Prince is saying "body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit". It's a lyric in the song. The song is All The Critics Love U in New York, from the 1999 album. It's Rhonda Smith on bass. I love how touched and moved you are by Prince's music. He sure embodied JOY in his music.

Dan, I was going to say the same thing, but after listening to it dozens of times, I kinda hear "hip" not hit. I could of course be very wrong.

You said it. He was The One. Truly unique. It sounds hyperbolic but... In a universe 5 billion years old, we got to live during the lifetime of Prince Rogers Nelson. A man who dedicated his entire life to the pursuit of his art. Feeling sad about his absence is normal. Celebrating his output is more important though. Thank you for uploading this. 💜

This is one of my all time fave Prince live tracks. When friends ask me why I'm so obsessed with Prince this is Exhibit A. It shows his musicianship, his song writing ability, his skill as an arranger (it's totally reworked from the album and incorporates three other tracks in it), his showmanship, his ability as a band leader, and his sense of humour and joy. Then he scats and solos at the same time and it's astounding. It's rock and it's funk and it's jazz. If someone doesn't get it after this, they never will. The line he's singing is "Body don't wanna quit, gotta get another HIT". Still pretty prophetic, as his body had quit which lead to his reliance on painkillers which lead to addiction which lead to.... Band is Renato Neto and Morris Hayes on keys, Rhonda Smith on bass and the late great John Blackwell on drums.

Another great reaction Brian! I love this song and this performance! I always find the lyrics that you pointed out, "Body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit." to be oddly representative of what is "said" to have happened to him. I say it that way because there is still much speculation and mystery regarding that situation among Prince fans. He absolutely kills it in this performance and his energy is off the charts! I can't wait to see your reaction to "The Everlasting Now" on Jay Leno! I absolutely love that song, the message, and his performance on Jay Leno! Can't wait to see what you put out next!!!

A documentary about Prince said his hip problems came about from all his years performing in high heels (he didn't like being short). I believe he also missed surgical appointments to correct his problems and took the pain pill path instead. Tragic all around. He's greatly missed.

Prince had the hip surgery when they finally released the medical report, the autopsy I mean they disclosed just to much information to the public; when they found him he had a incision on his hip . Morris Day allegedly said Prince had the surgery. I read any pertaining to his investigation. Listen to detective interviews with his inner circle and employees, I even watched the police on you tube get the call to his residence and them flying thru traffic only taking 3min he was already gone. So much more information the Chanhassen police should have not released. Anything you want to really know about Prince you can download documents. If you curious like me. Don't pay any attention to conspiracy theories. Just the official final and medical report. I love and miss him 🕊 🕊

""Body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit." Think he's talking about NY celebrity/nightlife back in '83 when 1999 dropped. I believe he was calling out the fake drug/party culture, not painkillers, which took him down later in life. By all/most accounts Prince was very much drug-free in his mid-20s. He didn't start taking Rx painkillers until much later--and not for the reasons laid out in this track. Love how he incorporates/calls out other songs, Housequake and Black Sweat... into the performance even if the track isn't on the set list!
