After an enormous wasted time figuring out how to make the simple 1st pentatonic actually sound like the blues, the lights suddenly went on. Playing fingerstyle and delta I tried the methods by countless other video lessons on improvisation all to no avail. This lesson changed everything in the FIRST FIVE minutes of the lesson. I have to change things up a little bit for acoustic but the principles are the same. Thank you very much

Love these lessons, and, I love the concept of playing the notes of the chord in your solos. Unfortunately, I can't really implement this so well. It requires knowing all the notes on the neck, and, after several years of playing, I still haven't been able to learn all the notes well enough to just jump to them.

Hey. Excellent video. Just wanted to know, when you are targetting those chord tones what do you have in mind? Is it the pentatonic pattern or the triad ( 1-3-5 or 1-b3-5 ) shapes? If its the former, is there an easy way to visualise those notes and if its the latter, is it a prerequisite to know all the triad inversions? Please answer this, i think its self explanatory but i need your confirmation. Plz.

Your "focus on chord tones" is making all the time I spent studying the CAGED system so worth it. Light bulbs going off everywhere, thanks Brett great, great stuff. Was playing around with Tom Petty's " Breakdown" and it is a perfect example of hitting those notes in the chord. Cheers !

I've been watching a lot of guitar tutorial videos for enhancement as my playing needs a major expansion project. Nonetheless, I really think you are probably the best teacher I've seen besides Marty, and Steve Stine (who lives in Fargo here with me and I personally know; very cool guy) but you even more so than those two; I think it's because you go over what you're referring to multiple times and really hammer home the stylistic concepts overall. It's really refreshing as I've been struggling for new and different chords as well as soloing concepts like this one. Don't mean to ramble, but keep up the excellent teaching as your doing a lot of people a huge service!
