Playing a solo is like writing an essay. But Tomo is one of the best teachers in the world, and he doesn't just assign his students to write essays. He challenges the students to recall what they "wrote", and he doesn't stop there either. He talks about what the student "wrote", offers additional insight, and initiates a conversation in order to reinforce the playing. This approach can be generalized to learning just about anything in life, but specifically this is truly how you get good at playing guitar. Practice, play, reinforce/converse, repeat.... This is some of the most elite level teaching on the planet for sure.

@cx777o5 жыл бұрын
Dude check out a channel called jens larsen. He does an excellent job at showing you how to build your own licks and phrases by using arpeggios and triads. Keep in mind to work only with one lick at a time and break that lick down to little building blocks which you use on different spots when phrasing.
@jamesemerson41025 жыл бұрын
@@cx777o Yes he is really good! A lot of things were unlocked for me once I learnt the altered scale very well and also the half whole diminished. I would practice playing those scales on the V chord every time it came around in a 2-5-1 which is everywhere in jazz...Then I would practice resolving that scale on a note that fitted the major chord in which the progression was landing on. That took a lot of work...but knowing those scales very very well helps a lot.
