I heard a lot of the classic riffs and runs in this lesson. Made me want to grab my guitar and jam. Thanks for this Marty!

Thank you Marty for a great lesson. Funny, but I was just, a couple of hours ago, playing with a long backing track, and then finally understood how the different shapes of the minor pentatonic scale are linked to the modes. As you just showed, the first one to the minor. Then the second to the major, the third to the dorian, the fourth to the phrygian. I guess the fifth would fit the mixolydian, but I didn’t get that far. Nice when the coin drops down while playing 😊

I learned all this when I was a teenager listening to Gary Rossington but I never knew the fundamentals of what I was playing, I just played by ear. I always called that position the Gary Rossington box lol

Great lesson video! Every time you hit the Am chord, it sounded like That Smell by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That might be a good idea for a follow up lesson video. :)

Love your content and cool vibe. I’m on a plateau with my playing and need to get over it and to another level. I couldn’t get there with the teacher I had. How do you find that person that can push you without randomly running through teachers. Any advice or way to save time finding that person. Anything you can offer is helpful. Cheers!

Check some local music stores and look at bios of teachers that fit your checklist for what you want to learn and styles you like. I know Guitar Center has a huge lesson program if you are near one and have teacher bios online if you check out the lessons section, it brings you to the area you live in when you enter the info. Also... if you have any guitar buddies or know players who are good. Ask them if they know of a solid teacher. Or straight up ask one of the great players you know if they teach. The music community usually is strong in that regard.

@ Thanks for the quick reply. I know it will be a matter of luck or karma to find the right person. I have guitar friends I jam with, but they aren’t teachers and we are all in the same spot. I’ll dig deeper on what you advised checking my local shops and there is a nearby Guitar Center I don’t frequent much. It’s hard because not all the best players are out there seeking students. I won’t give up.

Marty what are you using to capture your amp sound for the vid? Are you mic’ing an amp and then into an interface? How is your lapel mic not picking up the amp noise? Thanks brother

I use a fractal ax8 for my videos and keep my room volume low through my studio monitors. I record it in pro tools and sync it to video later.

@ oh ok! I just started a channel and I’m trying to use what I have so I don’t have to go buy anything until it’s necessary. Thanks for the reply. Love your stuff!
