Hey Sean, I just had to comment. After watching your video at least 20 plus x (and still watching), this is the most straight forward, insightfull blues lesson I've ever studied! There's a lot of cool riffs and lessons to learn on KZbin which is fine but yours actually gives one the keys to understanding what makes a lick work well and opens the door to actually creating a musical dialogue, so I can't thank you enough plus I admire you for putting together such a simple yet well articulated video that I'm sure is helping a lot of guitarists out there. That was really helpful. I could spend most of the time just playing along but still paying attention to the information. Actually, this is amazing. I studied classical guitar and then switched to 'modern' guitar, meaning electrical. But I stopped because the teachers bored me to death. The first five or ten minutes I could follow but then they ALWAYS started on endless tangents and ramblings on music theory. My mind shut off and my eyes glazed over. When I tentatively asked if we could stick to I IV V they tried, but then got off again on all possible jazz permutations and chords. Complete gibberish to me whilst my guitar sat idly on my lap. I wish I had this young man here as my teacher.

I just realized that I have been doing this the last couple of months. Trying to emphasize notes that match the chord progression while staying in pentatonic shape 1 and going into the high strings on position 2. Adding blues notes here or there. But I am not nearly as good at creating licks as you are, your creativity for bringing out licks is amazing, I reckon it takes lots of time. Thanks for the video.
