Shane, the problem with the Peavey Rage on the video might be quite easy to fix. The missing handle is attached by two screws that also help secure in place the amp's head. Therefore, if you install a handle, you also help fasten the head properly. Obviously, you would like to make sure the controls haven't suffered any damage from being loose for a while. Peavey Rage amps are great bedroom amps. Bandit's little brother

After getting a Peavey Red Stripe Bandit and being very impressed with it, I later picked up a Peavey Rage amp in mint condition from a Cash Converter's for $99, its a great little amp for around the house. My wife however now gets very annoyed with me as I've started venturing out of my music room & proceeded to turn every room around the house that takes my fancy into a mobile guitar retreat. As the Rage is so portable I can plop it next to a lounge chair and plink away happily even when watching TV. Maybe you should do a vid on frustrated partners of home based guitar playing wannabees, I reckon some of the stories would be hilarious entertainment.

Park amps are made by Marshall. The first ones were made in 1965 and were essentially the same Marshall models with very minor internal and external changes. The Park name was essentially created because of the distribution contract Marshall had with Rose--Morris at the time that prevented them from selling their amps through other distributors, so they created the "Park" name (as well as NARB, Kitchen/Marshall, Big M, and CMI) to skirt the contract rules so they could sell more even amps to more distributors. For the most part, they were basically the same plexi and metal panel Marshalls, but with a Park logo on them. However, they are said to sound a bit "hotter", which is seen by some as more desirable, and since they are generally fairly rare they usually command a higher price than its Marshall counterpart of the same era. The Park name lasted on and off until about 1982, a little while after the Rose-Morris distribution contract ended (in 1981). Then in the late 80's and 90's the Park name was revived again as an entry level brand of solid state guitar amps. The amp you saw in the shop is one of these. They only lasted for a little while, but some of them can sound cool when overdriven. I hope this helps. Cheers. :)

Park amplifiers were originally launched by Marshall in the UK in the 60's. That association ended some time ago, but you do occasionally come across an original Park valve amp on eBay. They are rare and command a premium price.

Chris silver hands You are right ,In the late 60's there was a music store who Jim Marshall did a deal with to supply amps without the Marshall branding. They were exactly the same internally as the equivalent Marshall & I believe Park was the maiden name of someone's wife .. The amp in the shop was made in the far east & distributed in the UK by Marshall . The mid -90's ad campaign called it "Son of Marshall"

I had begun to drink my protein shake after a hard workout and relax to watch this video when at 0:15 seconds I about blew out my swallow having to laugh so hard at your comment. After regrouping myself, I then get rocked into laughter at 1:25 into the video with the "acoustic binding" comment! I decided so as not to slop all over myself trying to enjoy the shake to put it down until I finished the video (glad I did). Shane did/does the shop owner know you are video taping and posting this? This is a classic, and I hope you continue sharing these great videos and information with us, Cheers mate!

Actually, here in the US, the SX guitars we can get from Rondo Music, are fantastic!! I have three of them, and they are all among my favorite playing guitars. Those seen in the video I admit, did look extremely entry level, though... Thanks for your wonderful videos, Shane.... Keep on Rockin'

I'm from the US and support your take on the SX line. They're certainly no masterpiece, but nothing in that price range is close in quality. My SX tele weighs as much as my USA Strat. I'm old school, so when I pick up any Squier it feels cheap regardless of the price tag. They're too light weight. Just my two cents. Thanks.

Thanks hohlamazoo, I actually had to go through a couple of different SX models before I found a real good one (one of the pitfalls of ordering online). But I really love their necks and they do feel solid. I also Love their P-90 equipped guitars... Thanks!

@hohlamazoo 7 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the p90 range, but heard good things. I have a collection of guitars ranging from gretsch to Gibson to epiphone and the hanging SX is right in there. If nothing else you can buy them for a modding platform. It's a lot cheaper than buying a body an neck elsewhere. And they're already finished! Thanks.
@gregdoerr1028
@gregdoerr1028 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can't really think of a better modding platform than the SX's, and maybe some of the Squier's...that's the thing, that you can tweak these fine guitars down to exactly (or near exactly) what you want... It's just amazing to me how cheap some of these guitars are, when I started playing in the mid 90's, the cheap guitars were actually cheap, as in pretty horrible, but today, with worldwide competition and with higher standards of quality control (for the most part) "the guitar world is our oyster" Thanks! Take care!

There are are some who hate on those amps though very unfairly. They were around through the 80's but not sure how far into the 90's they were available.

Park amps were originally simply rebadged Marshall amps dating back to the 60s and 70s. Jim Marshall couldn't sell his Marshall brand to his friends shop due to a distribution deal. He created Park so his friend could sell them. the old ones are all Marshall inside like the super lead etc. Aome are very valuable and very rare.

Great Video Shane. It is possible to get ripped off really badly by these sort of shops, so this video gets a thumbs up from me! My local Cash Convertors in UK is very similar mixed bag of tricks. Most of the music gear is complete rubish, but there are a few great bargins IF (and only if) you know what to look for. For this reason I advise my beginner students to avoid these places like the plague (and buy from a good music store instead) until they are more educated in guitar/music gear. By the way, Park amps were actually a budget range of unbranded Marshall practice amps in the early/mid 1990's. I almost bought one when I was as a beginner, but ended up saving up for a valvestate instead. Aparently Jim Marshall also used the "Park" brand for experiments he built in the 1960's and 1970's (proper tube amps) that are quite rare and worth some money now.

I feel inclined to say maybe just because you haven't heard of it you shouldn't snub it. Park amps have a history and were originally made side by side at Marshall to sell to other dealers. That one appears to be one of the early 90's ones when Marshall wanted solid state with out the name Marshall on it.

These shops are primarily a junk shop. When they first came about they had some good audio and a few good finds of instruments and gear. Nowdays they seem to be the place of choice for meth heads needing to get a few dollars quickly. They specialise in short term payday to payday loans with high interest rates. In saying that, you do still come across the odd diamand at a reasonable price.

I've all but stopped going to pawn shops. Maybe back in the day you could find a deal but now all they have in is junk. People sale higher end stuff on e bay or Reverb and the stuff the pawn shops end up with is top dollar. They want new prices on used stuff. Not to say a guy might need to pay his rent and have to pawn something nice (which I've had to do.) but it doesn't last long and again top dollar. like 2/3 to 3/4 what they payed for it. I've come to hate pawn shops. All in all I like this new series.

i guess i just got lucky with the pickups on mine, strange how they would put a beautiful flame maple neck on such a cheap guitar too, maybe mine is an early one or something, the neckplate is blank on mine. I think i did try to shim the neck, but i still couldn't get it right, i may try again next time i change the strings. Im too tight and skint to take it to a tech and i like to try to do any work on my guitars myself.

Even more eclectic Shane. THAT'S the 'shopping' centre on the cnr of White St. and Nepean Hwy yeah? A few points. The SX guitars ARE good for what you pay for. The $199 ST59/62 Strat copy is a VERY decent instrument. I have sold quite a few over the years, and they haven't disapointed. 1 of our regs Ben played one and stated to play it was as nice as his USA Strat. Not 100%, but there was NOT an $1800 difference. Maybe an $6-800 difference in quality. IF you check some of the vids on the Alabenlo Music channel, I have a clip of Ben playing an ST62, and it's had a lot of views. kzbin.info/www/bejne/npm6ZWuogdqMobc As to the DXP drum kits, we sell those as well, they are a budget, entry level kit. They are ok, not great, but certainly ok to learn on. Hey DON'T knock the Gorilla amp! They are the PINNACLE of Solid state guitar tone! Rare jewels in a sea of musical cubic zirconia! HAD to LOL @ the Livingstone chorus pedal!! ARE they for REAL? $25 used? They are sold at Aldi, NEW for $20!!! Da FUQ?? :o/ Idiots! Seems this CC has morons working there who have no clue as to the value of the musical equipment they have there. Charge too much for cheap stuff and not enough for expensive stuff! Nice to see that Bandit, and also that Rage! I had a PV Rage 158 like that. GREAT amp but the speaker was rubbish! That Blackstar was an ID Core modelling amp, actually VERY good. That Ashton head, you brushed past it too quick, but I think it was a SS one. The Valve powered Ashtons, ie the Bluetongue combo or head, were actually a VERY good sounding amp. No idea how reliable, but the few I heard, WERE very nice! Great, sparkly clean channel, with a Marshally lead channel! AS to that little amp at the end, hahahaha SEE what I meant about charging too much for cheap stuff? NO clue. That amp prob should have been no more than $20-30 max! I liked this GSS vid even BETTER than the 1st! KEEP it up dude!

I disagree with SX strats being junk, they more than likely need a good setup and make really good players/backup guitar. If you enjoy modifying like myself they can be made to sound as good as a usa fender with a pickup change and a few other cheap mods. Obviously the hardware, timber and electronics do not compare to a usa fender but for $99 AU i think would be worth checking out , IMO when stock the they are a lot better than a lower end Squier

The Samick GB guitars are okay. There's a lot of cheap junk guitars by Samick - or I should say some of the old and wrecked ones you find at stores like this. The GB guitars are probably their best guitars from what I remember about them. :-)
@reggietito3261
@reggietito3261 7 жыл бұрын
intheblues yea the greg bennetts are decent. their older stuff is good too. I'll agree they have made some crap, still do. but trust me samick built guitars for fender, Epiphone, and a bunch of other well know brands. its not public knowledge exactly how many, but it was a lot. for a long time they were the #1 producer of stringed instruments in the world. their own brand was just as good. there was controversy with the plant because some brands were demanding a lot more money for essentially a rebranded guitar. Epiphone actually moved their production to China completely after that, to their own plant to justify their inflated prices so nobody could complain that it was the same as one that cost half the price. as with most import guitars you may want to change your pickups to taste

A couple of months ago I went to a local hock shop hoping to find a cheap 'camping' guitar. Came home with a Greg Bennett L.P. copy for $120. Neck is great, 'buckers are ok through a pignose. Couldn't be happier. Mine is their most lowly model. Bolt on neck. 1 vol, 1 tone. Their better models with fixed neck and S.D. designed pup's are prob real bargains.

If you think those places have the worst gear you've seen is because you haven't been in my town. Musicians are doomed here. If you go to a "cash converter" you'll only find rusted cymbals, rusted trumpets, cheap cheap ugly guitars with rusted strings and maybe two or three boss pedals. But if you go to a music shop it doesn't get better: overpriced cheap gear, or overpriced good quality gear. Let's put it this way: a Fender MIM Strat costs like $500 usd anywhere else in the country... Except here! If Fender says the maximum price for it is $600usd then you can get it here for the reasonable price of $650 or even $700. I remember the time I was looking for a 12AX7 valve and all I could find was a dealer and they had to ask for a shipment. But they warned me first. According to the good folks at that music shop "it's not cheap because they're old, and fragile, and there are not too many companies making valves nowadays" so, how much was that single valve? $80usd! See?!

These videos are great, but the camera is just awkward, way too zoomed in for the walking shots, cant get a good full view of the guitars

DaBeachmasta10 please remember I'm not exactly walking through the shops with my regular camera. It's incognito filming and it's not easy but it becoming better each episode 😊👍

My SX Vintage Series Tele is a great axe, significantly better than most Squiers. The lowest end SX's can be crap, but the same goes with any brand.
