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHm4goSHfNWJi8U (guitar+vocal, miked acoustically).

Hello, honestly, I haven't even seen the worse sides, but I like the guitar with nylon strings, because I have stronger fingers, I need to know how wide the zero fret is, what the price of the guitar is and where it sits to buy, I don't know any of this even though I went through all your information. I would like an electric guitar with a zero fret width of 48 to 50mm with nylon strings, but you can also advise me with metal strings, please politely thank you Kejík

So what does the on board preamp actually do? How much different would it sound if you just wired the piezo to a regular volume pot?
@TraqGuitars5 жыл бұрын
its purpose is not really to alter the sound but rather to match the impedance of the piezo with the rest of the signal chain and to amplify the signal. Without the preamp I imagine you'd need more input gain (the signal would be faint) -> more noise, and you would loose some frequency response due to impedance mismatch

I like very much the concept of a solid body nylon string. I am looking for some information about how to build one. Would you be son helpful to give some infos such as a plan or details about the thickness of the body. What is the length of the scale ? What are the tuners ? It looks like electric ones ? What kind of piezzo and preamp did you set up ? Thanks for your kind answer.
@TraqGuitars4 жыл бұрын
sure, here goes: I used "classical" scale length (650mm) instead of Fender standard 648mm, no big difference. Body thickness is a standard 45mm (more or less). I used 35mm mahogany plus 10mm imbuia top. Tuners are cheapo locking electric guitar tuners. The piezo is the graphtech ghost system - saddles and preamp. hope this helps :)

This is sheer genius. What an incredible build. You have inspired me to build a lefty version. Since I'm very experienced with composite products & materials, carbon fibre will be used in the body & neck. 2 questions, was the sadle / bridge purchased with the Graf Tech ghost kit or purchased separately? Do you remember exactly which kit you purchased? Thanks for the video. Your one serious Luthier. Rock on Bro.
@TraqGuitars2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually bought the saddles separately and got an inexpensive hardtail bridge, I drilled 6 holes for the piezo connector wires and installed the piezo saddles there. There is a small hiccup there because I bought the widest variation of the saddles (to stay closer to standard nylon string spacing) and I can't find a bridge that would accommodate it out of the box. So I had to hack around this a little bit also..

3 years on and I spent a whole day looking for a strat type electro nylon. All the ones around £500 are classical shape, or malmsteen nylon strat is £2500. I think there is definitely still a market for these guitars, and especially with polyphia playing nylon ibanez they will get more popular
@rp85642 жыл бұрын
Theres a gap in the market for these guitars. I'd love an affordable solid body nylon like this.
@t2dev2 жыл бұрын
I'm coming from an acoustic classical background. I'm wondering if you had to chamber that body or is it solid? How did you compensate for acoustic resonance? Thank you.
@TraqGuitars2 жыл бұрын
I actually had the idea to chamber the body after having built the guitar. It's possible that I made some chambers to reduce weight, but with no holes, the acoutsic impact is limited as far as I understand. So this is in essence a solid body with nylon strings, it does sustain a bit longer than a hollow body but it's not very noticeable.
@t2dev2 жыл бұрын
@@TraqGuitars too bad no one has invented a nylon string with a hair-thin metal core so the pickups can work. The core can only be a 3-4 inch length.
@TraqGuitars2 жыл бұрын
@@t2dev heheh that would be an interesting exercise (though ultimately wouldn't work unless you ran the core along all the length of the string since non-uniform weight distribution would wreak havoc in intonation, overtone structure etc)

Interesting sound. You think can be rebuild one using one electric body guitar and the neck of an acoustic? Are playing through electric or acoustic amp? Thank you
@TraqGuitars10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! There is no amp in the signal chain - the guitar is plugged straight into the audio interface. As for building something like this from parts of electric./acoustic guitar .. I'm not sure I fully understand your question, the neck here is modeled after a classical guitar, so this is a "classical neck" in a sense (removing an acoustic guitar neck and trying to attach it to an electric body would be very fussy ..)
@1viccar10 жыл бұрын
I thought you had attached the neck to the guitar. Do you think a Les Paul body can be converted to a nylon strings guitar. Can be changed all the electronic system?
@TraqGuitars10 жыл бұрын
victor cm Les Paul.. they have a shorter scale length so I'm not 100% sure how nylon strings would behave, but this you can check by just putting them on, without any modifications to the guitar. If that's ok then changing the bridge to one with piezo saddles and adding a preamp should work in principle
@1viccar10 жыл бұрын
Traq Guitars Thank you. I will try it.
@Jefferson-ly5qe7 жыл бұрын
Another question if you have time. What's the sustain like? I'm building an electric nylon, and I was hoping the sustain would be longer than on my classical since the energy of the string isn't being dissipated as sound. I didn't hear enough long notes to really tell in this demo.
@TraqGuitars7 жыл бұрын
hi sorry, for some reason I missed this question. I don't have any numbers for this at the moment, but from first principles the sustain has to be higher with less sound radiated into the air, as you say. I haven't measured the sustain vs a classical back-to-back but I think this guitar does sustain a bit better

Thanks! They are not ball end since the ones that I like don't come with a ball end (that I know of), so I had to make some contraption on the bridge side to have them hold themselves in place. @TraqGuitars9 жыл бұрын
+jamielusions it's a piezoelectric pickup, it picks up the vibrations of the string pressing at the saddle. See for example www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/piezo-vs-magnetic-pickups Then what comes out is just normal guitar signal - you can do anything you want with it, add effects, distortion, anything. I specifically didn't add any effects here to show the bare tone of the guitar. But for a recording I would.
