Here is my take on a beautiful Opeth instrumental. Both parts are included and explained in detail with tabs included. Enjoy

Eezer I used to watch your opeth covers years back and now that I've picked up my guitar again I'm having to re-learn this song as the tabs weren't as accurate and I'm so glad I found you again! Thanks for the tabs!

Hey all, Eezer great lesson as always! Anyone having trouble with the B chord (around 4:00) can I suggest barring both the second and fourth frets (all strings at second and DGBE on fourth) and then using your pinky finger to hit the 5th fret on the B string to substitute for the open E. Personally my hands simply don't fit into a B chord and i refused to give up on this piece simply because of that. Thanks again Eezer!

Thank you. For those wanting to play the most accurately know that the two ways demonstrated for the bridge section is not at all accurate as one method involves an incorrect note and both ways leave out several notes that should be struck. There are of course usually various ways to play things and I appreciate the time taken to instruct. The method used on the album recording for the bridge of this song is by playing the D and B strings starting at the 5th fret and descending to 2nd&3rd&the B keeps descending so that the low and high E notes can be struck as well. Thanks again eezerian.

Hey Thank you spiritus and well said on the feedback too man. Yeah there are plenty of places where it's not right. There is a guy on here playing it perfectly too, wish I'd seen his video before posting my lesson but hey, just wanted to show my appreciation for your comment and for advising/correcting. Cheers. @Dorfnite Hey Dirk, thank you. Yes tips on fingerpicking, use your thumb to pick the bass strings (thumb should be alternating between E, A and D strings) and fingers to pick the G, B and E strings on the treble side (one finger per string). I'll see if I can dig out some old right hand finger studies in tabs for you to practice with. Always start slowly (painfully slowly) and build up your speed over time. Good luck with this one. Thanks and regards Eezer

@eezerian hey man 👋 great video, really informative and easy to follow. Love this song and I'm able to learn it cause of you ! I just want to point a possible typo at 02:50, at the beginning of the third measure, you say the note after the pull-off is an open G but you write open B (third note on the measure). And just before you play that open G i hear you go back to that A# on the 4th string. Just wanted to point out that in case there are others who got confused by that part. Thanks again!

Hi, eezerian. You play this piece beautifully. I believe the tablature may not line up with what you're playing in some spots, however, as well as some parts being slightly incorrect. Around the 2:40 mark, the tablature says to play up on the B string, however, I believe you only play one note on that string in the video (a "D", fret #3) before playing the rest of that phrase on the G string. I also believe, from listening to the recording, that the final G# augmented chord for that section is approached from an "A" note in the bass (I go from E string fret#5 to fret#4). Happy playing!

Hey, thank you for your comments. Yes there are some inaccuracies with the tabs and indeed with the choice of notes. I watched another guy (can’t remember who) but his cover version sounded absolutely perfect. Wish I’d seen that before posting tbh it would have made my lesson way more accurate. Thanks again and happy playing to you too.. Eezer

Another great lesson, Eezer, nice! :) I wonder, do you maybe have some tips on the fingerpicking? Since especially my ringfinger and little finger have a hard time keeping up with the rest =P Or is it just a matter of practice makes perfect?

Hey, I want to say thank for the great vids. I learned Benighted from your vids. It was my first attempt at fingerpicking and I haven't looked back. I've a question about the part in the beginning after the slide from 2/5 where you come back down on the A string 3-2-0 then open E (hope that makes sense). Anyways, I learned this years ago with a pick and now I'm finding it really hard to use only my thumb for this part so I use my index on the open A and then my thumb for E Is this acceptable?

I've just been getting in to Opeth and I absolutely love the acoustic and melodic side of their music. But I don't have any past experience of finger picking, I've never had to do it in any other previous songs I've learnt on guitar. But I really wanna be able to play this but it looks rather advanced for me on the finger picking front.. Any advice to where I shall start to get better at fingerpicking??

Hi! Great lesson. I have a lot of trouble with the transition at 1:23 however, I seem to lose my grip on the neck when I try to reposition my fingers. Same problem at that part 3:07. Do you have any tips?
@luketanner63734 жыл бұрын
one thing that helped me was to do the pull off before the transition using my 3rd and 4th fingers. That way my first finger is ready to finger the first note of that F chord. Another thing that helped me was to get my fingers to the correct frets only as I need to, i.e. my hand isn't fully in the F position when I play the first note of the chord. That way I'm only placing one finger at a time, as opposed to letting go of the neck in order to jump straight into the F position.
@ianlynch83504 жыл бұрын
Hey irohen, thank you for stopping by and checking out my lessons. Yeah that F chord at that transition can be tricky. But have a look at how you play it first. If you're losing your grip then the neck width sounds to me like it might be too wide?? / I don't know, I would need to see you play it. The chord itself needs to be shaped into position before landing on the board. Try practicing without actually strumming/picking the chord, but rather building the chord shape above the strings and coming down in one motion. relaxed but firm. You may also have some unwanted tension in your hand maybe?? Your thumb position on the back of the next needs to be central too. Try a few different angles for your thumb, and also it could be the way you're holding it , angle etc. Well, either way, great song choice and I hope it's coming along for you. All the very best and thanks again. Eezer

4:25 , in the tab the first 2 - 2 doesn't seem to correspond, please help I'm trying to find out just by looking at your hand but it's impossible. Thank you guitar god.
@eezerian7 жыл бұрын
Hey Javi, yeah you are right. For starters the chord before it gets to the B chord should be an A sus2 (0 - 2 - 2 - 0) but I missed the open B string (sorry) and the 4.25 is left over from the repeat of this. Well spotted mate, and as I've said many times, we're all still learning.Thanks for watching my videos and making the necessary changes.Eezer

not sure but there's something wrong with tabs... the second pull off, 3-2, at about 01:40 is not correct, shouldn't it be pinky on the b string third fret then pull off on the way back?
