This is my favourite series. I live in country vic and don't get to the city very often so these are a great resource. I check GSS before visiting Melbourne having a preview and knowing what to expect is great and helps with knowing if a store is worth a visit. Thanks for the effort and keep up the good work.

From Leo: I have owned an SX tele for about 5 years. Beefy neck. I did not need to do any fret work to the neck. The tuners felt rough, even though they did the job. That guitar now wears better tuners, controls and Seymour Hot Rails pickups. It is a very solid player. Even my friends who are brand snobs admit that it is a great playing and sounding guitar.

Great Guitar Search Saturday video, Shane, as always you do a great job. Covering the SX range of guitars was interesting. I have a black SX strat type guitar that I picked up some time ago and haven't done much with but now will revisit it and see what it can do rather than look at selling it.

I just bought a used SX Tele (the RH version of the one you tried Shane VGT ) and can vouch for them being great value as well as great instruments. The neck on mine is a little chunkier than my 91 US standard Strat but not overly thick. I Bought mine for a project and am in the process of adding a Bigsby style trem and some Filtertron pickups just for fun. That guitar would make a great platform for a Video series on wiring mods etc.

That is a really cool guitar shop! Wish I knew of somewhere like that over here in the UK - they're either big chains, small, less well-stocked places, or somewhere like the famous Anderton's (which tends to be too busy to actually try anything easily most days!)... That accessory wall alone would make me travel quite a distance - but not as far as Oz! ;-).

Man love the organized clutter of small stores like these, so much to look at, you always seem to find something cool in a store like these. It is a shame mom and pop music shops like these are disappearing, gotta do the G.S.S. more often, one of my personal favorites! buy the S.X. and do the mods will make great content!

Another great episode of Guitar Search Saturday!!!😄😄😎😎 It is a shame that the Squier series is so expensive in Australia even though these guitars are made in China and Indonesia which isn’t that far compared to North America. Nevertheless, it’s awesome that there is gear at affordable prices from other manufacturers and the quality is improving. This shop is jammed packed with everything you need, even for us Southpaws!!! When I do get to take a vacation to Melbourne, you’re definitely going to have to make this a stop!!! Thanks Shane for another excellent episode!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🏽🤙🏾🤘🏽

Shane, GET THAT SX TELE, You won’t regret it, I own 4 SX GUITARS (two strats, and two teles) and they are AWESOME, and they hold up their own with anything in the Squier classic vibe series, you might even choose not to change out the stock pickups, which sound great and punchy and are extremely dynamic...get back there and get that Thang!

I've got one of the older VC50's, don't use it that much these days but if you want a nice Beatle'y sound it's there - I actually find it very bright...and loud from volume on 1 and then from 3 on-ward's only saturates more. And I've never had to change the tubes! I'd also vouch for the SX guitars - I've got their thinline Tele and it's the only chinese guitar I've never felt the need to changed the pickups on - they're great. Other than fixing a couple of bad solder joints on the switch and them being a bit rough and stripping the pickguard screws , it's one of my favourite guitars. And I never had to do a setup on it either! Mine has a standard tele headstock, but I don't mind their new shape. Can't beat them for the price. Love the GSS video Shane - keep 'em up.

That Blue Strauss amp at 3:50 looks EXACTLY like the Subzero brand of tube amps sold out of the UK through Gear4Music. I know for sure G4M isn't making their own stuff, so this is probably a "White Label" thing. There is a Laney head that matches stitch for stitch, including the plastic "tweed-ish" grill cloth of this Strauss and the subzeros. This really makes me wonder if the origin of all these amps is Strauss. Gear4Music.com and Laney are both UK and of course Australia is formerly of UK. Or maybe all 3 are simply white label products from China or Indonesia.

The SX looks really nice and from the demo you did in this video it sounds nice as well. I think the SX would make a cool project guitar for trying out pickups and such. Shane I watched a video from a music store over here, that was putting the SX Teles and Strats up against a wide variety of competitors including the Squier CV. The SX outscored everything there except the CV. It tied with the CV. But we're talking about a guitar that costs just under 70 euros up against the CV which is almost 400euros. I would take the chance, and get a real quality set up done on them. As long as the platform (the wood and the connection between the neck and body) is solid and straight, and the frets are put in the proper locations for the scale length, the only thing that can make it a polished turd is the tuners. And from what I remember, they were 14:1 in the SX, which is actually really good on a budget guitar. I've seen budget guitars with as low as 8:1. Those really are polished turds.

See reply to Aaron earlier above....it's a bummer being a retailer in a country who's minimum wage is $18.29 per hour with both Worksafe Insurance and Superannuation added on top, making the payment per hour for an employer just on $25 each per employee! Let alone free medical care. I believe the US minimum wage is less than $8 an hour and you have no employer paid Superannuation, free healthcare or work injury insurance? In fact, is it correct that you don't even get 4 weeks fully paid holiday leave each year. Does that make it a little more sensible? ;-)

Compare apples with apples , my friend. Keep in mind that the minimum wage in Australia is triple that of the USA, 1.8 MILLION dollars buys you a 1950's 3 bedroom home in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, and something like a Ford Mustang GTV8 basic costs $75,000 here. Ohh....and the Australia Dollar is only worth (currently) 74cents USD. Now....does THAT make it clearer? ;-)

It's a shame they only stocked budget guitars... I see a lot of those types of shops in my travels as well and it's a pain when you're looking for some nice gems or rare guitars. That being said, I own two lefty SX guitars... one called an STG Vintage strat which I modified quite a bit, and I also own one of those baby-poo brown teles. The tele was actually pretty great, but I stripped it down for modding and haven't finished it yet. Never liked the colour, so I stripped the paint (which is more like a plastic wrap and is hard as hell to remove without damaging the body). The STG vintage strat I mentioned purchasing and modding sounds really sweet. The only thing I could bag about it is the tuners are just rubbish, as is the trem system. The pickups are alright, although I believe the cheap wiring lets it down. I ended up getting Tonrider Surfaris installed with dimarzio internals which turned a pretty good guitar into a really fun little strat. I did a little play with it here if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGTKipqQq6ubbNk Also... If you haven't already, take the chance to check out the Music Swop Shop. I bought my lefty Epiphone SG there about 3 years ago and when I was there they had about 10 or 11 really nice lefties. All second-hand... but a really nice store and the folks running it are good helpful people. Thanks for taking the time Shane!

Hope Is Here those plastic wrap type finishes can be removed easily. Start at the strap mount hole at the butt, use a small rag dampend with acetone , rest the body on the rag for up to 15 mins, checking every 5 mins. When it softens, use a bike air pump with a needle cut on an angle like a syringe. Get under the wrap with the air and squirt acetone in between. I've done it 3 times now, it works a treat!!!

*@intheblues, @Shane,* Get that SX Tele! You: "This was an absolute pleasure to play...the tuning stability was good...just playing this reminded me a while lot of my '52 reissue in terms of feel. It felt absolutely great to play." IMHO, for the price of that SX, you'd be nuts not to buy it. You could chase trying to find another guitar that plays as well as that one, *regardless of price* , but you may never find it. Why hold off now that you've found it? Especially for a guitar so affordable as that one. That guitar would make the absolute perfect testbed guitar. It looks good, it plays just how you like it and the price is right. Sometimes the answer is as simple as it being right in front of you. You should should pick it up ASAP. You instantly bonded with it, which is telling you something. You may never find another affordable guitar that looks and plays like that again. Get it before it's gone! Cheers from Canada. :)
