Hey Levi, great job explaining this feature ! There's one thing I should correct though regarding the import/export of sync points and tempo automations from the score to the audio track and vice versa, which is that while enabled, the audio track will actually always control the tempo of the playback despite the presence of tempo automations on the score. Which means, once you set up a bunch of sync points, you actually don't have to export them to the score as tempo automations (and then hide them all) to get a synced playback ! The "Create Sync Points from Score Tempos" entry allows you to import the already existing automations from your score into the audio track as a starting point for synching to be further adjusted (so that you also have the option to start the synching process from scratch). The "Create Score Tempos from Sync Points" can be useful when having an audio file that was played with a metronome and will only need a few sync points which will represent actual tempo changes that need to be indicated on your score rather than fluctuations due to interpretation or to a live setting. The "half way" solution is to transform sync points individually by right clicking on them -> "Transform to Score Tempo Automation". Lastly, you can temporarily chose to disable the audio track by using the switch on the top left of the window which will mute the audio file and give back the control of the tempo to the score. Happy syncing !

Hey man, this is a game changer. I haven't used GP since 6 and this is fantastic enough that I took the steal of an upgrade for 24 bucks. Like you, I still think I'm going to do most of my work in Transcribe, but I'll switch over and do the notation in GP. So I won't be doing my actual transcribing in GP yet. But this is awesome for practicing the parts afterwards. Still easier to really hone in on stuff in Transcribe..so that's where the dirty work will be. Plus, I'm a bass player and I tried some of those old records where the bass is hard to pick out and Transcribe's bass select filter still sounds a lot more clear to me than what GP8 has for this purpose. Thanks for sharing.

Just two months ago I purchased 7.6 and now we are at version 8. Well at least the upgrade was not expensive and the backing track function is really great. I just took another approach to sync it up. Moved the track to the perfect start point and then adjusted the beats per minute so everything matches perfectly up. Guess my guitar teacher was slightly off. After syncing the song went up from 180 bpm to 192 bpm.

Just wondering Levi, if you have noticed an annoying "feature" while editing sync points on repeated sections of songs (songs that might repeat a verse with alternative endings.... or the use of D.S. to bring a song back to the beginning for a while before sending it to the end. The first problem I see is when the repeated section begins to play and I hit the space bar to freeze playback so I can edit the sync points there. (Yes, the audio file being a "human performance" has slight lovely variations in timing vs. the first time it was played.) The problem arises when I hit the space bar to pause the song there.... GP8 will not freeze there, but will (annoyingly) throw the score back to the start of the section as it was played "the first time through". I did discover a very cumbersome work abound by clicking the little "speaker icon" along the top of the audio file... as the song is playing through the section where I want to edit sync points. A double click will make that measure repeat. In any case, by using that little speaker tool, you can then hit the space bar and playback will stop but you will not be thrown back to the original iteration of the repeated phrase. Likewise, if you want to do some editing slightly before or after that point (to the sync points), you can use that little "speaker tool" and click either far left or far right on the sync point bar. The nice people at Arobas (GP) need to add some little tool for jumping to repeated measures directly instead of making the users play "Whack a mole" trying to get playback to end on the right spot for editing.

I'm eager to dive into this new audio feature. Often I will buy the tab from the arranger for a solo (finger style) guitar piece, then want to "play along" with an actual audio file the arranger has published on youTube. The problem (as you might guess) is that the artist/arranger rarely plays to a steady beat, this the tempo of his/her playing never exactly matches the tab arrangement in GP8. Before this new GP8 version, I would try to compensate for this by manually making tempo adjustments to the GP8 tab file. You might guess this is "iffy", however, as my tempo change guesses are just that. So I'm really hoping this new import audio feature will give me the tool I need to finally produce perfectly synced audio and GP8 tracks. One question to go along with that. Let's assume I did indeed perfectly sync the audio and the Tab tracks... Does that tempo information (a "tempo map") then automatically get exported when I export a midi file to my DAW (such as Studio One)? If that indeed does work, then it would be a snap to sync the audio track within Studio One with the original video file. (Studio One can sync video... although it is a little crude in how it works... but at least it can be done.)

I think you can. First, adjust the tempo sync points on the audio track pane. Then, click the cog on the audio track panel, and click ""create score tempo automation from sync points". those aren't guitar pro files. The visual is, but the audio is recorded by rockschool. Guitar pro is notation software for people who don't actually use notation (weird way to describe it I know), but you're not really looking for that, you're looking for karaoke or a program that can make karaoke tracks (you mention ripX, that's great). Downloading from ultimate guitar won't help because you're still dealing in midi audio... it's just midi made by someone for free who (more than likely) isn't skilled enough to make a product for $$$... so those files will be inaccurate. When I was working for MySongbook, they were meticulous in checking accuracy.
