In all seriousness.....I'd lay on a bed of nails covered in hot sauce to have the opportunity to sit across from these guys during a performance like this. Absolutely beautiful.
@Deathshuck10 жыл бұрын
Bed of nails I can handle, but hot sauce? Now you've gone too far!
@flakedwheelie10 жыл бұрын
Depends on the sauce, anything milder than 500k SHU would be cheating unless you had some cuts here and there.

I was in the third row, really close to Fredrick, he was tearing up in this song, I saw him wipe off his eyes at one point. It was really haunting to see someone so into their music, Opeth is such a great band. Thanks for uploading this stellar performance.

I think the song was written about someones relative dying so he probably remembers the person he lost or something

guys, from all the comments in here, it seems we all would love an acoustic interpretation of all of opeth's all songs. I know I would. Plus they are in a more "softer" realm right now. Maybe name the album "memoirs of opeth"

Listening to this again now, I notice the outro with Fredrik's solo is reminiscent of Porcupine Tree's Dark Matter.

They got allot of PT influence in this album, as well as other bands from the early 70's prog era, which is what PT were influenced by. Not gonna mention band names, but for all wondering were they got the sound from... its the golden prog rock era that started in Britain. It's already been done, but these guys do a very nice take on it none the less. Its very European influenced as-well in the choice of modes, scales and arrangement styles.
@tryank1210 жыл бұрын
John peoplefox It would be hard not be influenced by PT when Steven Wilson produced the record. The collective genius of Steven and Mikael made for a fantastic record.
@johnpeoplefox10 жыл бұрын
Tyson Kopiejka A bit of a stupid thing to say considering their first album that ever got produced by Steven Wilson(black water park), sounded absolutely nothing like anything PT has ever done before! Bands don't decide what to do on an album after hearing who is going to produce it, so it had nothing to do with Steve wanting to work with them. If it did it would kind of be ass kissing, wouldn't you agree? All i meant by that previous comment is that they were influenced by PT in choosing to do a 70's prog take in a modern way! Its clearly different from PT just influenced by very similar bands that made PT create the sounds they have over many, many albums. I wish bands were innovative enough to influence other modern day ones in this era, but these days its not possible. To much unique stuff has already been done, now people can only fuse different recipe's of the same ingredients. Once you listen to enough quality music that came after the Beatles... you will know what i mean.
@tryank1210 жыл бұрын
The WHITE WOLFF Steven also produced the deliverance and damnation records which this song is featured on. The way Opeth write has more in common with prog rock, than death metal. That is evident with the album Heritage. So Steven was a perfect fit for them and Mikael feed off his ideas and they made a great record.
@johnpeoplefox10 жыл бұрын
Tyson Kopiejka I agree with the first statement but i don't see why a band that's already famous and has some shred of decency would ever be short of ideas enough to feed of Steven Wilson's... As a fan of both bands i don't see any connection between the two bands, except the heritage they both pay respect to.

In the corner beside my window Hangs a lonely photograph There is no reason I'd never notice a memory that could hold me back There is a wound that's always bleeding There is a road I'm always walking And I know you'll never return to this place Gone through days without talking There is a comfort in silence So used to losing all ambition And struggling to maintain what's left There is a wound that's always bleeding There is a road I'm always walking And I know you'll never return to this place Once undone, there's only smoke Burning in my eyes to blind To cover up what really happened And force the darkness onto me There is a wound that's always bleeding There is a road I'm always walking And I know you'll never return to this place
