John Hendricks how do you use octaves in guitar?
@monojhqm
@monojhqm 4 жыл бұрын
@@arizonatea3009 it's the distance between the first and last note. An octave is a pitch 12 half steps, or 8 scale tones, above another pitch. Taking the guitar as an example, if you play the lowest E string, then move your finger up to the twelfth fret (each fret raises the pitch by one half step), you will be playing another E, but this is an octave higher than the first, lowest E you played. The highest E string on the guitar is an octave higher than that. When you look at that twelfth fret, you might notice a unique marking on it. Some have dots, lines, or mother-of-pearl insets. You'll notice some similar markings elsewhere on the fretboard. These usually signify the frets you need to use to play a pitch a major 3rd, perfect 4th, and/or perfect 5th higher than the open string. These markings are there so the player can look down and identify them right away, rather than counting the frets each time.

It's just the coolest thing in life, jamming with a friend like that! Both supporting each other, not competing to outplay one another. They both know it's not a competition, it's ALL the studying and practicing that they've both done showing up in this little exchange between them. I love when Neal is playing rhythm and Tomo is playing lead, Neal gives the enthusiastic "yeah" , he's digging Tomos playing not trying to think of something he can do to show him up. That's the way it's supposed to be, unity and harmony, just digging each other. I've read comments that compare who's better , I'm staying out of it. I think they're both amazing guitarists. I'm used to Tomo as a subscriber and just seeing Neal for the first time. Different in some unique little traits but both just amazing. Thanks Tomo, nice to meet you Neal (?) very up tempo fun little jam session, I thoroughly enjoyed that. 🎸☮️❤️🙏

The way Neal just wades in, even on my main instrument, wow I admire that. Neil is ungodly good. But the thing that really killed me musically, I went to the Marriott Hotel in Copley Square, George Garzone on sax, totally cool with being background music. Honestly, that destroyed me, because he was such a hero of mine on sax. I just didn’t want to be the best wedding band sax player ever, playing the Electric Slide. Guitar, I feel the joy again.

Neat has such an amazing way of phrasing!! A true guitarist finds beauty in the spaces between notes. This man is a genius! Btw the repetition at the beginning gave him a way to come back to something rememberable whenever he wanted which is freaking amazing. It ended and started the same way! Its not just random notes from a scale its a song!

Ive been playing along to tomos music for a while now and I just got a taste/feel for what it means to formally and professional finger correctly, you could say I get it now, I won't lose it in my muscle memory haha. thank you tomo for all the inspo
@TomoFujitaMusic
@TomoFujitaMusic Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! No muscle memory! That could be so stiff! You're very welcome! C E G on 123 set stings. X X X 5 5 3 = X X X R M3 5 ... learn them slowly without memorizing! That's root position. Then E G C on 123 set strings X X X 9 8 8 = X X X M3 5 R .. That's 1st inversion! G C E on 123 set strings X X X 12 13 12 That's 2nd inversion. That's all you need to know first! Take your time!
